Poured into a snifter. This one pours a clear light ruby red with a small pink foam. Looks great!

Barnyard aroma with nice tart fruit with a sweet middle. Woody on the edge. Sour start to finish on the pallet. Nice raspberry flavor with oak and some bunk on the finish.

The body is light with soft carbonation. Lingering woody flavors here. Overall this one is great. Nice to have some rockin' local sours!

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #57 (October 2011):

Raspberries gone wild! Two-year- old spontaneously fermented beer aged on local raspberries for several months. You need to have had the experience of picking ripe raspberries to understand the language of this beer. Huge complexi- ties found after every sip. Very intense. Simply awesome.

LOOK: Bright rose

SMELL: Raspberry jam, musty, Band-Aids, farmy

TASTE: Fresh, juicy & tart raspberries, grass, dry, lime, mineral, musty cellar, floral, oaky, vinous

I realized I put this under the wrong beer. but here it the correct review

Had at the tap take over Gasharoo at Novare Res. The brewers walked around pouring samples.

Deep red beautiful
The aroma is tart earthy like one would get from smelling a bucket of fresh raspberries

The taste is sublime a mix of carbonation and sweetness in the front. The raspberry comes fresh fresh earthy my wife said its the only raspberry thing that actually tastes like eating a raspberry. Wonderful

Review from notes. Thanks to Jay and Paul for bringing this one down to Evo.

A: Pours a pink/watermelon color with a small light pinkish, foamy head on top. Not much retention at all or lacing.

S: A little musty/barnyard aroma going with some nice raspberry coming out. Very sweet and tart with a little of the oak coming through as well.

T: Similar to the aroma, lots of juicy raspberries, great tart qualities. On the earthy side, with a little bit of grass and a slight lemon flavor. The oak comes through a little, but the tart/juicy raspberries really steal the show here.

M: Medium bodied with active carbonation, slightly prickly, with a little bit of a dry finish. Great tartness.

O: Fantastic beer, one of the best wild ales I have had. The flavor was incredibly vibrant, the type of beer I would love to have on hand everyday of the year.

I'd heard about Cool Ships. My wife, a wine drinker, and I were 1st timers at the brewery on a Friday, just happened to ask the server as I was about to leave if they had any of this CS? He said no but they were releasing some on Sat. 2 per customer @10am. Got my wife out of a warm bed at an ungodly hour to drive 25 miles to get in an already forming line at 8:45. She was ever so happy, NOT, to be my "mule" so I could buy 4 not just 2. Drank one after a little chilling at the motel and was not remotely disappointed. I like sours and this was pucker power but in a nice way. A couple are going back to Fl. to share with a friend. Oh, did I say I went back later that day and bought two more! Pricey though for 16oz bottle @$15/per but I guess after a 3 year wait this is ok. Worth the wait. Worth the price. Yea Allagash!

Thanks to BlessedBeBeer for this one. 375ml corked and caged bottle poured into a Cantillon flute. Shared with schen9303.

Pours a 2 finger foamy light pastel pink head with poor retention. Beer is a stunning, clear red. No Lacing, poor legs. More lambic looking than wild ale here. Extra points because I think it might be categorized wrong.

Nose is robust tart cherries. Wet hay, cobwebs, light cheesiness, dank rotting wood. Again, more lambic-like than wild ale. There's a conspicuously missing Brett presence also. Nontheless, really good but a bit muted.

Opens tart lemon, cherry, cobweb, band-aid, and plastic. Fruit presence is noted but hides behind a big gueuze profile. Really magical. More building sourness in the middle as the cherries emerge a touch more, sprinkling the tartness. End is yeasty with a puckering finish and tart, dry aftertaste. One of the best American Wild Ales I've had to date. As close as it gets to traditional Belgian lambic.

Light bodied with high carbonation. Prickly and lively in the mouth and dry and puckering going down. Dry and filmy finish with a bone dry aftertaste. Outstanding.

This beer comes out of nowhere for me. While I've tried a number of Allagash's limited offerings, none of them even come close to the achievement that is Coolship Red. Whether you age it or decide to drink it now, I'm sure you'll be impressed by this one.
