12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a beautiful golden-copper, amber color with a half of a finger of white head that quickly dissolved into a thin halo of foam that gripped the sides of the glass

Aroma: Very malty and very bready, like freshly baked sourdough or French baguettes. I get notes of black pepper, and caramel, as well as floral notes of clover and honey.

Taste: Very similar to the beer’s aroma. Very malty and bready up front, with notes of black pepper, caramel, salted butter, honey, all beautifully balanced with some hoppy bitterness at the finish. Delicious!

Mouthfeel: Medium and creamy with some good carbonation to tickle the taste buds. With an ABV of 5.8%, there is no presence of alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is an excellent American version of an Oktoberfest beer. Beautifully crafted, beautifully balanced, beautifully flavored, this is one of my favorite Oktoberfest beers. I love it!

First review!

A - Katie really liked the color, thought it was a nice amber. This is our first tasting, so we didn't really check out the pour. 4 was compromise, I thought it looked a little flat.

S - I thought it had a slightly... old smell? Didn't really like the smell at all. Katie felt it had a toasty smell, but very faint.

T - It wasn't a great taste, just slightly better than ok. Probably could've gone lower here.

M - It was slightly under-carbonated which Katie didn't like. I thought it was pretty smooth, but otherwise, not a great mouthfeel

O - Very average. I was feeling a bit lower, but Katie thought it was a nice middle ground for us to rate future beers against.

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date.

Look: Thin frothing, rudy amber hue

Smell: Mild sweetness, grassy, malty breadiness, mild herbal hop, toasted bread

Taste: Decent smoothness, clean graininess, fresh bread, toasted grain, full-on maltiness, subtle herbal hops flavor, balancing hop bitterness, bread crust finish, ends dry

A good O-fest, hits all of the right buttons but does not exactly wow. Still a good rendition to check out.

12oz bottle, glass jar, bottled 8/17/13.

It's a nice, deep orange amber. The head is loose bubbles and doesn't have much staying power.

Aroma is slightly grainy and lager-like; barely there.

It's a bit nutty with a little of the herbal numbing noble hop in the tail end. Dry cracker yeast. There isn't an abundance of flavor either.

Typical lager lightness and effervescence.

My overall impression is typical low-flavor lager with more caramel or maybe Munich malt added.
