Pours a nice golden color with slight haze. Has a nice clove aroma. Taste is very refreshing like a hefeweizen. Seems a little cleaner than the traditional hefe, making it more of a cross between an American Wheat and a Germen Hefe. If you are a wheat beer connoisseur, then you should try this beer. Baltika hit a home run with this one--this is the best Baltika beer I've had so far. (385 characters)

The color when poured was of a hazy wheaty yellow with an orange hue. The aroma was of yeast, spice and a hint of vanilla and banana.

The flavor was of sweet/tangy yeasty malts, with vanilla, banana, and a hint of spice to balance the component into a pleasant Hefeweizen. Not to sweet and not to tart. A little different taste from the German Hefe. But, still a very good beverage. (381 characters)

look: 4 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 4

Poured from 500mL bottle into a weizen glass. Bottle says best before 7/18/2010, but four months is hardly super old for a beer.

Appearance: light golden-yellow hue with a touch of haze and plenty of effervescence. Head pours two thick fingers of pillowy white foam. I rather like it.

Smell: nice wheaty aroma with a touch of clove to boot. This beer is certainly trending toward a true hefeweizen, but I feel like there isn't a whole lot of character to the aroma. Just a little bit of banana would help this beer a whole lot.

Taste: nice wheaty and clovey flavor. There's just the tiniest hint of banana here, but I still feel like there could be a lot more yeast character. The wheaty and malty aspects are pretty good, though, and I like the taste more than the aroma.

Mouthfeel: light body with a decent amount of carbonation. I would like to see a lot more creaminess in this brew.

Drinkability: a refreshing and quite drinkable hefeweizen. It's not my favorite, but it is above what most American breweries seem to pass off as hefeweizens. (1,051 characters)

Pours a deep hazy yellowish orange color with a thick off white head and a tiny bit of lacing. Smells of coriander, orange zest, and plenty of wheat. Tastes a little like coriander, orange and lemon zest, black pepper, and plenty of wheat almost like wheat germ. Mouthfeel is medium and decent. Drinkability is pretty good. (323 characters)

Baltika No. 8

Appearance: Light yellow with a large head and little to no lacing.

Smell: A hint of wheat and yeast.

Taste: Bland wheat and yeast water.

Mouthfeel: Medium and semi-smooth.

Bottom line:
This is one of the most bland beers I've ever had. It makes Bud Light seem complex. If you've never had a Russian beer, don't start with this one. (351 characters)

Poured from 500 ml bottle into my pint glass. Foam foam foam! Patience required.

Looks cloudy pale yellow with lots of lacing. The foam remains throughout.

Quite wheaty smell, very nice.

Wheaty chalky taste - wheat a touch firmer than most hefes I have had - almost moving to a gritty territory, but hangs on the border and remains tatsy. Some kind of spice buried in there I can't nail down. Nice balance.

Smooth mouthfeel, minimal carbonation. Good drinker, one to enjoy. (478 characters)

Pours a nice cloudy golden yellow. Small head drops fast and leaves no lace.
Smell is wheat, malt, banana and yeast.
Taste is as above with a vety slight acidic note, tangy almost with aa hint of vanilla. Atouch of alcohol in the aftertaste.
Light-medim body with good effervescence. A good, solid middle-of-the-road performer with good balance throughout. (356 characters)

A: Pours a rich, cloudy gold color with a fluffy off-white head that slowly fades to impressive lacing.

S: Barley and wheat malt, yeast and banana.

T: This is a delicious Russian take on the classic south German hefeweizen. The Russian twist, in my opinion, is the prevalence of banana over any spicy clove flavor. In fact, I couldn't detect any clove at all, but the sweetness of the malt and the banana esters make this a wonderful beer. We had it together with one of the first real salads I've had since we've been in Russia, and the match was perfect.

M: Good full body and ample carbonation.

D: If this were more widely available here (in Kazan), I'd drink more of it. (678 characters)

look: 3 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 3 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Poured a straw yellow color, cloudy, had about two fingers worth of a head on it that retained and laced nicely.

Aroma: You can defiantly smell the yeast in this beer, but it is not overwhelming. Bit of lemon and spice smell to it as well.

Taste: Clove and banana flavor, a bit of vanilla. Light citrus taste. Hint of nutty flavors. The best way to describe it is Banana nut bread with a little lemon.

