Notes/Commercial Description:
We use smoked and peated malts to create an intricate malt foundation. Our method of dry hopping with vanilla beans and oak chips pushes the depth of this stout’s flavor spectrum even further.

Served on tap at Cork Cityin Hoboken, NJ

A: Pours an opaque jet black in color. The beer has a two finger tall creamy dark tan head that has great staying power, leaving almost a full finger remaining throughout the drinking of the beer.Significant lacing is observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of dark roasted malts, caramel sweetness, coffee, and some definite oak woodiness.

T: Starts out a little sweet then the roasted/burnt malt flavors kick in. After that there are many different notes in the flavor - caramel, coffee, vanilla, oak, and milk chocolate. Nice complexity to the flavor.

M: Medium to full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: The beer has a very good flavor and is quite enjoyable. This is a good sipping beer and I am glad that I got the chance to try it. Pretty easy to drink.

A - Not a bad looking stout. Deep black cherry body with cranberry highlights. Fine khaki head with nice lace and retention.

S - A potato vinegar off-note ruins the nose, but there's a layer of caramel molasses and gingerbread beneath the funk.

T - Unfortunately the vinegar carries through to the the flavor profile. Astringent vinegar, raisin, and black molasses. The vinegar lingers deep into the aftertaste.

M - medium light body.

O - I bought this bottle at a wegmans, and I'm not sure if anyone else had quality problems with the bottles they bought from there but I wouldn't recommend it.

My notes say I've had this beer a while ago, but they didn't say where or when, nor did they give details on my session. This review applies to a recent tasting on nitro at Prohibition Taproom, Philly, PA.

Dark brown-black pour, opaque, with a small cap of tan head that receded completely after a few minutes. The recipe boasts peated malts and vanilla bean, but I didn't really get either of these items in the aroma or taste. On the nose, a pretty standard stout, dark roasty malts, some milky sweetness, and a vegetal woody quality. About the same on the palate, dark malts, sweet and roasty, oak, earthy hops in the distance, maybe a vague hint of vanilla somewhere in there. Medium mouthfeel, pretty smooth and fairly drinkable. Not what I'd call a go-to or anything. Might be better if the smoke and/or vanilla actually came out from hiding, but overall it's still a solid stout.

Bottle shared at drewone’s tasting.

Bottled on 1/27/12.

Pours a clear dark brown with a tan head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of roasted malt, vanilla bean, and slight cocoa. Taste is the same with a woody aftertaste. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with only a slightly crisp and thin bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty poor stout with some mediocre aromas and flavors and a bad mouthfeel.

Evan, thanks again for these.

Dark brown, opaque with a tight knit finger of light brown lather.

Smell is of roasty malts. Some dark caramel, light peaty note, some coffee, and a hint of bitter chocolate. As I drink I get occasional whiffs of milk chocolate too. Very subdued aroma, though.

Mmm, delectable taste. Dark sweet starts things off, some char kicks in , just the right touch of it, espresso notes, hints of bitter chocolate. End of sip features the sweet cresting into a really tasty blast of the roasty and hop bitter notes. Didn't really get any oak or vanilla.

Quite easy drinking, almost like a milk stout, low carb., clean flavors, excellent finish, and decent complexity.

Really surprised by this one. I love regional beers I have never tried that rock, this one does. You'll love it.

I got this in my beer of the month club that I received as a Christmas present from my wife...

It pours a deep black and is thick as hell. Two fingers of brownish head and quickly dissipates to a thing later that remains. Smells - oak, caramel, vanilla, coffee - smells amazing. The taste matches the smell - a nice and complex flavor profile from start to finish. Creamy malt profile up front balanced with a bitter finish. This is a well crafted stout and that is very complex. You need to try this.

Pours a dark black with amber hues, half of a finger foamy tan head, fades quickly to a thin spotty cap with light lacing.

Aroma of vanilla, smoke, oak and roasted malt.

Taste starts a little sweet with vanilla then the oak, malt and some smoke hits the palate. The oak and smoke become more dominate as the beer warms.

Mouth Feel is medium leaning light body with light carbonation, a little thin, smooth with a slight oak after taste.

Overall a good stout, needs a little more body, however, I enjoyed it a lot more as it warmed.
