Notes/Commercial Description:
McGovern's Oatmeal Stout is a very dark, full-bodied stout with a smooth, moderate bitterness and roasted malt character. Integral parts of this stout include its subtle chocolate and caramel flavors. Hops also provide a subtle aroma and flavor without overpowering McGovern's overall balance. The milky, caramel colored head has small, tight, foamy bubbles that slowly cascade into the dark. aromatic liquid thanks to its oatmeal heritage.

Oatmeal also gives McGovern's a richer, full bodied quality with-out the bitter, burnt after-tasty often associated with stouts and other dark beers. This makes for a smoother drinking experience, especially for those who plan to enjoy more than one. Bartender Important - When pouring McGovern's Oatmeal Stout on draft, use any tap faucet with regular bar gas for best results. A traditional restrictor faucet cannot be used.

A- Pours a deep dark brown with one hell of a head.

S- slightly sweet with a definate alcohol/solvent smell.

T- slightly sweet, mild burnt/coffee taste. Slightly watery.

M- It has a "foamy" mouthfeel.

D- Not unpleasant. I could drink a few of these. The overall flavor is a little watered down though.

Poured a nice black color with approximately one finger of reddish brown head. Some lacing, the head holds up pretty well.

Smell is rather bland, a little bit of malts, but it's just not much on the smell. The smell improves some as the brew warms, but still unremarkable.

The taste is a bit like the smell, it's a stout, but it's on the mild side without any really strong taste.

Mouth feel is pretty good, some creaminess and not too thin. As noted by other reviewers, this brew is over carbonated and it detracts from the overall mouth feel.

I drank this one down fairly quickly and could've drank a couple more.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours an opaque black with a little tan head that drops to a slight ring.

Smell is very faint. Just the slightest hint of sweet malt.

Taste is of some bitter oats and a touch of coffee.

Overall, not bad, but not one I'd go out to get. A tad boring. That said, nothing major wrong with it. Worth a try.

Jet black with a nice small head at first. Mild espresso and cocoa aroma. Deep roasted flavor-almost to a burnt degree but it is not unpleasant. Some hop bitterness. Lacks the creamy flavor and the silkiness of a good oatmeal stout. Body is a tad thin-again no sign of oats in here. A decent enough stout.

Poured out of 12oz. bottle, this elixir resembles a dark coffe like liquer, with a nice head profile of creamy coffee foam. Aromas are mild, containing sweet oats and malt, hay and roasted porridge. Flavors are nicer than the aromas, serving up a meritage of dark cocoa, roasted gruel, blackened grog and nice sweet oatmeal on the finish. A decent offering for consumers to seek out. This tasted much better as it warmed up, and I recommend bringing this to almost room temperature to enjoy the full palate of flavors.
