375ml bottle picked up at the brewery a week ago, bottled 4/12/13, poured into HF stemmed glass.

A- Pours just a slightly hazy translucent golden color with a thin white head that dissipates into a thin wispy layer. Nice consistent carbonation of tiny bubbles.

S- Slightly lemony, a bit cidery, faint oak, and a boat load of funk consisting of cheese, slight mustiness, and a bit of fungi. Fairly aromatic, very complex.

T- Slight lemon zestiness, lemon peel, sweet cider, slight pepper, earthy funk, oak, finishes with more lemon zest, slight cheesiness. Not as funky as the smell but nice complexity, not too much sourness.

M- Dry, medium bodied, very drinkable, nice carbonation.

O- This is a great coolship style beer and easily one of the best sours coming out of the US however I don't think it quite compares to some of the best Belgian gueuzes and lambics. Definitely worth trying if you like funky beers and I'm very glad I have relatively easy access to this beer as its only available at the brewery in Portland, Maine.

Shared bottle.

Pours a not particularly appealing looking hazy amber.

Aroma: Mild funkiness for style. Less off-putting than some others.

Flavor: Fruity and complex taste starts sweet and sour but turns tart and bitter by the finish. Quite tart mid-taste.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy orange-tinged golden color capped by an inch of foam that fades quickly; plenty of dotty lace is left behind

Smell: Lemon, green apple, leather and barnyard

Taste: Lemon and green apple, up front, rather acetic at the outset; develops funk and softer slightly tropical fruit flavors, in the middle; the finish is dry and leathery; the aftertaste is like a really sour white grapefruit

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation and a nice pucker

Overall: What an excellent beer this is after aging it in my cellar for three years; hits on all the right notes

June 2012 bottle. Been cellared since purchasing in Jan 2013. Reviewed Friday from full notes taken at the time.

Allagash Coolship Resurgam 06/21/2012

A- Golden bodied pour to a tulip with a small white head that falls fairly quickly. Fairly hazy appearance as the head dies to absolutely nothing. Lacing is not going to happen.

S- Reminds me of 3F and Cantillon Gueuze in a way. Funky and sour nose reminds me of the most authentic Gueuze. Dusty, sour, oak, lemons and barnyard.

T- Again, it brings back memories of the best Gueuzes I have had. The sours are high but not puckering like Cantillon or Hanssens can be. Lemon zest, barnyard funk, mineral water, stone fruit, oak, white grapes, pear/apple, slight tannins, some acetic and horsey funk. Cheesy cheddar.

MF- Dried out light end body as any Gueuze should have, the consistency is pretty much spot on. Carbonation is at a fairly high level and with each sip it foams up quite a bit. Finishes with tart acid lingering on the palate.

I have to remind myself to get a few bottles next time. I was somewhat strapped for cash when I got this bottle but this is at least on-par with the great Gueuze I have had. Tons of flavor and complexity with a great sourness.
