We use smoked and peated malts to create an intricate malt foundation. Our method of dry hopping with vanilla beans and oak chips pushes the depth of this stout’s flavor spectrum even further.

I got this in my beer of the month club that I received as a Christmas present from my wife...

It pours a deep black and is thick as hell. Two fingers of brownish head and quickly dissipates to a thing later that remains. Smells - oak, caramel, vanilla, coffee - smells amazing. The taste matches the smell - a nice and complex flavor profile from start to finish. Creamy malt profile up front balanced with a bitter finish. This is a well crafted stout and that is very complex. You need to try this.

Pours a dark black with amber hues, half of a finger foamy tan head, fades quickly to a thin spotty cap with light lacing.

Aroma of vanilla, smoke, oak and roasted malt.

Taste starts a little sweet with vanilla then the oak, malt and some smoke hits the palate. The oak and smoke become more dominate as the beer warms.

Mouth Feel is medium leaning light body with light carbonation, a little thin, smooth with a slight oak after taste.

Overall a good stout, needs a little more body, however, I enjoyed it a lot more as it warmed.

A: pours a nice very dark black color with a slight brown on the edges. Good sized head with lacing that stays to cover the glass for a while. Does not look very thick, but it's not a huge stout.

S: vanilla, wood, sweetness, caramel, and some roasted and smokey malt

T: initially dominated by the vanilla and sweetness, it changes to to a little more brown sugar, oak, and some earthy flavor. Smoke flavor comes out when it warms.

M: I want a thicker stout, but this is good in carbonation and has around a medium body.

O: good beer overall, especially with the complexity over time. It changes even more as it warms. For $10 per 6 pack, you can't miss on this.

thanks to duff27 for the bottle share. Thanks Chris!

reviewed from notes 5/10/12.

Vintage 2010 poured into tulip glass.

Appearance: black bodied beer with a small tan head. Nice lacing with head that drops to a ring around the beer glass.

Smell: Oddly enough salty peanuts; its unmistakeable. Also hints of oak, roast, vanilla, and lite smoke. Lots of things to pick out of this nose.

Taste: Vanilla and oak upfront. Mild roasty and bitter notes. Little bit nutty and salty in the finish.

Mouthfeel: A bit thin for a barrel aged stout. low end of a medium bodied beer with low carbonation. No much heat or booziness found in this brew.

Overall: Solid Ba Imperial Stout that is almost on the borders of being a brown ale with the nuttiness and salty peanut notes in the nose/taste of the brew.

2010 bottle

Initially head is short lived, leaves collar. Nice alcohol legs.

Oaky nose, some vanilla but mostly smells of a tree!

Pretty complex stout here. Vanilla dominates but doesn't overpower. Some oak, "nuttiness".

Mouthfeel is a little thin, kind of distracting. Lower end of spectrum of carbonation due to age I'm guessing.

Slightly oxidized but tasty none the less. Loved the vanilla aspect of this one, pleasant surprise. Thanks mikeyv35.

Laughably lame description of this on the bottle. Anyways...

A. Surprise, it pours black. Very black. With a half finger of light brown head. Lacing is pretty good and head is pretty tightly beaded. Looks really good.

S. Not much. Some mild vanilla and the tiniest hint of chocolate.

T. Some thin vanilla and chocolate. Lots of graininess. A weak sweetness is the dominant note. Seriously, Dominion?

M. Pretty highly carbed for style. Pretty flabby overall.

O. Singularly underwhelming in almost every way. This beer is thin, mostly flavorless, and is way too watery for a robust stout aged with vanilla and oak chips. I wasn't expecting much from Dominion, but I've definitely had better. Woof.

Label says dry hopped with vanilla but all I taste is smokey beer that is as dark as a Guiness. It has a boring label that's cream in color with a brown botlle. If you are into a smokey sharp stout this is a great beer for you. This is smokey whiskey and water.
