Notes/Commercial Description:
Golden Brett is a dark golden colored beer, brewed with Victory, 2-Row and Red Wheat malt. It was lightly hopped with a blend of Northern Brewer and Simcoe hops. The beer started it's primary fermentation in a stainless tank and finished fermentation in a 800 gallon oak foudre. The finished beer has fruity nose and flavors of citrus, apricot and bread crust. The mild tartness of the beer gives way to a long, clean finish.

10 ounce pour - $6.00 at Leon's Full Service in Decatur, Georgia as part of their Allagash Takeover event.

Appearance: Well-hazed, dark golden, honey-hued body with an inch of hefty albeit not quite dense, white foam.

Smell: By and large, GB smells like brett-infused apple juice. sure, a little bready maltiness and a slight perceived "sweetish" hint, yeah, apples and funk.

Taste: Lightly bready malts, lightly sweet. Modest phenolic mentholyptus hint. As with the nose, there's a clear-cut cider quality here, like a rustic farmhouse cider. Sweaty, musty, with a faint hint of butyric acid. Soft, smooth, near dry finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: Fairly good, quite cidery. Hell, I've had ciders that tasted further from apples than this did!

Serving type: on-tap

A - This is a beautiful beer - poured slowly into my Tree House Brewing tulip. The color is dark golden orange. There is a massive amount of carbonation that produces a consistent head of tiny white bubbles. Head retention is excellent, and splotches of white lace cling to the glass.

S - Mostly a citric acid type smell. Also seems a bit floral. Low key aroma, but penetrating.

T - Follows the nose and description. It's a vaguely citric flavor, but difficult to pinpoint a single, or even variety of fruits. I don't taste the funkiness that others describe. Instead I get a mildly acidic tartness. Not a huge pucker factor, although this element grows a little as the beer warms.

M - On the light side in terms of body, with huge carbonation presence. The tingle from the carbonations works great in conjunction with the acidic nature of this beer. The finish is clean and mildly dry. While the finish is clean, it is lasting.

O - This was a treat, both in that it was an excellent beer and that the price was significantly higher than I've ever paid. Probably the most expensive beer I've ever purchased given the 375 mL bottle. I'm happy with this birthday present to myself, and continue to love Allagash beers.

2014 bottle poured cold. Cloudy gold with white spotty clouds. Smells of funked barnyard, peaches, dirt. Taste follows the nose with a phenomenal tart citrus and funkiness. The feel might be the best part with spot on rushing small bubble carb. Overall love allagash and I enjoy this one more than midnight Brett.
