On-tap at Old Dominion Taphouse inside Dulles International Airport, on to the beer:

An inch of head is served on top this dark golden lager. The foam is semi-creamy and the lacing it leaves is very good. Its aroma is dry, grassy, hay, with a kiss of earthiness. It's a toasty lager, infused with pleasing hay and grassy notes which helps make this beer not only tasty, but a pleasure to drink.

Pours a clear deep gold bordering on pale amber producing a finger of frothy, off-white, shortlived head that leaves little lacing. Aroma is bready with some honey notes & a hint of biscuit, grassy & floral hops. Taste is biscuity & soda cracker malt with toasty hints, lemon, grassy hops, a dominating bitterness & a malty, mineral aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied & a little stiff, moderate-high carbonation, prickly & dry with an astringent aftertaste. Crisp & refreshing.

12 oz bottle

Pours golden-yellow with a 1 inch head. Not very much lacing,( but I think that's consistent with a Dortmunder style? )

I can smell the malt but it's not overpowering

Taste's crisp and light

Perhaps a wee bit too much carbonation...

Overall, I think it is what it was supposed to be. They capture the Dortmunder style nicely...
Pairing this beer with some fresh Puget Sound Oysters made for an enjoyable experience. ( I read that this style of beer works well with shellfish and am happy to report this is true! )

It looks and smells like a refreshing light beer. It tastes about how you would expect, with a light, very slightly hoppy taste. It is not overly strong, but a smooth beer. It has a good after taste.

The Way Beer Is Supposed to Be

My next door neighbor just got a keggerator for his birthday. He gets 1/6 keg, but even then that's a lot for one guy. So he is very generous in sharing. I was looking forward to watching the Super Bowl in his mancave, and this is what was in the keggerator that night.

It was nice.

It's got a nice dark golden color, and it pours a decent head. You can see it bubbling up, and it's a got a great lager taste, not too strong, but definitely not too weak. It's not a heavy beer. It's light enough whereby two guys can make a pretty good dent in a 1/6 keg during a three and a half hour game.

Good showing Delaware. I've tasted airplane peanuts more flavorful than this. It has a generally comparable color and smell. Taste and mouthfeel fail to exceed the expectations set by mainstream breweries, let alone craft shops. Not sure how mature Dominion brewery is, but they have potential (despite my opinion of this particular brew).

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours moderately hazy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off-white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, light caramel, honey, floral, grass, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt, hop, and yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, light caramel, honey, floral, grass, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of light fruits, cracker, biscuit, honey, light caramel, floral, grass, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of malt, hop, and yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/hop balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, clean, and moderately crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good Dortmunder style. Good balance and robustness of flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Appearance: clear blonde in color with a white head.

Smell: malty, lemon, a little metallic scent

Taste: malts upfront then some light lemon hops finish with a light dry metallic tastes.

Mouthfeel: light to medium body. High carbonation. Smooth.

Overall: very drinkable with a good flavor. I think it would be great on a hot day. It's a great take on export lager.

Date tasted: May 10, 2013...
Glassware: pilsner...
Occasion: long/good week of baseball coaching...
Appearance: odd sediment floats in a burnt-orange body; nice cirrus tracings of off-white head...
Aroma: flavorfully thick,, doughy fragrance; sugary with toffee also...
Palate: smooth yet slightly complex mouthfeel; worthwhile to hold before swallowing...
Taste: intensely malty, strong finish with a shortness of hops...sweet and flavorful...
Overall: as Dortmunders go, a solid offering--couples with chips well and yet could stand alone for a night of socializing as well....

A- Golden orange with thick one-finger head.

S- Nothing that really sticks out. Very clean, and inviting smell.

T- Malthy and smooth with almost nothing to complain about. It Is complex and yet not over whelming.

MF- Smooth with little after taste. Light carbonation, won't make you burp too much.

O- I would recommend this beer to anyone who likes malty beers. Well Done!

I don't typically enjoy this style. Or lagers in general. I guess you could call me an ale man.

But this one is fairly nice. The grass tones are a bit high and the carbonation could ease up on my tongue and mouth. But the flavor profile is consistent and hearty. I suppose that hearty aspect may be the pitfall for some, but I can appreciate it.

Poured into a nonic.

This is a bright copper colored brew with a white one finger thick head that fades quickly, but leaves a nice clumpy thin layer covering the brew. Descent lacing around the sides.

Smells of biscuit-like malts, faint herbal, earthy hops.

Tastes of faint herbal hops, biscuit and mild malt. Overall a very mild, but satisfying brew. A good brew to kick back with on a hot summer day.

Miedium light, crisp, smooth and refreshing.

A nice sample of the style - nothing overpowering at all, but a joy to drink. Very crisp, clean and refreshing. I'd destroy 3 or 4 of these easily after mowing the lawn.

Pours a straw yellow with a foamy white head.

The smell is yeasty with a little hops.

The taste is standard lager flavour with a little bit of hops.

Mouth feel was light/medium bodied with medium carbonation.

An above average lager but pretty boring.

Pours a copper color with a quickly dissipating head. Some pretty good carbonation, lots of bubbles ascending in the glass... inviting. Faint biscuity aroma. Taste is light to medium bodied, taste is bready with a touch of hops. Nice clean finish, pretty good mouthfeel. A nice, easy drinking beer with no frills. Won't knock you over with anything unique, but a nice, simple, good beer fitting at the end of a hot day.

