Notes & Commercial Description:

We use smoked and peated malts to create an intricate malt foundation. Our method of dry hopping with vanilla beans and oak chips pushes the depth of this stout’s flavor spectrum even further.

2013 edition, 12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a beautiful, completely opaque, pitch-black color with an eighth of a finger of caramel-colored head that quickly dissolved away into a thin lacing of foam that partially covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Strong aromas of roasted malt, roasted coffee beans, but not much else, but then again, I’m stuffed up, so there’s that…but other reviewers note aromas of vanilla, roasted nuts, some dark chocolate and stone fruit!

Taste: Great! Massive malt bomb up front, with some great notes of freshly baked pumpernickel bread, some subtle coffee flavors, and quite a bit of vanilla and brown sugar-like sweetness. Delicious!

Mouthfeel: Chewy and very smooth and creamy as there is practically no carbonation to speak of, what-so-ever. With an ABV of 6.1%, there is no presence of alcohol on the palate.

Overall: I really, liked this stout. Love the massive malt presence, blended beautifully with vanilla and brown sugar. I’m certainly getting some more of this.

App: pours a deep brown/burgundy, tan head that resolved quickly.

Smell: subdued aromas, oak, vanilla, kind of horsey wet burlap, earthy woody, some caramel notes but very slight
Taste: malty sweet forward, hint of vanilla and oak, a bit of cocoa and hint of coffee (not strong). Rather sweet throughout with a bit of hoppy crispness and bit for balance. Fairly clean, dry finish
Mouthfeel: surprisingly light body, rather effervescent (for the style) especially as it warms in the mouth.

O: An easy drinking American stout, initially surprised by how light the body was, by the end I found it rather enjoyable. Good Flavor profile, no need for food to accompany this beer.

330ml bottle bought from GapWines, Belfast

Poured pretty much pitch black. Dirty mocha tan head poured small but tight, thick and foamy then faded quite quickly to decent half finger coating... some light clingy lacing...

Aroma - Strong roasted dark chocolate malts mixed with a good dose of freshly ground coffee beans, burnt butter, cola traces, vanilla, some piney / grassy hops, toasted (charred ?) malt loaf, chocolate cookie dough, slight smokiness, cocoa powder...

Taste - Strong charred / sooty notes, bitter black coffee mixed with sweetish milk chocolate and also some dark bitter chocolate... lots of pepperiness, vanilla, light oakiness, light pine, some powdered chocolate, light treacle, grassy and earthy traces, some tobacco smokiness, faint roasted nuttiness...

Feel - Quite smooth and creamy... medium / full bodied.. a very quaffable brew even at 6% - no real trace of the alcohol..

Overall - A very good stout and better than i was expecting... recommended...
