16 oz bottle poured looking like Coca-cola, about the same carbonation, and no lacing left on the glass. Smells weakly of molasses and roasted malts, some yeast. Sweet tasting, almost like a milk stout. Light to medium body, watery mouthfeel. It's 7% abv is hidden nicely in the smooth taste but overall is a boring beer--- it is cheap so it has that going for it.

This was poured from the bottle into a special glass I got from attending an event a few years ago called "Hats Off to Home Brewers," hosted by Boulevard and Deschutes. I have been on hiatus for about nine months, and this is my emergence from hibernation.

Appearance - Looks like you would expect a porter to look in the color department: dark brown, almost black. Very little head is present, and consequently very little lacing is left on the glass. There is nothing of note about the bottle and/or packaging.

Smell - Again pretty par for the course, although the nose is a little subdued. Earthy, roasted and caramel malts with a mild coffee zip.

Taste - Nothing spectacular, but good. Follows the nose very closely, although there is the slight addition of a mild chocolate as well.

Mouthfeel - This is where the beer disappointed me mildly. I found it to be very thin, not with the volume or heartiness you would expect out of a porter. Finishes thin and uninspiring.

Overall - Not a bad beer, a decent beer to knock off of your list if you were on a "Beers of the World" quest or something of that nature. Otherwise, there's 20 other porters I would recommend before this one at the same price point.

A good lasting beige head tops a very dark beer. Lacing is pretty good.

Smells of chocolate and berries with a hint of milkiness. An inviting aroma.

The taste is of dark chocolate and roasted malt. Vinous notes are present as are suggestions of berries and a touch of sweet milk. The flavours are of medium intensity. I would have liked a more overwhelming strength of flavour but what I tasted was very pleasant.

For a 7% beer drinkability is high and it could be drunk like a 5 - 5% stout.

A very decent porter from Russia. Would make a good alternative to Guiness Foreign Extra which has a similar strength. This one has the possible benefit of sold in 500ml bottles.

My mark out of one hundred would be 80.
