Notes/Commercial Description:
We use smoked and peated malts to create an intricate malt foundation. Our method of dry hopping with vanilla beans and oak chips pushes the depth of this stout’s flavor spectrum even further.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass
Born on date: 1/27/12

A: Opaque black with just over 2 fingers width of light khaki colored head, which takes a fair amount of time to dissipate down to a thick film which remains throughout the drink.  Leaves a few sporadic areas of patchy lacing.

S: Roasted malts, chocolate, oak, vanilla, a touch of dark fruits. The bourbon character is very subtle, but nonetheless a very inviting aroma on this one.

T: A big roasted malt character, a nice milk chocolate flavor, vanilla,  a mild degree of coffee, a hint of dark fruits (raisin),  a degree of booze is noted which is surprising considering the relatively low ABV.  It leaves a nice lingering milk chocolate and roasted malt aftertaste.  Pretty tasty but I am getting effectively no bourbon notes, which is disappointing.  Still real good though.

M/D: Silky smooth, carbonation on the low side which I like,  medium to light bodied.  Mouthfeel is a little thin, but not bad for a single stout.  Pretty good drinkability, I could certainly see this as a sessionable stout.

O: Overall, a real good beer.  One of the better single stouts I have had.  Decent complexity in the palate profile, and a great nose. I wish the bourbon characters were more prominent, but still well done, and worth a try especially as a flavorful, sessionable alternative to a big RIS.

Pours a deep brown with a coffee-tan head. Bitter dark malts on the nose along with vanilla, coffee, chocolate and a touch of oak.

Rich creaminess up front with bitter dark malts. Sweet chocolate and caramel round out the edges around mid palate creating a semi-sweet taste which is then cut by a dry oakiness. Its not a lot of oakiness but its just the right amount across the back of the tongue that it creates a nice dry finish and brings the beers flavor ride to rest.

Incredibly complex with more flavors than I can name including touches of smoke and creamy vanilla as well as coffee. The layers of flavor are immense and all compliment each other amazingly. An impressive brew.

The brew is dark brown, almost black, a high tan head, medium lacing and curtains.

Smelling of sweet chocolate, dates and figs.

More chocolate, milk chocolate on chocolate bread, oak chips, some lemon peel.

Medium carbonation, a bit flat, medium body.

Wonder if the oak really improved this one.

I think I just found the perfect stout! Freshness dated to 01/27/12 (bottling date).

Sweet malted aroma with hint of vanilla. Pours deep ruby/brown with a full dark beige head. The head lingers and then laces the glass all the way down to the end. Taste is mildly hopped and lightly sweet from the vanilla. Pleasing to the tounge and palate!
