From a 750 ml bottle into a wine glass. Reviewed from notes dated September 1, 2013.

A-The brew pours dark, nearly black and opaque. The head is mocha-colored. The head starts at about one and one-half fingers tall. Retention is decent, upwards of two minutes, but no lacing is left behind.

S-The orange flavors are obvious, which combine with a cocoa flavor, to give me the impression of orange-chocolate candy. There is also a lightly nutty character in there. The roast levels are pretty moderate and there is a bit of zesty pepper. Interesting.

T-The taste also provides heavy hits of zesty orange, and light and dark chocolates. The nuttiness is mostly gone, but there is a definite, malty, light-roasted character here. Hops are mostly in the background, but provide a bit of bitterness to accompany the orange. Unique, for sure.

M-The feel is lighter for the style with some carbonation. Drinkable.

O-This is a decent tasting "summertime" porter. The blood orange provides an interesting twist to the chocolate flavors and seems to contribute the drinkability. I don't know that I would drink this every day, but it provides a nice spin to the typical porter. (1,171 characters)

I don't go to Allagash very often for a rew different reasons but I wanted to try this years version of this beer.Poures a deep cola color with a nice big rocky light beige head that becomes creamy as it settles into a frothy mass.Aromas of dark roast and mineral-like yeastiness wich was different, although it might be an American porter it is heavy handed in the yeast department.A little sharp in the mouth but mouthfeel is about right.Espresso roast coffee flavors along big earthiness and yeast, faint citric notes in the finish.Hmm it's not bad but I was expecting a little more I guess . (593 characters)

Appearance: dark brown in color, 1/4 inch head, medium carbonation, clear

Smell: roasted coffee

Taste: coffee and roasted malt,

Mouthfeel: moderate carbonation, medium-heavy body, roasty bitterness

Overall: I am usually wowed by Allagash, however this beer did not do this for me. It is a solid roasty porter and a nice slow drinker. Above average, but nothing I would seek out again. (388 characters)

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Not quite black. Transparent at the edges. Big off white head. Thick collar.

Smell - Smells like it's hoppy, but I guess that's the blood orange. Citrusy. Grapefruit. Roasty.

Taste - Orangey citrus. Slightly roasty, but more of a caramel flavor. Slightly bitter.

Mouthfeel - Rather thin. Seems overcarbonated. Maybe it isn't.

Overall - Very blah. No body. Not a good blend of orange and chocolate. (454 characters)
