From the cellar, bottled 01/31/08. Ages really well. Lacking some carbonation but great smell, outstanding flavor and mouthfeel. Worthy of cellar space.

Not a huge fan of the style. I believe barley wine ages ok.. Bottle is from nov iv 13 so hopefully so. Nice to try something different but not really my thing.

A: Ruby with a light haze, medium carbonation and thin foamy head (3/3)
S: Honey and alcohol dominate with a little bit of raisin (8/12)
T: There’s a lot of alcohol in this beer...some darker malt character and little bitterness, but mostly the alcohol. Somewhat weird aftertaste similar to mealyness of a crappy light lager but not nearly as strong, and may reflect shipping from DC more than actual beer quality. (15/20)
M: Very smooth yet creamy mouthfeel. Pretty dry on finish. (5/5)
O: Not a huge fan of this guy. It’ll get you drunk, and it lets you know that. I was hoping for a richer flavor profile given the ABV, but I mostly just got the A. (6/10)

Poured into a sam adams custom glass: color is gold, transparent, great big head, off white in color, great lacing.

Aroma is milder malts, mostly pale style, some honey like notes and some earthy, light pine hops.

Taste is great for a beer this large and of this style, really like the dryer, cleaner malt barleywines: malt is all pale, clean, neutral, not sweet, honey is just enough to promote its presence, good floral presence. Hops are easy, subtle, grassy.

Moutfeel is incredible for this size of beer, great body and flavor presence on the tongue, not too dry and easy on the palate (not cloying).

Overall, wow, this is a great ale and barleywine, very solid flavors and great big beer presence without off flavors or extremes.
