Bottled 7/7/13. Best before 8/7/14.

Pours an almost opaque super dark crimson-brown with a foamy khaki head that fades to nothing. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, slight cocoa, slight caramel, and some metallic aromas. Taste is much the same with sweet dark grains and cocoa powder flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a poor beer that tastes more like a super sweet chocolate and grain flavored soda than beer in my opinion. (606 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Look – light golden, or very light amber color, clear, with steady carbonation and about three fingers’ worth of frothy tannish-colored foam that dissipates somewhat slowly.

Smell – a pale lager type of smell, a little malt heavy though. Maybe some cereal grains thrown in, but seems to be fairly high quality ones.

Taste – a little like a German lager, but less sweet and slightly heartier. There is a tinge of bitterness in the middle of the tasting. Pretty smooth tasting in general though.

Mouthfeel – pretty well balanced, but leans a little more on the watery side.

Overall – not a bad beer at all, but not very intriguing either. (693 characters)

Pours clear and almost black with dense brownish head. So far, so good. Aroma does not keep up to the standards is rather simple and faint roasted malt.

It gets worse in the taste department, if there is any. Flavour is faint toasty malt and towards the end of the glass reminds of fresh flour poured into the beer. Mouthfeel is light-medium with moderate carbonation.

Overall, maybe it seemed a good idea to Baltika to try to emulate a Czech beer, but they clearly have gotten the wrong recipe. (497 characters)