Mouth feel: Good amount of carbonation, Smooth body. It went down smooth.

Drinkability: Great wheat beer. Even better than some of the German Hefe and American wheat beers I have had

Definitely a great Wheat beer. (633 characters)

A - Pours a cloudy light golden colour with sudsy head which dissipates quickly and leaves very little lacing.

S - Very light wheaty smell with yeast undertones.

T - I think my mouth orgasmed. It really made the tastebuds tickle. Light and smooth with a sweet banana flavour with a crisp apple like aftertaste.

M - Light on the fizz medium bodied beer. Very refreshing.

D - The only bad thing I have to say about this for drinkability is that I'm kicking myself for only buying one bottle. I will be actively seeking this one out again! (540 characters)

Poured from 16.9oz bottle into 23oz NY Mets branded pilsner glass.

Appearance: Cloudy pale golden color with a large white head that dissipates quickly and only leaves a bit of lace.

Smell: Sweet banana and clove with yeast and wheat notes in the background.

Taste: Sweet fruits- apple, banana, and clove, with a sweet wheaty finish.

Mouthfeel: Watery with light carbonation and a very refreshing finish.

Drinkability: Not the best hefeweizen, but still a very solid one. It's price is also a plus- this beer is definitely worth a look. (541 characters)

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 2.5 | feel: 3 | overall: 3.5

A: hazy and cloudy; straw yellow; frothy head that dissipates rather rapidly; not much lacing

S: A surprising amount of the typical hefeweizen aromas: bananas and cloves; also an earthy graininess; something a bit metallic as well

T: Citrus--lemon but more like lemon juice squirted in; the complexities of the aroma are all but gone in the taste; watery and overly lemony--rather boring; it's not offensive but not interesting in the least

F: Quite thin and watery; runs right through the mouth

D: This does quench the thirst and is drinkable but it's not something you would want to drink too much of because it's just not that great (639 characters)

Pours darker than expected. Yellow gold, clear, and actively carbonated. Light, frothy 2-finger head with decent retention and lacing.

Lemongrass and straw dominate the nose. Some weak cloves in there, too.

Very clean and crisp. More sour than anticipated. Sweet lemons in the finish.

Feel is slightly fizzy, but not bad.

Easy drinker on a hot day. Will have to remember this one once the weather warms. (408 characters)

Poured from the bottle to a pint glass.

A slighty couldy yellow as expected for wheat. seems to be very carbonated. a great pillowy white head.

Smells like bananas and yeast. A hint of spice. pretty nice actually.

The taste is smooth. Yes it definitely has some carbonation to it.
This is a decent drinking examle of a german wheat...from Russia... (352 characters)

Poured a 500ml bottle into my Flying Saucer globe. This beer pours a hazy golden wheat with a massive cloudy white cap that leaves some massive lacing down the sides of the glass. The aroma is classic Hefe. Big banana notes, clove, a bit of bubble gum and a slight nuttiness. The clove is really mild and the banana is really big. They really nailed the nose. The flavor is like banana nut bread. Bruised bananas, yeasty biscuits, clove, and fatty nuts. No bubble gum is present on the palate. The mouthfeel is light and coats the mouth with a big banana flavor. It finishes a bit dry for the style but, dang, I like it. Overall this is probably the 2nd best Baltika beer I've had. Absolutely solid. (699 characters)

This beer has a cloudy golden body with a very frothy off white head and full lace. The aroma is slightly clove and wheat like. The body is little bit thinner than a lot of wheat beers and somewhat watery. The flavor is fruity. There are tones of banana and citrus. It has some spiciness from the yeast. It is not bad but there a bit of adjunct flavor to the wheat beer. (370 characters)

Had at The Russia House near Dupont Circle in Washington, DC.

A: Cloudy light yellow with a large, foamy head.

S: Strong wheat malts shine through with a bit of citrus.

T: Excellent wheat malt / banana taste; big, bready yeasts, slightly spicy.

M: Slightly watery, but has the carbonation to compensate.

D: Baltika can give the Germans a run for their money. Excellently drinkable Hefe. I'm constantly surprised by how good Baltika's brews are. (453 characters)

Appearance: looks like a normal hef...maybe a little lighter than normal. good head retention

Smell: big banana, sweet, citrus as well

Taste: banana, more citrus than most hefs I have had. sweet.

