Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Our 2008 Fluxus is a double white beer brewed with spices and fresh grated ginger. A double white beer calls for twice the amount of malted and raw wheat, which casts an elegant cloudiness over this mango-colored beer. The aroma boasts of herbal and minty notes, as well as hints of clove and candied ginger. Fluxus offers a perfectly balanced flavor with a warm, clean finish and a lingering spiciness.

On-tap at The Pit, shouldn't I be drinking Irish beers today? Served in an Allagash tulip glass a nice crisp straw yellow with a decent off-white head that leaves decent lacing. Aroma is sweet malts, spice, slight yeast and a touch of rye. The taste is crisp sweet malts with slight citrus hops along with spice and a touch of alcohol. The beer is medium bodied with the alcohol fairly well hidden. This one is even more tastey on draft than from the bottle.

Appearance – A clear golden color. A light head and medium lacing.

Smell – Coriander, heavy spice, and a wonderfully sweet lemon scent.

Taste – Very spicy for a witbier, coriander, and a sweet wheat taste.

Mouthfeel – Medium body, good carbonation, and I never would have guessed 8.7% abv (I thought it was closer to 6%).

Drinkability – An exceptional witbier; one of my favorite.

Bottle shared by Brad - thanks!

Pours a hazy golden-yellow color with a half-finger white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving light lacing.

Smells of a variety of spices - hints of clove and ginger with what I believe is cardamom - along with sweet malts and sugar-coated orange peel.

Tastes similar to how it smells however the spices aren't quite as intense and it's not as complex. Sweet malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by syrupy orange flavors. Midway through the sip mild amounts of spices, mostly clove and cardamom more so than ginger, enter into things and carry through to a crisp ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a smooth thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is good. I didn't have a problem finishing my glass and could have another.

Overall I have to say that this beer would have tasted better without a year and a half's age on it. The complexity is still there however the flavors seemed watered down. Probably worth drinking now if you still have some laying around.

Tasted a few months ago, reviewing from notes. Hazy-straw-yellow with the typical, beautiful allagash head. Lots of spices and lemon, and odd wit with a strange floral element. Also some banana. I was very excited to try this one but was a bit disappointed, the fluxus series is the black spot on Allagash's outstanding lineup. Perhaps the 2009 version will be a winner.

Pours a hazy golden orange color with a thin foamy off-white head that quickly fades. Not much in the way of lacing.

Spicy floral aroma with some light crisp fruit notes and citrus peel presence.

Crsip golden fruit flavor with a touch of floral hops and subtle spiciness. Orange peel is prominent with other light crisp fruit, mostly apple and pear. Alcohol very well masked and well balanced making it very quaffable. Slightly sweet with a bitter hoppy dry finish.

I tried the 2007 version of this on tap and loved it, so I decided it was time to try the 2008. It pours a hazy gold, with about half a finger of white heading. Interesting nose gives off ginger, perhaps nutmeg, overall a very spicy smelling beer. Same thing goes on in the flavor. Big waves of ginger, coriander, even a little pumpkin flavor. Little in the way of alcohol can be noticed from this brew. Feel on Fluxus is medium, with light carbonation accentuating the spices nicely. Sipping this is very easy, and I would definitely recommend pairing this one with food. A sharp cheddar or curry dish might work out well. I am very satisfied with this beer from Allagash, although rarely am I ever disappointed by them. I would love to taste this side by side with the 2007 batch to see how they compare. Cheers

10/02/08- Purchased at Downeast Beverages in Portland, ME.

Presentation- 750ml bottle, both caged and corked. 2008 Release, poured into my Pilaarbijter glass.

Appearance- Ligher yellow in color approaching white. Very large well over one inch head, a full 1/2 inch remains for the duration of the beer. Lace is patchy, spotty and streaky...just about coats the glass.

Smell- Very sweet scent laden with confectioniers sugar. Some corriander, make that a bucket of corriander, some peppery spices and some light lemon notes. A bit too sweet to be perfect.

Taste- Talk about the smell telling the story. Too much sugary notes, but besides that all the spices come into play and taste is very good.

Mouthfeel- A touch foamy and upper carbonation level. About the only drawback here.

Drinkability- Wonderful witbier...almost perfection. Not worth the $15 though when Hennepin and Allagash White are around $6 and just as good.

Caged and Corked.

Pours a pale yellow, straw color, slight haze to it, decent head that fades fast into a wispy top, no lacing.

Smell is light sweet malt, some citrus, coriander and other spices.

Taste is quite a kicker, crisp carbonation that dances on the tongue and almost numbs it, sweet malt with spices, slight citrus with yeasty notes.

I looked everywhere and iit was sold out, I thought I might have missed my chance at it. Fortunately, I was able to find some bottles of this at bootleggers, next time I won't be so lazy at getting some of Allagash's limited offerings. While not as good as the first Fluxus, I look forward to the next one.

2008 version, a nice simple looking 750mL bottle, theres a nice pop to the cork, and poured into several small 200mL Allagas glasses.

Poured a lovely yellow/honey color with a billowy head. the lacing was amazing and stuck around at the top of the glass even after i finished. The aroma was of wheat and spice with a mix of fruits and floral. The taste adds a bit of honey, orange, and pepper.

It has a nice medium to full body with prickles of carbonation. Flows very smoothly and leaves you wanting more.

OVERALL, i was worried on dropping $25 (18+tax+bigtip)on this bottle, but it was definately worth it. Im so glad we got this beer. definately enjoyable

Poured a deep yellow, off orange color, pleading, with a nice pillowing white head that was not long lasting. Moderate lace.

Assertive citrus-malt nose with underlying large ginger undertones that really finish the nose. Ginger and spices especially come out in the nose as this beer warms up a bit.

Luscious and well integrated and complex flavors of malt, oranges, ginger and spice with a spicy orange peel bitter hop/grapefruit/pine finish.

This is a very complex, integrated yet elegant drink.

Poured cloudy yellow with a rocky white head that exploded out of the glass. Good lacing. Spicy sweet aroma packed with ginger, cinnamon, coriander, nutmeg, etc. Lemon zest and sweet yeast esters as well. Carbonated, but still heavy in the mouthfeel. The taste is outstanding. Pleasant yeast/banana flavors with orange and lemon zest blended with the lighter malt. Different spice combinations seemed to hit you, similar but never the same. A sweet honey and wheat finish that lingers. And have to agree with JohnGalt1, chamomile is present as well, or at least the spice combination resembles it. Loved it.
