22oz bomber featuring.... a bomber
Bottling Date: July 12

eyes...
no head to speak of even when I got more aggressive with the pour, good amount of carbonation is a sign of hope though, lots of bubbles swirling about my DFH cauldron, legs are good on this one which makes sense due to the ABV here, slightly burnt orange hue, pretty standard fare here.

nose...
major citrus hops with mostly dripping orange, sweet malty tone but there is a detectable alcohol in the nose, on a quick whiff the hops really throw a blanket over everything and smell awesome but take an extra second to pick up the rest.

taste etc...
for all those bubbles the carbonation disappears and this is remarkably thin. in some DIPAs the syrupy hops mask this and there is some of that here but it doesn't quite get there. the sip starts off with the nice orange-y hop flavor and then nothingness and then some real harsh bitterness.
after a few sips you normalize more to the flavor, but still my initial take remains, this is purely hop bomb city with no furry edges. the hop bit is very bracing and the ABV is quite noticeable.

verdict...
A really strong use of high alpha hops. This is hard to keep going with, maybe split among friends, this is a bit rough around the edges. If an unabashed hop nuke is your thing, give this a try.

music: cro mags "best wishes"

22oz brown bomber.

LOOK: Cloudy amber hue, thin sticky lace

SMELL: Mandarin oranges, caramel, rose water, grassy, estery

TASTE: Creamy, slick, fullish body, very bitter, faintly astringent, citrus overload, rind, pith, zest, warming alcohol, bittersweet finish

A bit off kilter, could be considered a hoppy Barleywine. Regardless, flavorful enough and fun enough to make me want to take another sip.

Served: straight out of the bottle...I know...wasn't expecting much.

Appearance: I can't rate this. I drank it from the bottle. Kudos for using a brown bottle though.

Aroma: quite nice. Unexpected from a beer with a screw top. It's defiantly all hops. Lets see if the taste matches.

Taste: wonderful. Fresh hops, citrus and some malts. The high gravity is masked. Always a plus.

Mouthfeel: it is a bit too carbonated, but that's ok. One should take their time savoring this one.

Overall: good double IPA. Very true to the name. Nice label. Don't underestimate the screw top.

This is a deep, richly honeyed sort of amber color, fairly thick in the middle and opaque, for the most part, with some cloudiness to it. The head is a creamy yellow-tinted one, almost a full finger's height with adequate lace sticking to the glass.
Lots of citrus and a boozy note hit the nostrils, an impression of triple sec before some candied orange peel and powdered sugar sweetness transitions to more of a floral and perfume note.
Hops show up a little more strongly in the flavor; it's not an exceptionally hoppy beer, particularly for the style, but it isn't weak. It works in such a way that it does find balance without being overly malty. Oddly, it's a beer that someone who doesn't like hoppy beers may actually like, but it doesn't give up the bitterness. There's a ton of overall citrus character, but the zest (rind) and pith show quite a bit.
The body is medium, fairly creamy and plenty crisp, going ever so slightly astringent just on the end.

Had on tap at Brews by the Bay.

A: Pours a copper/amber color with a small fizzy head with decent retention. Little whisps of lacing form on the glass.

S: Some grapefruit, caramel, brown sguar, and some faint pine. Slightly sweet, not as hoppy as I thought it might be.

T: More grapefruit and citrus with some pine coming during the middle. There is some more caramelized malt, a touch more than I was hoping for.

M: Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. Abv was well hidden for 10%.

O: A pretty good effort, a little sweeter than I usually go for in a DIPA, would have liked to have been a bit more bitter. Will grab a bottle when I see it and give another shot and update if needed.

Pours dark orange with a minimal head. The smell has a very nice cirrus and hop blend which instantly gave me high hopes this was a Damond in the rough. BUT, the smell unfortunately was the best part of the beer. Not all that much citrus or hops present. I kept smelling and tasting cause it almost seems impossible for something to smell this hoppy and citrusy to have such a bland taste. Nothing great here , but to be fair, nothing really bad either. Just sort of middle of the road double IPA that I would only get if the beer menu lacked any other kind of crafts. Not worth seeking out.
