An opaque black-brown brew with a fair light brown cover and good lacing. I can smell a mild citrus licorice idea here. There’s a bit of cocoa/charcoal to make for a pleasant but subdued enticement. The taste buds pick up on tart charcoal and tasteful chocolate with a touch of orange/citrus bite. The body is medium-ish but it is a bit aqueous. I get a slightly resinous malt finish that also suggests some earthy juniper brightness. Carbonation is tiny, spritzy stuff that flows smoothly and makes for a very decent stout that could prove pretty sessionable. Recommended.

Special thanks to mdaschaf for this one.

A- Black syrupy pour that is completely opaque. Slight brown highlights around the edges. Finger width dark tan head that settles to thin cap. Lacing is minimal.

S- Wonderful vanilla notes, creamy milk chocolate with roasted coffee tones. The oak makes everything smell nice and smooth. Brown sugar with a slight molasses.

T- Vanilla really stands out, oak taste really smooths everything together. Raisins and milk chocolate with a touch of bitter black coffee and molasses.

M- Thin to medium bodied. Slight carbonation makes this feel lighter than it should. It's somewhere between a stout and a porter.

O- I love this beer... until I felt how thin it is. If this was a touch on the chewier side this would be a world class stout.

5 month old bottle poured into a handmade bulbous pint glass.

Pours deep brown, not quite black. Light pretty visible through the corners. Thin dark tan head forms and disappears about as fast as it appeared.

Smells great. Oak and vanilla come to the nose behind carbonation in a balanced way. Not overpowering.

Tastes wonderful. Slightly sweet, while light in body, which compliments the hints of vanilla well. Not much oak in the flavor, just a tad in the nose. Well carbonated and tasty.

Mouthfeel is nice. An evident 6% in body. Could be a little heavier to bring out some more malt flavor but I can't complain.

Overall, this beer empties very well. It's an interesting balance between a lighter bodied beer and a strong flavor. Highly recommended. Don't let the lack of head and light color throw you off.

A- a dark dark brown almost black. I held a flashlight up to it and it just barely penetrates it. 1 finger head has a mocha color to it. carbonation bubbles trickle from the bottom and a little bit of sediment can be noticed.

S- got some chocolate malts with hints of the oak barrel coming through. it has a very sweet caramel smell to it when you get deeper into it mixed with a nice frothy coffee smell. Very complex. I even get some dark fruit smell in there as it warms up. Kinda reminds me of dark cherries.

T- It's hard to pick out the most up front flavor on this one. It is just as complex as the smell. smokey malts are probably the first thing I taste then the chocolate comes in and finally the caramel mocha coffee finish. The dark roast coffee flavor just sits on your tongue forever almost as a reminder to keep drinking.

M- medium body but very frothy. it just covers you palate. after you swallow it has that coffee effect on the tongue. A bit chalky. kinda gives you a dry feeling but it makes you salivate for more.

O- What a great beer. I am still developing a taste for stouts but this one is great. High marks for complex flavor and smells. Pick one up.

Pours a dark brown, close to black w/ a one finger chocolate head. Decent lacing on my snifter. Nose is that of vanilla, coffee, barley, chocolate- with the vanilla and coffee really coming out front. Very smooth though- not bitter. Taste is a little on the thin side for me. It just lacks that oomph that the best stouts have. It's tasty, just not quite put together how I'd like. Feel is the same- too thin for the style, and a little on the fizzy side. This is probably the weak point of this beer. Overall, a good beer, but not something I'll probably seek out again. Still, it's worth trying if you've never had it. Cheers.
