Served in an Allagash coolship tumbler. Nose has a good dose of barrel character and noticeable strawberry. Flavor is too oxidized. Dry and slightly sour. This was an interesting one, but did not quite compare to the Coolship Series, which were much better. Still an interesting beer.

Shared by a Thorpe recently with all the rest, thanks, Not the best one but it still is good / decent.
Not much strawberry left in this one. It is amber and has a thin white head, small bubbles.
Aroma is mostly oak, mild sour / tart.
Beer is light in body, dry on the finish, a little fruit lingers but it is mostly gone. It is a decent beer but not a repeat for me.

Shared by Thorpe429 alongside several other Allagash sour/wild ales. Thank you very much, Mike!
The beer is light brown with subtle highlights of crimson and pink. The aroma brings a grandiose scent of strawberries soaked in alcohol. Subtle notes of oak. While the beer brings some potent flavor, the swetness of the alcohol and strawberries, a naturally sweet fruit, together is a bit overbearing. Medium bodied with moderately light carbonation. Alcohol presence is bold throughout. Mostly sweet with a touch of tartness. Overall, this was OK.

On-tap at Max's Allagash Event
Beer pours a fairly nondescript reddish brown with a fluffy white head. Smells largely of lacto-sour and oak with a hint of strawberries. The flavor is interesting and not quite what I had expected. It's sweeter than I had anticipated, but also has a good bit of sour in there. There's some oak and strawberries as well. It's fairly full-bodied with decent carbonation. Overall, this is a solid beer from Allagash, but not my favorite sour out there. It's perhaps a little too sweet, but I guess that's what happens when you take a big quad and then add strawberries.

Caramel body; off white head that reduces quickly
Malty mollasses and dark fruit aroma. Strange strawberries and cream aroma. When the beer is agitate a strong plastic/bandaid aroma become really offensive.
Light malty flavor. Little bit of sweetness but the mouthfeel is light as well. Strong pithy bitterness that is consistent with a lot of Allagash wilds. Charred oak and vanilla. Strawberry finish with a lingering funky bitterness. Very unpleasant drying sensation and plastic. This beer should've never been released. It's just a strange mix of flavors and bad off-flavors. It didn't change much at all since the release, which was a sample I poured down the drain, so I don't believe time will fix this beer.

Very much looking forward to this one. Thanks to tai4ji2x for the trade!
12.7 oz bottle poured into goblet. As far as I know, this was bottled about a year ago. My 120th review.
A: Pours a semi-translucent 3-tone crimson/caramel color. Nothing to look at, really.
S: Brettanomyces & honey up front. Strawberries are omnipresent. Vanilla from the barrels. Smells cloyingly sweet.
T: You can taste the base beer (Allagash Four), however it has been augmented dramatically. The barrel comes through big up front with bourbon and vanilla, followed by a beautiful strawberry-laden sweetness in the center. Very recognizable pediococcus presence brings in a tart, champagne-like finish. Compared to how this smells, the taste is off the charts.
M: Like most of Allagash's sour one-offs, effervescent and highly carbonated; dances on the tongue.
O: At first, I wasn't sure what to think of this beer; it comes off very sweet in the nose. One taste, though, and it's clear that Avancé is worthy of a great deal of praise. Walking through the barrel room at Allagash just last week, I noticed a few barrels of Avancé hanging out in the rafters. Let's hope this comes back at some point.
An exemplary beer that truly shows the merits of barrel-aging.

Been holding onto this one for awhile now, just never found a good time to drink it and I figured, hey, it's Halloween weekend.
Pours an amber color, not much head, what head there is of is a tan-ish light brown and fades real fast leaving no lacing on the glass, bottom half of the bottom is very murky and dark and turns more brownish than the first half which is quite see-through.
Smell has a wonderous woody aroma, not really picking up the strawberries, oaky with hints of sour notes.
Taste is surprisingly more sour and tart than I was expecting considering the source beer is Four, wooden with light touches of vanilla, still not picking up strawberries per se but there is a presence of fruit though subtle, the sour pucker is between moderate to high, carbonation is on point, no indication of strength at all and I would not believe this is over 10%, although the bottom half of the bottle does taste a bit stronger.
Really wish there was more of this, it turned out to be much better than I thought it would be.
