This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Collaboration with Monk's Cafe (Philly), Falling Rock (Denver), Toronado (San Francisco), and Brouwer's (Seattle). Brewed in 2010 and aged in various oak barrels, then blended in April, 2013 from the following barrels:
198 - wine barrel used for Interlude
241 - wine barrel used twice for sour ales
362, 363 - bourbon barrels that once held Odyssey & Black Stout
561 - new, uncharred oak
770, 775 - bourbon barrels used for Curieux
771, 772 - bourbon barrels used for Curieux (different lineages)
773 - 1st use wine barrel
776 - bourbon barrel, topped off with pediococcus-spiked stout
777 - bourbon barrel

First had: on tap at Monk's, Philly, PA

The complex tale of this beer is quite interesting, and the barrels used for the aging really lent a completely unique taste.

The end result was a deep, dark brown beer, with some fuzzy maroon tints, capped off with a small tan head that retained as a thin ringlet. Aroma heavy with cherries and red wine, acetic acid, leather, dark malts, dark chocolate. Taste was wild and complex, tart with black cherries and red wine, acetic, but not overly puckering, semi-sweet chocolate, small hints of leather and charred wood, with an unexpected, distinct hit of cinnamon in the finish. Quite an experience. Body was on the heavier side of medium, carbonation was moderate, drinkability was high, but perhaps not for those with delicate palates.

I had no idea this beer even existed so it was a pretty nice score given the crazy barreling involved. Dark garnet in body - biting carbonation, red wine, leather, black cherry, wood, heavy tartness. Great stuff - not sure if this will surface again, but we can hope

On tap at Monk's Cafe Mad Monday

A- Pours black with some ruby hues creeping through, small white foamy head that reduces completely.

S- Smells of dark currant, blackberry, wild grapes, sharp oak and vanilla, the dark fruit definitely overwhelms the aroma.

T- strong, puckering flavor of wild dark grape up front with notes of sweet currant and concord grape kicking in mid-palate. Sweet berries and slightly acidic vinegar on a dry and puckering finish, with more grape on the linger

M- Medium body with low carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel and a dry, puckering finish

O- this was one of the highlights of the Mad Monday event for me. Our table went through three glasses of it and I actually preferred the taste over Consecration. Very well done.

Pour is black with a light brown head. Fruity cherry, lots of the Flemish sour come through in the nose. Smells a bit acetic with some unique dark malt. Taste is fairly acetic, lots of sour cherry and traditional Flemish sour flavor with an interesting chocolaty, dark malt note. Light body. Really strong carb, a hint slick.

Draft a Monks Cafe in Philadelphia, PA.

Pours a deep, dark chestnut brown color that's almost black with plum hues and a minuscule beige head that immediately disappears.  No lacing.  

Musty, funky aroma with strong acetic acid, dry oak and vinous fruit notes.  Not solvent like but plenty of vinegary sweetness along with grape, dark cherry, currant and other berries. Subtle toasted malt with caramel, cocoa and toffee but the acetic acid and dark fruit dominate the aroma.

Slightly oil-y medium body with a very tart, puckering mouthfeel.  Strong acetic acid lingering over oak and vinous fruit flavors into a dry, tart finish.  A bit too much acetic acid for me.  Slightly solvent-like with acetone/chemicals and lot of vinegary sweetness that overpowers the oak, malt backbone and dark fruit sweetness.  Refreshingly tart but one dimensional, somewhat harsh, and tough to drink.

A: Pours a dark red brown color with no head.

S: Aromas of red wine, black currants, slight roast notes, tart black cherries

T: follows the aroma with notes of tart cherry, chocolate, red wine, leather, black currant, oak. Medium strength acidic sourness.

M: Medium bodied with light medium carbonation

O: Wow. I was not expecting to be so impressed with this. Incredibly flavorful and super complex. Absolutely worth seeking out.
