Poured from a can into a pilsner glass

Appearance: pours light gold and crystal clear with a minimal head that leaves little to no lacing.

Smell: Lightly roasted malt. Bread. Not much hop aroma. Slight floral notes, but nothing substantial.

Taste: crisp, clean and balanced. Malt notes up front. Light toasiness that comes through on the palate, followed by an immediate hop bitterness. Again, not a lot of hop flavor, but you get it to balance out the malt.

Mouthfeel: light and refreshing. Bitterness lingers on the tongue, but neither the hops nor the malt are overwhelming.

Overall: pretty much a perfect example of a German Pilsner: pale gold, moderately hopped, balanced, bready undertones, hop bitterness without a ton of hop aroma. Easy to drink and enjoy.

11.2 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a clear straw color. There's a finger worth of white-colored head, and the retention isn't that great. Some lacing is left on the glass.

S: Unfortunately, I notice a bit of skunk - it's not Heineken bad, or even lightstruck Pilsner Urquell bad, but it overtakes the otherwise decent noble hopping. Malts are vaguely evident, along with a sulfury character (expected from the style). All in all, however, the nose isn't bad.

T: A wave of zesty bitterness hits immediately. Some malty sweetness helps to balance the grassy flavors. Dead simple, but immensely satisfying.

M: Full and creamy for a pilsner. This only slightly inhibits drinkability, and helps give it a richness missing from so many average examples. Carbonation is pretty vibrant.

O: This is a really nice, well hopped pilsner. I'd like it a lot more if it weren't quite so skunky and simplistic (even by pils standards). Still, a worthy offering.

First pour I wasn't so sure, head was not there. I realized then I had a terrible pour. The second pour into a pilsner glass was excellent. A beer needs a good head for aroma and presentation, this fit the bill nicely. Head is excellent, it charges the liguid forming from the head. Nice bright white head with pervasive lacing. Nice deep grainy notes on the nose. For a mass produced beer this is impressive. Quality is top notch, no cutting corners here. I find myself keeping my nose nailed to the glass. Aroma keeps you stationary. Good sign when I habitually keep doing that. The color rendition is beautiful, nice light straw color that doesn't deceive you. Very smooth with light carbonation. There is plenty of desirability here. This is another pilsner on the top.

Awesome beer!

Haven't been able to land this old favorite for a long time. Saw it and took advantage. Best by 02.14.2014 clearly marked on the label.

A -- Billowy, thick white head that holds up very well and leaves good lacing. Clear straw gold -- perfect Pils appearance.

S -- Spicy, herbal Noble Hops up front, mild DMS back. Very enticing.

T -- Good balance of bready, melanoidin malt and spicy hops up front, the hops take over the show afterward and into the finish. Herbal, grassy bitterness lingers through the aftertaste, even very light citrus.

M -- Mouthfeel is soft up front to crisp and near dry in the finish with a light to medium-light body.

O -- My German friends will call this a "macro" to them, but it's hardly fair to stand this up against any U.S. macro. This is a terrific, to-style Pilsner that doesn't disappoint.
