12 oz bottle bottled on 10/30/2003, served at cellar temp in a pint glass.
Appearance: Jet black topped by a tan head composed of eensy-weensy bubbles. Head recedes to a film and then just a ring. Bits of lacing are left on the glass.
Smell: Prominent coffee aromas with pruny undertones. Light bits of cocoa and hops. Intriguing, but not wowing.
Taste: Bittersweet carob and coffee tastes. Prune-like sweetness follows. Just a titch sour.
Mouthfeel: Solid medium body with nice lingering aftertastes.
Drinkability: This is a good stout, but wow does it become phenomenal after some judicious aging in an oak barrel! Nice and hearty, glad to have it be my local stout.

Vintage 2010
Appearance: It pours a black with a half inch of tan head that dissipates quickly.
Smell: The smell of oak and a bit of vanilla dominate this beers aroma.
Taste: This is not the beer to age I got this beer in a trade or bif I forget which but now I wish I drank this beer when I got it. Most of the flavor has left this beer for a better place, you get a little of the oak and very little malt but rather disappointing.
Mouthfeel: This beer taste thin and watery like the taste rather disappointing.

A - Black, with amber highlights and seemingly good clarity. One finger of light brown head settles at a reasonable pace and leaves little lace.
S - Sweet and malty with weak coffee notes. Chocolate, caramel, nutty malt, and a hint of pine hop aroma.
T - Mocha-like roasted grain flavors of light chocolate and coffee. Nutty malt in the middle and enough grain bitterness in the finish to balance.
M - A smooth and creamy body, moderate carbonation, and a sweet finish.
D - This is a nice, drinkable sweet stout. It has a robust, nutty malt character and it is well balanced.

Enjoyed served in a pint glass last evening at Frisco's Burrito. Poured dark brown, almost black, with a dark tan head with everlasting qualities and picture perfect lacing. Faint aroma with some bitter coffee whiffs, but not much else.
Lighter medium bodied brew that had a hefty flavor. Had a good dose of bitter espresso flavor, but had a richness of dark milk chocolate that smoothed it all out. Just enough to where you would call this "complex."
Enjoyed this one very much. Yes, it could have a heftier mouthfeel, but I think that would detract you from pounding more. Extremely drinkable, especially on a cold evening.

Part of the Poitras/VA 2004 vacation.
Enjoyed on tap at Old Dominion brewpub, Ashburn, VA
Pint glass presentation. Creamy tan 1/2" head over a dark brown brew, and laced excellently. Strong dark malts nose, with a similar taste, exhibiting a crisp but subtle hops bite at the end of the tasting experience. Mouthfeel and drinkability excellent.

This stout could use some roasted barley. With a near-white head, very little in the way of roasted quality in the nose or taste, and a very thin body, this reminds me of a weak porter with a slight coffee aroma.
I'm also picking up a semi-sour, odd house flavor from these Dominion beers. I'd like to try their oak barrel stout, but the rest of their beers I've had have been merely average.

Appearance: deep and dark, practically black, under a short filmy brownish head. Aroma: espresso bitterness marks the olfactory aura, joined by pitch and tar and a bit of anise, but mildly.
Taste: full-bodied, rich, malty, a bit sweet, but also with sufficient bitterness, a tiny touch of hops. Dark, complex and tasty, yes, but never quitting with the bitter, roasty feel.
Could've done with some more in the mouthfeel, though, some power on the palate, a fling with creamy texture, or a dalliance with lush malt. This stout unfortunately falls short, in terms of what I'm yearning for with this style, more fruity, too, would be nice, but a greater cocoa feel is greatly missing. I've got to say I'm a bit disappointed in this stout, and I'm glad I've got some preferable versions handy in the fridge.
Thanks, though, to ManekiNeko for letting me try it on for size.

This was either a bad batch or didn't age well for nine months in the beerator.
Dominion Stout poured a deep black with a shallow tan head. The nose is of butterscotch and a touch of lemon. There is a big mouthfeel, but sadly all the butterscotch in the nose also plays out in the taste. The toasted malts come out toward the end for a pleasant finish trying to make up for a bad start.

