This strong golden ale is marked by passion fruit and herbal notes in the aroma, with suggestions of banana and honey in the complex palate. The Tripel has a remarkably long and smooth finish.

Bought a 22oz bottle of Allagash Tripel Ale at Ellwood Thompson's on 11/4/11 and poured it into an imperial pint glass (no fancy glasses in my apartment yet unfortunately).

A - Two-finger, creamy head that takes a while to dissipate into a one-finger head that stays for a looong time. As I've been writing this (5+ minutes) the head has still not dissolved, which is great. Cloudy and golden-yellow in color with plenty of carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass. This beer looks as delicious as it tastes. 4.0

S - Esters, banana, pear, and hops are all present. Somewhat faint but the ever-resilient head helps reinforce this. 3.5

T - Taste is wonderful. Spicy, fruity flavor with malty, biscuity notes hits the palate first, followed by a slight bitter hoppy aftertaste and the tingle of moderate carbonation. Well-balanced and deceptively sweet for a beer with 9.0% abv. The hops add an odd flavor at the end that is hard to describe, sometimes it's an enjoyable bitterness, and other times it can be a bit sour. I'd consider it a minor thing overall, as this beer still tastes great. 4.0

M - Smooth and creamy with moderate carbonation. Definitely a beer to be sipped and enjoyed slowly. 4.0

O - Overall Allagash's Tripel Ale is a delicious beer that looks good, smells good, tastes good, and feels good. It may not be the cheapest Belgian beer out there but what you pay for is quality. Well-balanced and expertly crafted, I think Allagash has done an excellent job. 4.0

Poured from the carefully handled bomber procured from Allagash directly and then cold/cooler-kept until consumption today.

A: slightly hazy gold with 1 finger head that dissipates to a 4 mm disk, no lacing on this glass.

S: strong belgian breadiness followed by a classic belgian tripel yeast profile. Very on-point sewery, sweet yeast and hop notes. Balanced for the style. Sewery hops do present at very end of nose.

T: Of course the nose and finish are Belgian Triple ale...and the taste follows the yeasty, bready nose. No overtly obnoxious flavors present now.

M: no creamy or filling mouthfeel, and middle road to boot.

O: worth a quaff if you can find it.
