Definitely a can't be missed location in the state. They often have some awesome rare-release beers to purchase at the brewery.

One does not simply walk into Allagash ... and expect to go on a tour!

No, these must be booked long in advance as they fill extremely fast. Luckily I knew this before I got there so I was resigned to just trying a sample flight and maybe grabbing some schwag. Based just on that it's an OK experience. The free sample flight is quite generous but certainly not worth a long trip if you're coming from far away.

Incredible facility and a very nice tasting room. They serve free flights, so tough to argue with that! The rating is more for the location than their beers. I like Allagash, but prefer American style APAs and IPAs.

Fantastic brewery, and a fantastic tour.

Allagash is a fairly large brewery overall, and their tour takes you through the entire operation, including their extensive barrel aging program.

They serve a great beer flight at the brewery, but alas, no food.

You can buy some of their great beer on the premises, including some options that are only available at the brewery itself, and others that are otherwise extremely limited in distro.

As to the quality of the beer itself, Allagash has made a name for itself as one of the pioneers of Belgian-style American craft beer scene. Their success makes them easy to overlook, but do so at your own loss; they are one of the very, very few brewers in North America who can legitimately claim to brew authentic, world-class Belgian-style ales (and are similarly one of the very few with a true coolship).

I cannot recommend their beer or their brewery tour well enough. One of the most informative, friendly, and yet not condescending tours I've been on to date.
