12oz bottle into Willybecher Glass
A: Amberish brew blushing with a reddish tint, not completely translucent, but far from opaque. One finger of bright white head sat on the shoulders of this moderately carbonated beer for a short spell. Some lacing, but weak – body looks pretty light
S: Syrupy cherry up front – a sweet smelling fusion of black cherry and a more artificial aroma of maraschino. Hints of honey and dark fruits, plums, prunes. No bitterness on the nose, but pilsner style malts are evident in the background.
T: Diluted reiteration of the nose. Blended cherry that comes off slightly fabricated. Still picking up some subtler sweetness possibly provided by apricot, plum and other assorted darker fruits. Light malty character compensates for the lacking middle mouth, but is somewhat musty. Honey and maraschino cherry syrup pull in the rear and bring the finish down into a grainy, suppressed bready conclusion.
M: Moderate carbonation, somewhat crisp, light body on the tongue – wouldn’t be hard to straight up chug this beer.
O: To be quite honest this beer is very reminiscent of Lionshead, with a bit more character. Cherry flavor is apparent but doesn’t strike me as au naturale. Beer is pretty crisp and relatively easy to drink, not a fan of the malt profile. Not really a fan, it’s not bringing enough umphh.
