On tap 03/18/05 at the OD Brewpub and from a growler on 03/21/05.
Very dark brown with a full creamy coffee/brown head with decent sheets of tan lace. Very interesting strong roasty coffee malt character with a strong amount of herbal and citrusy hops in both aroma and taste -- very nicely balanced. Medium-full bodied and smooth with a dry bitter finish.
An Interesting beer and very different from a style perspective but not too far from some American Imperial Stouts I've had...

Brought a growler of this home from the brewpub. Extremely dark brown with a big-bubbled frothing head that stuck around for the entire pint. Spicy herbal & citrusy hops balance the big malty nose. Caramel based, nutty with hints of honey and chewy toffee. Big hop kick is unexpeced, but makes this quite a unique experience. Luscious blend of grapefruit, hazelnut, spice, and caramel with a touch of buried peat. Mildly acidic with no trace of alcohol. Moderately bitter and better as it warms. Quite a unique & enjoyable treat - l do love it when Old Dominion experiments.

I had this on tap at the brewpub. It is billed as a hoppy double brown ale. It appears a dark brown with a light tan head that leaves scattered bits of lace on the glass. Aroma is quite interesting as it is filled with a strong floral and earthy hop notes. More in the background is the typical brown ale scents with a light sweet caramel and a touch of nuttiness. Taste is similar with a huge hit of hops up front before the malt. Carmel, Nuttiness and a touch of chocolate were present. Unlike the smell which seemed to meld well the taste seemed a little off like the hops and malts didnt play well together. If it was a little more cohesive it would be great. Body is creamy with a about a medium feel to it. It goes down pretty easy as well and I could have a few. If they tightened the taste up a bit this could be a real winner.
