Dominion Baltic Porter is brewed to meet your need for warmth on a cold winter’s night. Hints of licorice, toffee & chocolate mingle with a touch of Rye giving our Porter a full-bodied taste. Raise your mug to those who were bold enough to brave the Baltic!

A-black with a thin tan head

S-extremely faint scent of cinnamon and licorice. So faint. Almost nothing there.

T-comes in with an extremely faint taste of cinnamon, licorice, and maybe chocolate. It just a really faint flavor with a small kick of Belgian spices. Not much going on here. Not much of an after-taste.

M-dry low carbonation with a watery Finish

O-a very boring Baltic porter. The flavors are almost muted. Sometimes with this styles, the basic ingredients are supposed to speak for themselves. If not, sometimes the added ingredients help a lot. This just has nothing going for it at all. I don't recommend it at all.

Dark brown color with only a smidgen of light escaping. Head is robust early but dies quickly. Nose is malty, with that pleasant "stale" flavor associated with porters, as well as tasted and coffee notes.

The flavor is pleasant, with roasted malt, chocolate and coffee notes. Mouthfeel is thin and doesn't really hold a charge, so to speak. More just a porter than anything Baltic. Passable, but not special.

L - Black/Deep brown with a light tan head that dissipates quickly
S - Sweet malts with slight roast. Not getting a lot on the nose
T - Sweet malts and toffee up front with roast on the back end. Maybe a hint of rye, chocolate, and licorice somewhere in the middle.
F - Medium to light bodied with mild carbonation. Overall pretty smooth
O - A decent porter with sweet malty notes with mild roast. Personally I wish it had more roast than sweet with maybe more of an appearance and smell to go with it. Basically a solid porter but nothing that makes it stand out.

This is a local-brewed (for us) Baltic porter, a dark beer that is hard to find compared to stout but related to it.. It pours with nearly no head, lacing is wet and loopy. The upfront flavor is a slightly weak toffee, sweet-sour as you swallow it and then lightly bitter finish--with long but not overpowering hops in the mouth and throat. It's not particularly distinguished, and it's no more drinkable than the cheaper Yuengling Porter. It's good, but it won't knock your dark beer-stout-loving socks off compared to say, Smuttynose. Frankly, I prefer Yuengling for drinkability ONLY because if you are going to have more complexity, it should be interesting. I find this a boring porter. I'd love to find some of the Exit 18 Porter to compare (from across the Bay) but getting anything "exotic" in our tiny state is difficult. I'm hoping to find it and compare, one of these days.

I grabbed a chilled six pack of this Baltic Porter and found that it is a lagered porter which was interesting. It has a 6.8% ABV.

Look-It pours a dark brownish black with little to no head and some drooping wet lacing if any.

Smell-It smells of toffee and sweet bread.

Taste-It tastes of toffee, mocha, cocoa beans, hints of licorice, briny malts, and a similar flavor overtone of an oyster stout. It almost has like a sweet malty start and then a mild bitter finish, but is well-balanced.

Mouthfeel-It feels smooth and moist with a light tingle from the carbonation. It is a bit thin, but finishes like a cola.

Overall-I’d say that this is a great beer. It is a new style to me and I enjoyed it. Cheers!

Quick review. Not a huge porter fan, but this is solid. Relatively low gravity here, makes for an easy-drinking dark beer.
