A: Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a little red tint. A two finger head forms on top, made up of small bubbles. Decent retention, leaving behind ringlets of thin lacing.

S: Toasted grain and bready malt with a little bit of citrus mixed in. A little bit of grass and a floral component.

T: Some bready malt initially, a little bit of citrus follows - some lemon peel, grass, and floral hops. Some light fruit as well - banana.

M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Would not guess it was 7.5%.

O: Solid beer, not spectacular, but pretty good. Would drink again.

Dominion's Big Thaw Bock pours a mostly clear deep-gold body beneath a short head of creamy antique-white foam. The head retention and lacing are average.

In the nose it displays a clean, straightforward maltiness and floral hops. It's bright and fresh and welcoming.

The flavor delivers more of what the aroma promised. It's golden pilsner malt is straight-forward and just a touch sweet, balanced by a solid bitterness, and threaded through with floral, spicy, and gently herbal hops. It's perfectly balanced, and finishes dry with a light bit of residual lingering malt and hop.

Helles bock can sometimes be overdone, either swaying too much towards the malt or too much towards the hops, but this one nails it; and on top of that the bitterness level is perfectly matched against the malt that's there. Very drinkable!

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a tan color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts and hops. Taste is a bit hoppy for the style, malts are there, well balanced, a touch of bitterness at the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.

Pours pale golden yellow with thin, white, fizzy head. Plenty of carbonation and pretty good head retention. Aroma is very grainy and bready with hints of fruity hop notes. Lots of malt flavor, earthy and strong. Bread and grain with a slight touch of caramel. No hop presence. Nice sweetness and full body. A fine beer but I felt the flavor could have used something to brighten it up a bit.

I had this on-tap at the dulles taproom.

Appearance: pours a golden clear amber with a finger of fluffy off white head and good retention.

Smell: spiice and fruit, sweet malt and some banana.

Taste: spice and banana, quite sweet from the grain, sweet spice in the finish.

Mouthfeel: medium body with fluffy carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: the banana was nice, good and i would have it again.

First surprise is not many reviews as this ones been on the shelf since January. Second it's its a damn drinkable bock!

A - Looks like a bock it's a bit lighter amber color with a 1/4 inch of tan head.

S - Smells of citrus hops, mild malts mostly caramel and some roast.

T - Taste is just a slightly hoppier than your average day bock but it's damn good overall.

M - Puzzled how it's almost 8% when I figured it was 5 or even 6%. Little alcohol and a medium body.

Overall not something I would seek out again but not a bad crafted bock. Heck even 4 months lager delivering a good head!

Enjoyed this 12oz bottle out of a large snifter glass.

A: Pure orange hue with a HUGE 3-finger white head that lasts forever leaving a great trail all the way down the glass. The head ends in a very persistent thick lace.

S: Hoppy floral aroma with a malty bock background.

T: Slightly sweet pilsner malt taste with a hoppy floral mix. Starts off crisp and finishes slightly dry.

M: Slighty strong and boozy. Medium body and heavy carbonation

O: This was a really good Maibock. It was a great balance between the hops and malt and had enough alcohol to make it interesting.

Appearance: pours a orange yellow color with a one inch head that falls to a spotty foam.

Smell: caramel sweetness and a bit of hop bitterness.

Taste: moderate malt base with caramel, light fruit sweetness, a bit of earthiness, and a mild hop presence.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Lightly crisp to start, smooth and a bit dry at the finish. Short lasting aftertaste.

Overall: a nice bock beer that has enough malty goodness to keep it interesting. Worthy of a try.

Poured into a pint glass from a bottle. Peculiar thing was that the bottle was a twist-off but the caps weren't....weird. Purchased from Harris Teeter, Washington DC.

Appearance: Fine, golden color with nice medium head that rose about two inches and stuck around for a good while.

Smell: Not much going on here; maybe some orange peel mixed with some vague malt notes.

Taste: Honestly a little bland. The flavor intensity is not where it should be in respect to the alcoholic content and therefore taste a little minerally. Almost like drinking a Pelegrino with vodka.

Mouthfeel: A little more alcoholic than expected which comes through on the mouthfeel.

Overall an ok beer but I would not purchase again. Too many other great choices.

Poured from 12oz bottle (acquired on the day my local beer shop received them on 2/5/2011) into a pint glass. Pours a clear amber/golden hue along with a huge head that fizzles down to a half inch size, but continues leaving nice laces that linger throughout the entire drinking session. The nose picks up mild floral and citrusy aroma along with the authentic German Noble hops (somewhat bitter herbal), which show its true colors here. I am also picking up pine-y, green apples, sweet but toasty malts, and bitter hop activity in the taste. The Big Thaw is classified as a medium-bodied brew with a creamy mouthfeel and it hides the 7.5% abv pretty well making it a very interesting (and dangerously drinkable) Maibock beer for the Spring season.

12oz bottle poured into HotD tulip.

A- Light, clear orange with a thick, large bubbled off-white head.

S- citrus and sweet fruit.

T- Sweet malts and wheat.

D- A touch sticky, but pretty smooth.

O- My first try with Dominion. Not bad, maibock isn't my favorite, this is a decent brew.
