Pours a clean pale yellow color with a white head. In the aroma, or lack there of, a faint sweet malt. In the taste, watery with a small malt. A smooth and light bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry to clean aftertaste. Thin, watery, and nothing exciting.

This beer is unfortunate. I dont drink pilsners and this is a clear reminder of why.

Appearance is thin and mealy, with a light head and not much for the color.

Smell is very similar to that of Bush light. Ouch.

Taste is mellow and unattributable. A bit sharp and lacks sweetness.

Low-key finish and carbonation that doesnt hold. Insincerely malty aftertaste that makes you really not want another sip.

11.2 oz bottle poured into a Shock Top weizen glass. No stamped date. Bought at Spec's in El Paso.

Appearance - Super pale gold body. Two finger white fluffy head with decent to low retention and almost no stick.

Smell - Wet hay. Musky corn. Cardboard. Basically like a horse stall.

Taste - Very grassy. Metallic. Otherwise flavorless. Not very good.

Mouthfeel - Astringent. Flat. Dull.

Overall Drinkability - Possibly the worst german pilsner I've had. Maybe it's just a bad bottle, but without a date there's no way I can tell.

Pours a transparent straw color with perfect clarity, topped by only the faintest whisp of a white head. Aroma is mild and primarily skunky, with a very vague sweetness and hop essence. The flavor is similar to the nose--faint and unappealing. This tastes like beer in the most generic sense of the term. There's a mild honeyed malt flavor on the front end and some hop bitterness in the finish, but those are the closest things to defined flavors I can discern. The rest is just a wash of what I would normally associate with a "light" beer. Yet another Pilsner that leaves me scratching my head as to the merits of the style.

The color is light-yellow, head is impressive, Methuselan, leaving behind a pleasing, papery residue. The smell is slight and yeasty, on the sweet side.

The taste is heavy, hoppy and dominated by a heavy metallic flavor. Ick. The mouthfeel is overall metallic also, making the drinkablity dissapointing. Given the overall favorable reviews, I may try this beer again (to be fair), but certainly not from a can. The metallic taste is just too brutal to ignore, making it impossible to muck through and enjoy the flavors lingering underneath.

I will sample again in a few weeks.

330ml bottle poured into Koenig glass. Two finger head, clear, pale colour. Faint hoppy smell. Crisp dry pils. Not easy on the palate. Lots of fiz. This beer is interchangeable with warsteiner, krombacher etc. Standard german pils. It's decent, wouldn't want more than 3 as its so dry.

I tried this beer on October 18, 2007 after purchasing from my local LCBO outlet. The beer poured a very pale gold colour with a large foamy white head which quickly disappeared. The aroma was a combination of citrusy hops with some grainy backup. The mouthfeel was this, slightly watery, with ample carbonation. The flavour was slighty hoppy and a little bitter.

Light yellow macro like color with a quickly fading head.Aroma is skunk that most German Pilseners seem to have.Taste is a mix of skunk and grape. In my opinion not impressive but somebody who likes this style probably would disagree. This is not something I would get again in the future!!

A - Crystal clear golden colour, with a significant amount of carbonation. Pours with a massive head, with good retention.

S - Mild hoppiness, with floral notes. The smell isn't that strong, in fact in an attempt to find a smell I put my nose to close to the beer and accidentally snorted it (I would advise against this).

T - Initially a crisp grassy hops taste. Leaves a bitter aftertaste, which a perfumy quality. The overall taste is surprisingly weak.

M - High level of carbonation in the mouth. Thin and light in body.

D - I have had better pilsners, this seems relatively weak in taste and body. Also, the overly perfumy aftertaste is a bit of a put off.

Not that great of a beer. Carbonation is there but it's a bit flat either on tap (at Huettenbar in Chicago) or from a can. Off color metallic flavors are up front in this beer. You really have to keep chugging it to avoid the emergence of a straw flavored, skunky aftertaste. I can't see how anyone would rave about this or give it more than a C+. It's German but it has that crappy stale Dutch beer flavor of Heineken or Amstel. Many better German beers are available: Bitburger, Stiegl, Spaten, Wurzburger, Hofbrau...

Pours golden with pretty much no head.
Sweet bready malt aroma, with hints of honey and some vegetal notes. Pretty faint.
Some sweet bready malt upon tasting, with a sharp overbearing bitterness later.
Body is slightly watery, but at least the carbonation is not extreme.

500ml can

A- Pale golden colour with lot of carbonation visible. One finger of nice white head, decently thick and persistent. Some hints of lacing are left on the glass

S- Restrained and slighty metallic aroma of bready malts and noble hops. Faint citrus/lemon note

T- Crisp grainy/crackery malts, with some vague butter feel to them. Some light floral and lemon notes show up on the tongue. Quite bitter, even for the style and expecially in the aftertaste, but with some kind of metallic, flavourless bitterness that does not feel that pleasant

M- Light in body but highly carbonated. Watery on the tongue and harsh on the palate. Unpleasant, bitter/metallic aftertaste

O- Overall decently flavourful, with some subtle notes showing up and a bit of complexity. Not that refreshing or very well balanced though, and i'm again blaming that metallic bitterness for this

This follows the textbook style of German brewing. The heavy milk like lace and sun tainted skunk smell is the first thing you get from it. It has somewhat of a cleaner taste then some of the other pilsners I’ve had. The beer follows the footsteps of all the others from the region but I get a little more yeast taste from it. The price is cheaper that the others as well. If I was looking for this style, I would probably pick this one up again.

Montréal, December 2006: Me and my German roommates from my hostel hit up a dépanneur, as they were thristy for more beer before we went clubbing that night. Of the limited selection there, this was the beer of choice among my German roommates. I didn't have it that night, and since then I have been wondering what it might have tasted like.

Which brings me to tonight, almost two years later. I found a single 12 ounce bottle at O'Shea's, and now I'm ready to find out. On to the beer:

A one and a half finger's thckness of head tops this golden straw colored beer. The aroma is grassy, hay-like. Pale malt sweetness. And there a bit of wet cardboard smell too.

Oooo, sour grain. The light and brush of crispness leaves this beer with a good feel, but I wish this beer weren't as sour. Here comes the hay flavor and what seems to be hop extract, but that sour grain flavor is starting to annoy me. Let's end this now....

Perhaps I got a less than ideal bottle, so maybe I'll come back to this and experience what this beer really wanted to do to my tastebuds.
