Saw the bear on the bottle (yes, I am a bear person!) and never had a beer from Russia so when I needed to replenish my bottle stash here at the house, I ended up grabbing this at Joe Canal's in Parsippany. Needless to say, I never had anything from Baltika before and even though I knew that this wouldn't be an award-winner, I was fine with it as a change of pace from the heavier and hoppier beers that I tend to review on here...

The pour to this was golden, clear, and topped off with plenty of head. A good amount of lacing was left along the middle of my pint glass although the collar was quite thin. Grass, flowers, and dough filled the moderate nose as the taste was nicer than I anticipated. Full, not sour, and briskly carbonated, this was a basic beer that wasn't skunky like it's European counterparts that I'd have out of a glass bottle. It wasn't an Amber but nor was it like other American Adjunct Lagers that I've had over the years, with the end result being a beer that I wouldn't mind reaching for again!

Part of the reason for that was the light amount of alcohol that was present, which made this a session beer in every sense of the word. Sure, I'm a beer snob and prefer the stuff that's in cans from new breweries but for a change of pace, I'd have this again - even if the bear wasn't on the bottle!

From Combini Market. In Teku glass. At lunch, with cheese pizza + vegetal sandwi. After futsal match. Very drinkable and more malty, with more body, than usual in russian lagers. Some pleasant sweetness and an appropiate level of bitterness. Not an amber as the name suggest but a pale. Abv of mine was 4.7

Ratings on BA for Russian beers seems low. I picked up this Amber at a local Russian store. It's fresh and refreshing. Nice aftertaste better than many Ambers. Only regret is I only bought one pint.

A: The beer is clear light yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high bright white head that died down, but consistently left a thick layer of bubbles covering the surface, a collar around the edge and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light aromas of corn adjuncts are present in the nose along with some hints of grassy hops.
T: Rather sweet in the taste, the beer has flavors of corn and other adjunct malts. No bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and a little clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer had a decent mouthfeel for the style because it wasn't thin or watery but the taste seemed to be a little too sweet.

I bought a 51oz plastic bottle of this at Woodman's West in Madison, WI for $1.99.

Pours a clear amber color with a slight but quickly disappearing head. Scent is mild with cheap malts and the taste is watery with grassy grains. Is decently sweet and light with a dry finish. In the realm of beers this isn't very good, but at $2 for 51oz this is a great tasting beer. I would take this any day over a 24oz can of Miller/Bud for the same price.
