Notes/Commercial Description:
We use smoked and peated malts to create an intricate malt foundation. Our method of dry hopping with vanilla beans and oak chips pushes the depth of this stout’s flavor spectrum even further.

This one pours dark, dark, brown with shallow, frothy head that isn't going anywhere. Aroma is vanilla and roasted chocolate - taste to match. Smooth, thick mouth-feel. Overall, a very enjoyable beer that I would seek out again. Don't hesitate to give this one a try.

Beautiful roasted, burnt aroma and black as night with slight browning around the edges when held up to light. Glides down your throat like soft silk, temping you with flavors of vanilla oak and dark malt. This beer is sweet like dark chocolate and complex enough to sit and savor, but not overly so. Good stuff Old Dominion!

Pours obsidian, nice light brown head, decent lacing.

Smell is ripe fruit; cherries, raisin. Then the vanilla, a light espresso and hints of cocoa.

Taste is rich and colorful, nice amount of chocolate mixed with vanilla.

Mouthfeel is lighter than expected, as I wasn't aware of the 5.2 abv. Very solid for the alcohol content. There is an element of toned down wateriness, however this beer handles it well. Unusual dry and refreshing finish. Sticky guinness-like mouthfeel.

Drinkability is excellent given the alcohol. A standout brew, quite frankly I wish they distributed here.

Thanks go to jhughes23 for this one.

A: Pours jet black with two fingers of a dirty-cream colored head. Leaves a little lacing as it dissipates.

S: Mostly oak on the nose, with a fair bit of vanilla as well. Bit of cocoa as well. Smells good, but not strong.

T: Lots of coffee up front. A little bit of vanilla, probably from the oak. Roasted barley. Even a little bit of a Coca-Cola taste. Very well balanced with no one taste being too overpowering. Everything levels out.

M: Fair amount of carbonation. Not quite the motor-oil stickiness you get with some stouts. Actually feels fairly light on the palate. Good stuff. Goes down easy.

O: It's good, for what it is. I'd like to try one with a bit more vanilla on it (I think that's a special kind of this one, right?). Very enjoyable beer.
