We use smoked and peated malts to create an intricate malt foundation. Our method of dry hopping with vanilla beans and oak chips pushes the depth of this stout’s flavor spectrum even further.

Pours black with a fluffy tan head that settles down slowly to a creamy band. Nicely sticky lacing. Roasty aroma; hints of chocolate and coffee; toffee and subtle vanilla. Mild woodiness.

The vanilla is much more prominent in the flavor; fairly sweet, with toffee, brown sugar, and caramel notes. Some roasty espresso and charred flavors; moderate bitterness. Again the oak note is fairly mild.

This is not an imperial stout and while it has pretty big flavors the body is medium and the carbonation is definitely on the high side. There's just a little bit of stickiness but the overall feel is almost prickly. As I work my way through the glass it seems to get thinner and a bit watery in terms of the intensity of the flavors rather than the other way around. Doesn't really ever open up and winds up not being particularly complex. Still, a tasty brew for vanilla fans and an inexpensive buy to boot.

12 oz. bottle into a Founders tulip. Bottled 03/14/12. Big thanks to Holland for the extra.

A: Pours a normal black color with a quick dissolving tan head. It settles to a thin ring and leaves some small splotches of lace.

S: Toasted malts, a little chocolate with a touch of oak in the background. The vanilla bean is faint, but you catch a whiff of the sweetness once the glass warms.

T: Bakers chocolate, sharp cocoa some toasted malts and smooth oak make up the main components of the taste. It's mildly sweet, but there really isn't any noticeable vanilla bean flavors.

M: A little thin with some above average carbonation. A little to prickly for me. I would have liked a little carbonation due to the thinness.

O: The taste and nose were solid, but nothing special. The only detractor was the thin body and prickly carb, but for 6.10% you really can't expect a thick body.

A-very dark brown with a thin tab head

S-dark roasted chocolate. Burnt wood. Vanilla beans. Slightly smokey. Good smell. Medium strength.

T-comes in with a decent taste of dark roasted chocolate, burnt oak, and quite a bit of bitterness. It's a decent taste with a bit of plastic bitterness to it. It definitely has some vanilla to it. Good matching after-taste with a but of smoke to it.

M-medium creamy carbonation with a semi-dry finish

O-giving this a 5 because it's got to be the best stout I've had for this price. It has a decent complexity to it seen in some of te higher end aged stouts. It's missing a lot of robustness and serious flavor, but hey that doesn't bother me knowing how cheap I got this.
