Poured on tap full pour at Smoke & Barrell, into a large snifter.

Gorgeous looking. Lemon orb glowing yellow, hints of brass gold with an opaque solid body together. Head is vanilla creamy white, moderate spider lacing.

Dry nose, quite interesting. Hint of red apple sweetness, mild lemon and citrus warmth. Slight heat but not much or distracting.

Palate brings some warmth. Peanut butter esters, chewy dense malt amd light sugars. Alcohol and floral warmth, slightly green. Sweet breads on the aftertaste with a little bit of milky character. Very dry first sip, and last as well.

Overall it feels like a typical and tastes like a typical Allagash brew, but they did a good job.

On Tap at Barcade in Philly For Beer Week 2012

A- Zakuza liquid resembles a bright golden color with some yellow within. This one is alive as about 3 fingers of dense white foam steadily rose. Excellent lacing, thick and coating.

S- I was kind of dissapointed in the smell on first sniffs as I got a hay/barnyard scent which was one sided. This opened up quickly though, with a bunch of fruits with apples up front. A good amount of spices with cloves centerstage. Some belgian yeast rounds this out.

T- Zakuza is a nice mix of both spices and fruit with Belgian yeast in between. Clove really shines with apples and pears coming through. Getting some bananers as well. Some hops in here but are not up front. A nice bready malty background.

M- The feel gets better with some warmth but as is, this is creamy and refreshing. The alcohol is barely noticable, well hidden. This one glides down with no distractions. A nice spicy aftertaste. Just dont drink it too cold.

D- My only regret is that drank it too quickly. Put off by the odor at first I was very surprised at the outcome. Very refreshing and tasty. It's high in alcohol but what the hell.

T-lemon, hints of bananas and pears, yeast, cloves, pepper

F-light to medium body with moderate carbonation, crisp, alcohol well-integrated

O-a good and distinctive Tripel for sipping

Growler filled at DeCicco's Brewster, NY during their Allagash event .

Pours near clear, dull yellowy amber, under a lasting fluffy off white head. Leaves more then ample spots and strands of lacing and a tiny bubble film.

Pepper, yeast and ripe fruits on the nose.

Tasty tripel thats on the hoppy side. Nice amounts of more ripe fruits, moderate pepper, lime and Belgian yeast notes all the way through. Dry finish. Real nice Americanized version of the style.

Happy to get to try this on draft.

A-Pours a cloudy hay color. Very translucent. Head is a fluffy bun that sits atop the body. Head manages to persevere throughout the entire glass. A textbook Tripel in terms of appearance.

S-Yeasty with big notes of apples and of course pears. The dry hopping really brings out a powerful hoppiness. Super grassy hops. Also a great floral hop character. Medium to high intensity in the nose. Overall quite an attractive aroma.

T-Very bright and lively. Hoppiness is pretty strong. Really grassy and floral. The dry-hopping of American hops brings in great notes of citrus and pine as well. Underneath the hoppiness is a classic Tripel that at its bare bones is quite nice as well. I really enjoyed the flavor.

M-Enough carbonation to mellow out the higher ABV. Full bodied and a bit creamy. This went down incredibly easy.

O/D-One of the better versions of a style that I am not in love with. In fact, this may be up there with my favorite Tripels because I love the infusion of the Cascade and Sorachi Ace. Very solid brew.

Appearance: It pours a slightly cloudy, pale straw color from my growler. A huge fluffy white head sits on top, but then drops pretty quickly, leaving great spiderweb lacing.

Smell: The nose is definitely interesting. It’s far more hop-forward than I would typically expect from a tripel, with a ton of lemons and oranges coming through. Traditional Belgian yeast notes are also present, but are mostly playing second fiddle to the hops.

Taste: The nose profile continues in the mouth. It’s sort of an inversion of a traditional tripel, with the hops (particularly the sorachi ace) taking the lead with citrus and a bracing bitterness, and the Belgian yeast flavors of pepper and cloves largely fill in around the edges. I must say that I am pleased with the increasing use of sorachi ace by creative brewers these days; it’s a nice way to add a summer element to different styles, and I look forward to people continuing to push the envelope in incorporating this hop into different styles.

Mouthfeel: Moderate carbonation works well here, balancing out that classic creaminess to keep it relatively light in the mouth.

Drinkability: The balancing of the elements, including the hop bitterness and the citrus elements that allow it to finish clean, make this one pretty damn drinkable.