Body: light body. a lot of carbonation

Overall: I actually really enjoyed this beer. I bought it randomly for about 2 bucks at a local store in the OC. I had no idea the Russians could brew like this. I was quite impressed (423 characters)

look: 3 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Poured a few shades lighter than I'm used to seeing with this style. It wasn't for the fact that it's cloudy and came with a massive 3 finger head I may have mistaken it for an adjunct. In case you haven't already fingered it out it's a very light straw yellow. The head didn't stick around to play.

Smell: The nose is mostly of banana bread. Very sweet and fruity. There's also a little bit of bubblegum poking around in the background. It's pleasant but lacking in any kind of spiciness.

Taste: Following the smell this is very strong on the banana bread. The bubblegum isn't present here and there is some of the yeasty, spicy tones that were absent in the nose. The banana flavors are quite overwhelming and I really wish there was more here to balance them out a bit.

Mouthfeel: Fair level of carbonation, light to medium bodied. It has a very enjoyable dry finish. That could be the best aspect of this beer.

Drinkability: If you couldn't already tell I found this beer leans a little to far into the sweet and fruity aspects of a hefeweizen. There's no reason to drink this when a proper German example could be had for marginally more cost.

Overall I'm a novice in the grand scheme of wheat beer. I've concentrated a lot of my time on big boy stouts and hop bombs. But I think I have an understanding of what a top notch hefeweizen tastes like and this is just not it. It's a good try and I'd still take it over just about any American Pale Wheat. (1,472 characters)

Poured from a brown 16.9 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy light brown color with a 1 inch head. Smells of spices and citrus. Taste is excellent. A great combination of banana, citrus, and spices, this beer is bursting with flavor. Feels delicious in the mouth and goes down with ease. Overall this makes for a high quality brew. (320 characters)

Poured from a bottle into an imperial wheat glass. Beer is yellow slightly dark with a haze to it. Forms a white / off white head of medium to large bubbles that falls away quickly leaving a little lacing on the glass.

Overall the aroma is pretty subdued for a hefeweizen. Slight wheaty feeling to it, some fruity esters but overall not much.

The beer has a medium to low body and is a little watery, or rather wet. The drinkability is really high and its about as refreshing as a beer can be without being water itself. Honestly, I love this beer. There isn't an aftertaste, there is a nice wheaty feel and taste to the beer overall. Its a good beer. Nothing too complex.

I will say that if I ever drink more than 2 of these beers in a night, the next morning I have the worst headache I've ever had. I drink this beer a lot and I've studied this with myself. Maybe there is something in the water they use that does this to me. I still recommend it, just drink one at a time. (980 characters)

Pours straw colored with a huge white head. The aroma is wheat, yeast, banana and some cloves and citrus. The flavor is as expected with lots of bananas, cloves and other spices. You get some citrus as well. Very crisp and drinkable. Medium body and medium-high carbonation. Finishes dry. (288 characters)

Served into a Bruery tulip glass at about 45 degrees.

Pours a hazy straw color in the glass with a thick white froth, excellent retention, and above average lacing. Somewhat sweet aromas of Banana, Biscuits, Clove, & a subtle earthiness follow through as flavors on the palate. As stated before, the beer is slightly sweet with crisp mouthfeel & long finish. Overall a solid beer that is a fantastic value & one that I definitely will recommend. (446 characters)

Poured from a 500 ml. bottle into a weizen glass. Pours a light and hazy dirty lemon in color and offers a rich and lasting white head, throwing off artsy lacing throughout.

Intriguing nose of wheat and banana. A nice yeast sense is everpresent and muddled with just enough sweetness and a hint of clove spice.

Wheat and spice carry to the taste department seamlessly. Bit of citrus accompanies. Nice body and feel from start to finish without being too sweet. Bready in texture and with a well balanced sweet character yielding a solid feel and drink.

Pours hazy golden with a generous white head and a sea of rising bubbles.

Pretty standard nose of estery banana and clove with an added zesty citrus and woody note.

The flavors are very clean with brisk carbonation. Banana and clovey spice are well balanced with each other and lemony citrus. The body is light and refreshing.

On par with some of the better German versions. This should be great when warm weather rolls back around. (436 characters)
