Notes/Commercial Description:
We use smoked and peated malts to create an intricate malt foundation. Our method of dry hopping with vanilla beans and oak chips pushes the depth of this stout’s flavor spectrum even further.

Thanks go to jhughes23 for this one.

A: Pours jet black with two fingers of a dirty-cream colored head. Leaves a little lacing as it dissipates.

S: Mostly oak on the nose, with a fair bit of vanilla as well. Bit of cocoa as well. Smells good, but not strong.

T: Lots of coffee up front. A little bit of vanilla, probably from the oak. Roasted barley. Even a little bit of a Coca-Cola taste. Very well balanced with no one taste being too overpowering. Everything levels out.

M: Fair amount of carbonation. Not quite the motor-oil stickiness you get with some stouts. Actually feels fairly light on the palate. Good stuff. Goes down easy.

O: It's good, for what it is. I'd like to try one with a bit more vanilla on it (I think that's a special kind of this one, right?). Very enjoyable beer.

Many thanks to IDateTheFormula for sending me this.

A - Pours almost black in color. Held up to the light there is some cola brown that shows at the very edge. The mocha colored head comes to about a quarter inch and sticks around for a minute or two before receding to a thin cap.

S - First and foremost there is alot of vanilla that comes through in the nose. It tends to dominate the other aromas. Some wood starts to pop in midway to end. Finishing things off is a touch of charcoal.

T - Vanilla just drops out when it comes to taste. Smokey and burnt at first. Espresso and wood (could be oak) are right in the middle. Alcohol and a touch of milk chocolate follow through til the end.

M - Lighter in body with a good level of carbonation that works with this beer. Smooth and creamy overall. Finish is pretty dry and doesn't stick around for as long as expected.

D - Drinkability is good. Alcohol is very light and this beer is creamier than most. I could see having a few of these over the course of an evening with no problems. If I had access to this beer I might even have it in my fridge from time to time. The vanilla in the aroma threw me off at first because it was so strong but after a few sips the vanilla is hard to even pick out. Glad I got the chance to try this one.

I got this as an extra in a trade. I'm not much of a stout drinker, but this one was tasty. Super smooth and easy to drink. There is a wonderful oakiness which I know was intended and just a slight hint of vanilla over the roasted malt body. I am impressed...this beer may have just opened a new door for me.
