Pours pitch black with a nice one finger tan head. Looks moderately carbonated. Head recedes to a slight skim. Still looks attractive.
Smells of roasted dark malts with hints of coffee/cocoa notes. slight smoke and a caramel sweetness. There is a nice orange zest that I can kind of pick up on. Lends itself well even if I think it's just my mind playing tricks.
Taste is really outstanding. It's nicely balanced and the flavors don't overpower one another. I definitely get the roasted character and slightly burnt brown sugar midway through. And at the front of the tongue I get a slight citric note that melds with some roasted baked beans, oats, and dark malts. Hint of brown sugar sweetness.
Mouthfeel is fairly full yet crisp enough to not let this feel sticky or viscous. A nice drinkable, somewhat reasonable abv porter. Very appreciative of that.
Overall, if this were a year round offering It might be my go to porter. I would have to try a couple more times to see if the subtle citric notes would get old but as of right now, I'm digging it.

Pours a dark brown color almost black. There is a moderate sized dense light brown head that settles into a solid ring.
The aroma is earthy. Roasted malt notes mixed in with a woody or smoke scent. The wood notes are quite light. I don't really pick up too much blood orange. Overall the aroma is not all that strong.
The flavor is of roasted malt, burnt bread and anise. Some citrus notes but they get lost in the malt. Scorched caramel sweetness. The blood orange brings some rind bitterness as well. A dry charcoal note in the finish. A solid porter flavor but the additions don't really pop through.
The feel is light with airy carbonation. Mostly bitter on the palate with some sweetness coming through. Dry in the finish. Drinks well.
A good porter but I was expecting a little bit more. Worth a purchase.

A- the way it oughta be. Dark, a finger of almost tawny foam, good laces, classic porter.
S - slight burn, some citrusy trace.
T - nice, smooth, balanced, choc/dark roast coffee/yeast & slight blood orange
M- smooth, smooth, smooth - slight bitter/dry finish.
O- ordered a second with oysters, quite good

Pours dark as a porter should be. Although I didn't realize it was a porter until I poured and saw and smelled it. It has a burnt nose with a little citrus that comes through. Or maybe it's more because I expect there to be citrus. But it really doesn't have much of a citrus smell, or when it comes to taste it's pretty absent too. It's a very burnt porter which can go either way. The burnt malty taste pretty much takes up all the taste but does make an interesting porter. I guess I really can't commit to how much I like this or not so it must be somewhere in the middle. The price is the biggest downfall. For this price I expect a bit more.

Appearance: dark brown in color, 1/4 inch head, medium carbonation, clear
Smell: roasted coffee
Taste: coffee and roasted malt,
Mouthfeel: moderate carbonation, medium-heavy body, roasty bitterness
Overall: I am usually wowed by Allagash, however this beer did not do this for me. It is a solid roasty porter and a nice slow drinker. Above average, but nothing I would seek out again.
