Interesting architectural building with a stone facade, huge dark windows, tiny porthole windows, a marquis (sp?) listing some notables.

It's not a huge place, but the inside is spaced well and not crowded even though they carry a sizeable selection of beer, wine, hard liquor and soda.

Their beer selection was decent if not mind blowing. There was a cooler of Belgiums and German beers, about 2 or 3 coolers for American craft with English ales mixed in. About 2 coolers had six-packs of Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, Firestone, Stone and Rogue. There were also a few coolers of macros in cases and six-packs. The prices were uniformly on the low side. 22s of Chimay for $5-$6, Alesmith and Bear Republic for under $3, for example.

Although I didn't need any help, all of the employees were very welcoming and friendly.

If you're in the west part of the San Fernando Valley this is a decent place to check out. (921 characters)

Definitely one of the premium places in the San Fernando Valley for spirits, wine and beer. Large selection and somehow will get a few things that no one else has. Great helpful staff. A must stop if in the area. (215 characters)

This is my local bottle shop, but also the best bottle shop I have found in the entire Valley. All beer is sold from refers and their stock behind is also refrigerated. They have a very good selection of American craft brews in all bottle and can formats. They seem to have a very good selection of European beers also, which I am just starting to get into.

They buy their stock in small quantities and their inventory is constantly changing. The downside is that they sell out of rare and popular bottles very quickly even with a one per customer limit. The upside is more important to me: they have never sold me a skunked beer or a beer beyond freshness. Other places certainly have.

They have Thursday night beer tastings which are a great way to discover new styles and brands. Their service is excellent in general, especially Matt who has made great recommendations to me on multiple occasions. (911 characters)

I live waaaay on the other side of the county, but I do have some family in west hills so this is my go to spot when I venture out this far into the valley. Beer selection is top notch - and it seems to last here since it's soo far away from most beer nerds.
Prices are just like any other place in that they are fair and not over priced at all. They also have reasonably priced glassware section with everything from tulips to nonics to tasting glasses.
Hours are great. They open at 9a and 90% of they're brew is cold so you can drink up without cooling down your stuff when you get home. Open late on weekends and they have beer tastings on Thursday
Staff has always been friendly when I come in. I'm not that talkative and they respect that never lookin over me when I'm the last customer in need of that late night run or their first customer stocking up for a good day off
Over the years of me coming here I've been able to pick up some of the best beers around including Pliny and other russian river brews , Parabola, Eclipse50/50, and Hair of the dog (from the wood) series
I'm giving this place a high rating because the flat out deserve it - you can probably find me raving about this place on hard liquor and wine websites too! (1,248 characters)

This is a great bottle shop! Nice variety and always fresh beers. The customers that come in know their beer, and thus the bottles get turned-over quickly. I can always trust them to have the newest releases.

They also have a large selection of wine and spirits. (264 characters)

Matt , the beer guy, knows a lot about beer styles you might be looking for or new ones you haven’t tried yet. He will help you and you will go home happy with the beer he helps you pick out. Trust me.
They always have a great selection of Stone, Lagunitas, Firestone, Mikkeller, Anchorage Brewing, Bootleggers, Ventura Surf, Knee Deep, Belgian beers, etc. just to name a few. Plenty of barrel aged stuff, IPAs, stouts, lagers, etc. whatever the style you want they got it. They do beer tastings on Thursday nights which are very cool.
Beer is ALWAYS cold unlike BevMo or Total Wine. (587 characters)

Helpful staff with a very knowledgeable team.

Atmosphere is very simple and clean. The building is large and cannot be missed. I thought it was a bar before I went inside.

They carry very nice beers, selection is the best in the san fernando valley.

They don't have food here. They carry spirits, wine, beer (esp. craft and European) and cigars.

Prices are pretty good. Last I went Pliny the Elder was going for about $5 per bottle. Way better than most places! They always have discounts on certain beers. (511 characters)

Green Jug is a great bottle shop in the Valley. I stopped by yesterday to check it out again after coming 2 or 3 times in the past. They sell a wide variety of liquor, but the beer is in the back of the store and almost all of it is in coolers. They have a great selection of beer from around the US and from other countries. Some harder to find stuff was available as well (50/50 Eclipse, Fantome). Service was average but that really doesn't matter to me when they have a selection like they do. Overall, this is a great store and I would come here more often if it wasn't so far away. (587 characters)

Probably the best shop in the West Valley. Staff are all very nice and helpful. Ive been here a ton over the years as i grew up in the area, but I just recently started shopping there for my craft fix. Prices are fair. They have some exceptional deals on booze if that is your thing. They have Pliny a lot, but everyone knows when it comes in so it goes fast. I like this store and make it a point to stop by once a week or so.

i just joined their email list so i will see how that enhances my experience with this shop. (521 characters)