Very good looking dark ruby body, little to no head though. Roasted pleasant smell with a hint of almond.
Taste is a little astringent, which in my book is a BIG no-no in a stout, it does have a little of the roasted coffee taste but it fades too quickly. very little aftertaste and pretty thin for a stout, little to no creamyness and zero lace.
This is a small beer with none of the presense about it a stout should have, over all an ok beer but a poor stout.

Pours black with a light but sticky head, aroma is smokey and coffeeish.I think the flavor was a little drier than sweet in my opinion with some smokiness in the finish.Had this on tap at the Drafting Room in Spring House.Went pretty well with the chili rubbed sirloin but I think there are better stouts readily available out there.

Fairly black but takes on a dark ruby color when help up to the light. There's a nice of white creamy head. Notes of of sweetened roasted coffee in the aroma, along with some grainy maltiness. Very rich smelling, this would make a great dessert. The taste explodes with chocolate malted milkshake. Some mild hop bitterness detected to balance out the sweetness. Very smooth silky mouthfeel and very drinkable for a stout. This is one of those beers that could go well with a bowl of cap'n crunch. This is probably the best plain stout i've had. There are no unwelcome overpowering fruity tastes, just malted milk, chocolate, coffee, & some balancing hops. Dominion is becoming a new favorite.

Dark black color. Medium head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. A light to medium bodied stout. Roasted malts with chocolate and coffee flavors, a touch sweet. Spicy hops. A touch watery, but not to bad. A very drinkable stout. Mouthfeel is round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, touch of lingering coffee.

Presentation: 12oz. amber bottle. Bottled 2/6/03.
Appearance: A very, very dark ruby red appearance, barely allowing light to pass through even when held up to the light. Maple sugar-colored head sparsely laces the glass.
Smell: Hmmm....way, way too "smoky" for me. Lots of smoke-filled aromas here, including chocolate, coffee, and nuts.
Taste: Unfortunately, the smell translates into the flavor. A smoky assortment of chocolate and coffee. Flavor was a little on the thin side. A harsh ash-like flavor remains on the palate.
Mouthfeel: A medium body. Scores well for the smooth and creamy profile.
Drinkability: I've certainly had better stouts and this one was rather hard to finish. Between the smoky flavor and thin taste, I was tempted to give a 2.5 here. Perhaps it is time for the Stone Imperial Stout I've been cellaring to save the day.

Pours black with moderate head leaving only a little lace. Nose is chocolate and roasted malts. Seems to be medium bodied but has some watery feel to it. Starts sweet, finishes hoppy and slightly bitter. There are better stouts. Good label but no UPC tag??

Poured a very dark brown, not quite black, and looked to have a somewhat thin consistency. Not much head either, very low carbonation. The aroma however is a little more impressive, smokey, burnt toffee, mocha, and roasted grain were pretty strong, definetely got my mouth watering. The taste is also very roasted tasting, and finishes with a nice hop bitterness. The low carbonation helps to provide a smoother mouthfeel, not as watery as I had expected. Not the greatest, but it still had some very good aspects.

Deep and dark in color. Smallish grey/tan head. Head was quite small actually. OK appearance. Nose - Creamy sweet, almost sugary. Very little roast character. Some chocolate. Overall the nose was very restrained. Not much of anything really jumping out at you.
Taste - My first and most lasting impression - SWEET. Lots of sugary, lactose-like sweetness. Reminded me very much of a cream or milk stout. In fact that is what I would call it. In the taste I detected some serious chocolate notes and a lot of malt. Their was just a hint of roasted malt. Hops were total non players. No aroma, no flavor from hops.
Mouthfeel was quite nice. Sort of clingy and velvety. Carbonation was low. Finish was sweet, clean and malty.
Overall, I was quite fond of this stout. I must admit, heavily roasted stouts are not really my thing. I prefer them to be on the smoother-sweeter side and this guy fit that bill to a tee. A lighter, easier type of stout that would be a good starter for someone who is not fond of the heavily roasted variety.