The beer is a light coppery color with a light, foamy head. It is pretty well carbonated and has a little bit of yeast in there, so beware if you are not into that.

It smells pleasantly sweet, with a grapefruity scent, probably from Chinook hops.

It is a drier beer, with a light malty aftertaste followed by a biscuity sweet flavor. It tastes sort of like a generic German hefeweizen at first, as it has some sweetness at first, which then devolves into a neutral hoppy-malt taste that is pretty low-key.

Very drinkable, well suited for a refreshing cool one after a hot day.

A- Pours a hazy dark golden yellow with a 1 1/2 finger white head. Carbonation bubbles streaming up the glass.

S- Has a sweet smell to it. Light hops with a caramel malt character. Smells are soft. Some straw notes as well.

T- Starts off sweet malty flavors. Flavors are a blend of honey and floral. The hops come through on the finish with a slight bitterness.

M- Medium body but leaning more to the lighter side.

O- Its not a bad beer. Nothing super fancy but its a decent flavored lager.

Poured into Sam Adams pint glass.

A - Poured slightly hazy golden color with medium head that quickly dissipated leaving light lacing around the glass.

S - Mostly malts with hints of citrus, wheat, hay and floral notes.

T - Malts dominate from the start followed by slight honey sweetness and citrus bitterness with slightly hoppy finish.

M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation.

O - Slightly above average lager. Not a bad try for european lager by american brewery. I would recommend it.

A: the gold color in the glass is very inviting. a deep shade of gold. carbonation can easily be seen through the clear body. big fluffy head dies a bit, but still maintains good retention.

S: hop aroma is very light. a faint earthiness that leads me to believe they are either german or czech. the malt is smooth, rounded and balanced with the light hop aroma. a mild aroma of sulfur.

T: grain is rich and flavorful on the palate. a sort of cerealness to it. reinforced by a healthy dosing of hops. very nicely balanced. similar to the nose, sulfur makes its way on the palate as well. finish is a bit on the dry side with maybe a touch of sweetness peaking its head in there.

M: light body with a carbonation that is slightly more on the light side in my opinion.

D: overall a nice drinking lager from O.D. flavor and aroma is pretty close to what i enjoy in a dortmund. worth grabbing a six pack if you feel like some good, light craft beer.

A: pours a hazy/clear straw gold color into a pilsner glass with a finger of slightly off white head that clings spotty lacing.

S: nice light malt, wheat, citrus, mild honey, and a bit of lemon grass.
T: light, clean and crisp malt and wheat are on the forefront of the tongue. Grassy and a bit of citrus comprise the hop portfolio.

MF: light body, light carbonation, crisp, a bit dry on the end.

O: a great lager, I will be planning on having a lot of this during the summer.

Tried this at Dulles while waiting for my flight.

Arrived with a thin whitish head on a clear honey golden colored beer.

Aroma is a honey sweet caramel malt with a light roasted quality.

Taste is more sweet caramel malts with a lighter roasted quality than the aroma had, but still pretty decent tasting.

A light dry caramel aftertaste, I would really like to try this with a food pairing that would bring out the best in each other, I think I would really enjoy this beer with a meal.

Old Dominion has a nook in Terminal A of the Dulles Airport…..so I certainly had to take advantage! They had the Lager, Ale, Stout, and Pale Ale on tap. I started with the Lager…..It is clear with a nice copper color. Thin white head is present and seems to be lacing nicely. The aroma is mostly non-existent….meaning I do not smell much. The German Pilsner malt used to make the beer is prevalient….it starts the taste…in the middle there is a swath of malt, then it becomes bitter on the pallet after the swallow. The mouthfeel is fine and follows the line of Becks.

Poured into a pint glass. Never had a Dortmunder to my knowledge, so going purely on flavor here, as I have nothing to compare it to.

A - Effervescent golden orange brew which produced a nice head. Decent retention, and some washy lace left behind.

S - Rich, malty aroma. Sweet, and with a roasted quality.

T - Considerably more bitter than I was expecting, and spicy as well. Grassy hops are present but a robust malt body dominates. Quite complex and flavorful for a lager.

M - Crisp light body, clean feel, mild carbonation level.

D - Wow, if this is what a Dortmunder is, then sign me up. As a lager alone, this is one of the most complex yet quaffable ones I've ever encountered. Recommended.

A: Deep gold with a fluffy two-finger white head that persists and leaves great lacing.

S: It's a lager. The biscuity malt and light European hops are present, along with the lightly metalic lager yeast smell.

T: I truly wish more American brewers would investigate this style. The front is well-balanced, with neither malt nor hops winning out until well after mid-palate, where there is a sudden burst of hop flavor. The aftertaste is nicely bitter and quite long.

M: More full-bodied than you would expect from the abv, with effervescent carbonation to kick up the refreshment a notch.

O: This is a classic Dortmunder and if you've never had one you must try it.

A- Golden amber, quarter finger head, disappates quickly with almost no lacing whatsoever.
S- Nutty, toffee, noble hops, and just a touch of a yeasty/musty aroma.
T- A really good malt base to it, toffee, caramel, and just slightly grainy. Noble hops are present, but not quite to the degree noted in the nose.
M- Pretty full and rich body compared to my other limited experiences with this style. I would have appreciated a bit of an increase in the carbonation.
D- An easy drinking lager that goes down quickly and was an inoffensive pairing with corned beef hash. I had another pint in the same sitting so that says something I think. If only they could have done something with that head...