I was in here wednesday on one of my random beer trek's. Although you won't find anything old, they had a VERY solid selection. They have an entire wall of colers dedicated to beer as well as isles (At least 15 coolers long). I found some great belgians as well as some firestone 15th. The staff was packed with beer geeks and are SUPER friendly. Also, if you leave your email they go thru the trouble of tracking your purchases. Not for some corporate BS but to notify you when more of those or similar items are in stock. Great people, prices, selection. Go here. (565 characters)

This is the go to beer store in the valley. Matt is the resident beer guy who is quite knowledgeable about beer. He is also willing to put in the extra effort to get in beers that customers request. The selection is very impressive and they usually get in a lot of the special releases. About 95% of the beer is stored in coolers. My only gripe is the bottle cost of certain beers tends to be a little higher then places like total wine. Though they tend to have rarer beer and it stays on the shelf longer then larger corporate stores. All in all this is my go to shop for beer! Always worth a stop, and i never seem to leave empty handed. (640 characters)

This is, as far as I'm concerned, the best beer shop in the Valley. They usually always have a fresh supply of Pliny (they get their shipments on Monday), and a constantly rotating seasonal shelf. All of their beers (with few exceptions) are in the cooler. The staff knows exactly what you are looking for, and can give you an honest answer when it comes to asking about something they don't have. I'm honestly in this store about 3 times a week. Everything is seperated by style (for the most part), and country. It's easy to find what you want. While they may charge a little more for certain beers, they certainly don't gouge. My favorite place to shop for brew. (665 characters)

I live about 2 1/2 miles from The Green Jug. I moved to the area about a year ago and it has quickly become my "go to" bottle shop. Now, admittedly, the San Fernando Valley can be a bit of a beer wasteland, but places like the Jug are going a long way to change that. This is a pretty big store, well lit with an easy to navigate layout. The big key to the store though, the reason that makes it my first stop, is the fact that probably 95% of the beer in the store is stored in their fridges. It's kept properly cold and out of the light from the moment it leaves the distributor's truck until you carry it out to you car. This is key for a store in IPA heaven (aka California). The service is also top notch. I was first introduced to the store when I called to see if they carried Firestone Walker's Parabola, which had its first bottled release right around when I moved to the area. They didn't have any yet, but the gentleman on the phone took down my cell number. About a week later I got a call informing me that two bottles were waiting for me at the store. This is for a first-time customer, not a regular (although that has definitely changed). Not to sound cheesy, but they had me shortly after I answered my phone and said "Hello". Keep up the fine work! (1,267 characters)

Green Jug is about 25 mintutes from me, so I do not get out there too often. However, their service is exceptional for a bottle shop. Why? Rare limited releases. If they know, or are pretty confident they will be getting a case or two of something, and you call and ask, they will put you on a list...a legitimate list. They are not just B.S. Case and point, Abyss 2010. It was way overdue in the SFV, and they called me two months after the release when they finally got some in. Second time, more recently, Abacus. I called if they had any, and they said yes, but what they had was reserved, but they would add me on a list for their next shipment. Same day, a few hours later, they called me back saying they had two bottles free up! Needless to say, I was there that evening, gave them my name, and they brought the two bottles up. Great service, honest, professional, and fair.

The store itself is well stocked for it's size, like a mini total wines. They do tasting events there as well, but I not yet had a chance to attend one. Have picked up some great seasonal, and other limited beers off the shelf here as well, such as Eclipse Evan Williams for example. One of the few gems in the SFV. (1,200 characters)

Green Jug is a good alternative to BevMo as they often carry brews that are a little more difficult to find. They have a lot of brews that come with bottle purchase limitations, so that should give you a clue.

It's really focused as a wine store, but they seem to know what they're doing with some of their beer. A good selection of the year-round items available from Russian River, as well as a good spread of Ommegang.

Fairly decent liquor selection also (and cigars), if that's what you're into.

It's not a one-stop shop, but certainly a place I'll hit up about every month or so to fill in the blanks on some beers on my want list. (639 characters)

[04-16-2011 edit] I have to update this score to reflect how this place keeps getting better. They get tons of stuff from RR (literally everything they bottle), Sculpin now (first in the valley to carry it), they had Eclipse back in December (picked up Elijah Craig 2009, Heaven Hill 2009, and Evan Walker 2010), and just keep getting more and more special stuff as time goes on. I have gotten to know the staff pretty well and they are always just insanely friendly. I am going to miss this store when I move back to Chicago at the end of May. A definite place to stop if you are around area.

---

Started coming here a couple of months ago. Before this I only really went to one other beer store around the area so it was nice to find another close by. In the few short months I have been going to Green Jug their selection has improved quite a bit. They have some decent hard to find beers, along with the other staples one would expect. As of yesterday they still had plenty of Parabola, Cotton, some RR brews, etc. They just got in a few new JP beers also. Essentially, if there is a good beer the distributer has, Green Jug will get it. Matt, the beer guy, is extremely helpful and will give me updates on when certain beers are in stock. I am yet to go to a tasting (was suppose to go this Friday but it looks like I may miss it) but I look forward to going to them in the future. A good beer store (that also has plenty of other types of alcohol). (1,456 characters)
