I haven't seen the regular "pale ale" around lately and do not know if the "hop mountain" is just a new label, or a new beer recipe entirely... that said i am reviewing the hop mountain version

A: the head is pretty sticky though not immensely voluptuous. it has a way of staying around just enough to remind you its there and is going to make your glass look like you drank more than water. the dark amber brown rust color is also welcome as it is more robust looking than many apas.

S: this is not very strong but you get the point that this is a beer with hops in it, there is a mild almost toast like aroma but its softened significantly by the hops. this is a subtle yet balanced aroma.

T: kudos to the balance of this beer, it comes off clean, well balanced, and can easily become a staple easy drinking mildly hoppy beer in my line up. this is an APA and at times i think we forget that that's not SUPPOSED to be an ipa or iipa. the hops add just enough flavor and bitterness to yield a flavorful beer without that being the complete show. the malt comes in and balances the hops rather well creating a beer that while not genre shattering, might just be genre defining in its balance and simplicity. a def try and surprise from dominion

The Hop Mountain from Old Dominion is a GOOD pale ale. This pale ale is more English style leaning...but very tasty. The beer poured a nic clear amber with thin white head that is leaving a fine lace. The acent carries fresh hop with a slight citrus flare. The taste is a nicely balanced beer between sweet malt and bitter, with slight citrus, hop. The mouthfeel is between light and medoum body with good carbonation. Overall this is a solid offering from old dominion....nice job!
