This one was my beer of choice all through college. Thought I would order this one with my dinner the other night. Had a Widmer first and wanted to really do an old school Hef session.
Pyramid pours a hazy golden color that is a little bit watery in texture. The smell is a little bit citrus filled, but does not open up as much as I would like it to. The taste is just wheat, a little bit of spice and mostly citrus tones. This is the classic American Hef.
The mouthfeel is smooth and has a medium carbonation level. Goes down awfully nice on a hot summer day.
This beer is great for crowds. It works for all sorts of people and for the novice beer drinker or non-beer drinker, they will find it nice to add a lemon to the beer to amp up the citrus tones. For many BA's this is a travesty, but it really does make the beer more user friendly for the summer BBQ with a mixed crowd.

Had it on tap first and was a hit. Of course they had the gigantic orange slice wedged onto the glass and I knocked it in, on purpose. I was sold. Smooth, flavorful, not over citrusy, good hefeweizen. After a couple I stopped at the local mart and was surprised they had them in six pack form. Got them home, they were not cold enough so I chilled them. Finally cracked one open, poured it into a glass, took a drink and... Not even close. Some beers should never be bottled but left in draught form only and this is one. Not bad hefeweizen at all but if you've had it in draught, it's not the same.

Odor: Acidic Citrus, Wheat with a faint smell of banana.
Pour: Hazy Orange, Decent head that dissipates to nothing, No lace at all. Served in a tulip pint glass
Taste: Heavy Wheat taste with a faint dry citrus after taste. Light carbonation but enough that it dries out your mouth. Low hops, Light body. Not very complex, More acidic than creamy which tells me that the citrus flavor is coming from additives rather than the fermented wheat.
Mediocre beer, I don't believe this is the best hefeweizen I've ever had, but an ok sample of the style. I can't say I'm a big fan of Pyramid Brewery in general. I've had 2 of their beers today and neither were awe inspiring, just ok. For the price, I've had common domestics that I enjoyed more.
