Pyramid Amber Weizen
12 oz bottle
Moderate pour in a shaker
Recent brewing(?), enjoyed 07/07

Poured a murky brown with an average frothy somewhat lasting head.

Smelt of light to moderate toasted wheat.

Taste was upfront moderate sweet caramel and light bitter toasted malt followed by a light bitter yeasty and toasted malt on a short finish.

Palate was light to medium bodied, slightly oily on a dry finish, lively carbonated and lightly astringent.

Overall, a light mellow dark weizen that seems slightly bland and falls a bit short.

Poured hazy dark amber with a moderate white head that diminished quickly with minimaql lacing. Moderate balanced sweet hoppy aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Average balanced sweet malt flavor with a small bitter finish of average duration.

Served in a bottle poured into a pint glass.

A- Nice amber coloring with just a tad bit of head.

S- Very yeast like scent with just a slight, slight hops.

T- Very smooth, crisp taste. Somewhat hoppy, but not very much.

M- Very smooth, not very bitter, dry finish.

D- Very drinkable, very smooth. Can definitely drink as a session beer.

Overall this beer is much better than I thought it would be from the scent. Very smooth, but not as hoppy as I would like it to be. A tad watery and bland though.

I dunno what everyone is complaining about, but I've never had a beer of this style so I'm no pro.

A- Dark caramel with a hint of copper rod. Some sediment and a hazy transluscency. Weak tan head

S- Smell is OK but I can see how this would turn some people off. banana/clove esters along with a sweet malt backbone.

T- Taste is like the smell but the caramel malt is more dominant and some dark fruit flavors make an appearance. Label says there are nugget hops, but I don't really get a hoppy feel except maybe in the aftertaste.

M- Feels great, I love the feel of unfiltered beer. Moderate body and smooth carbonation

D- Drinks good but I feel the ABV% should be higher

Reviewed 11/17/2005 (bottle):

Pours with a big head that is slightly off-white. Has an aroma which contains hops, and a nice wheat smell, but it's not a very strong aroma. Has a soft carbonated mouthfeel. An above average beer, but not very flavorful.

Dark cherry wood wheat color with a great, translucent orangey amber when held to the light. No head after a good pour, but a nice strong, single coulumn of bubbles rises to the top of the brew. Lots of wheat in the nose with the hops giving a spiced note to the aroma. Strong yeast gives the taste a dark fruity start. The middle has lightly roasted wheat and malt grains with just a dash of fresh spices from he hops. Chewy, yeasty palate finihes a bit talcy.

Pours a thick rich amber color with a good thick head. Swirled the last half inch in the bottle to obtain the yeast and poured into the glass. The yeast was suspended throughout the glass creating a wonderful effect. Decent aroma of caramel malts. Smooth and full mouthfeel complimented by a nice overall flavor and nice finish. I like the concept of an amber weizen and this brew seemed to capture the concept rather well.

Interesting beer. Pours an absolutely gorgeous amber color made that way because you expect this color from a pale ale or amber ale. A Hefe of this color is rare and it really gets you into the beer before you drink. Unfortunately I didn't find much else to be spectacular here. I tried hard to get some unique aroma out of this beer, but it pretty much just smelled like ... well ... beer. Little characteristic hefe aroma here. Maybe a hint of sweet bananas, or that just could be malt, no hop aroma. Flavor was nothing too interesting. Little to no hop flavor, a tad flavor of banana and nilla wafer cookie. On a very positive note this beer is crisp, clean and refreshing. It's unoffensive and not cloying at all (I find way too many hefes are too sweet for me).

So this is an average tasting beer that is refreshing and drinkable. Good enough for the most, beer geeks may not appreciate the lack of complex flavors.

Sampled on draft in Redmond Wa.

The color was a hazy golden orange.
An average head that left lots of lacing.

A slight spice and a hint of earthy grain...not much aroma.

An average tasting Heffe....not much in wheat.

Mouthfeel was good...slight carbonation just wish there was more taste.

A - Appears to lie between orange and gold in color. Head, retention, and lacing were all spot on for average.

S - Sweet caramel aromas come to the nose first. The sweetness is followed by some spicy grain and yeast. A very light smell wheat shows up in the background.

T - Taste follows smell. Caramel comes through up front. Midway there is some spiciness and yeast / bread. The very end has what I have to guess as wheat. It is so far removed from the flavor that it is hard to pinpoint exactly.

M - Light bodied with good carbonation. Sweet with a very, very mild bitter finish.

D - Drinkability is good. I could have several of these with no problem. The only thing holding it back was a lack of perceptible wheat.

Appearance: It's slightly hazy and a dark amber color. Head is about a finger and a half. Retention was short and virtually no lacing lined the glass.

Smell: Light on the nose is an understatement in this instance. There's a bit of a grainy smell to it. Very light caramel malts are present. That's about it.

Taste: It's primarily malty and sweet. Very light dark fruit flavors are present. It is grainy with just a slight hop twist toward the end.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability: It's light bodied. Carbonation is okay. It's relatively smooth and it goes downeasy enough. But, it's bland flavor severly limits drinkability. Overall, it's very average. I wouldn't seek it out.

12 oz. bottle,

A: Pours a cloudy red, with little to no head, dissapointing as the American wheat genre usually has big, billowy heads. A below average looking beer.

S: Smells heavily of malt, some root beer, and a hint of cherry, fruit.

T: Tastes spicy on the first taste, but then that backs up to reveal a nice pleasant malty flavour, with a bit of pasta al dente, and a bit of dark fruit, plum especially.

S: Smooth, the carbonation shows up in the mouthfeel even though it isn't there visually, a little to light-bodied for my tastes though, even though this is a wheat beer.

D: Nice drinkability for a wheat beer, a nice surprise since I tend to find their regular hefe mediocre. Probably the 2nd best tasting beer I've had from them, No. 1 being Snow Cap.

Served from bottle into standard pint glass.

Pours a slightly hazy basic copper color. Smallish beige head dissipates almost immediately, leaving pretty much no lace.

Aroma is caramel, with a light wheat undertone. Somewhat sweet.

Flavor is faintly sweet, with some mild wheat. At first I thought it had some sweetness along the lines of a hard candy, but after the first sip it was basically gone. Not much there honestly. What exactly makes this a "dark" wheat ???? Tastes like a basic generic american wheat ale.

Medium body, moderate carbonation. Balance seems ok, but let's be honest...with no taste and no character, how hard could it really be to balance ? Seems like any other wheat beer out there...certainly nothing distinguishing about this one. Won't be buying this again.

Goofy orange yellow brown color. Very cloudy yeast and wheat goodness. Medium off-white creamy head.

Wheat tart powdery and slightly creamy with yeast goodness.

Creamy wheat beer – tart wheat and yeast on the tongue. Sweet malt with really light hop and some bitterness. Overall quite light. Finishes mostly clean with a little bitterness.

Mild carbonation. Medium-light to medium body.

Okay I say.

Appearance- Transluscent amber/orange. Looks nice. The head is a nice two finger off-white affair that settles down reasonably quickly. Leaves no lacing.

Aroma- Some malt sweetness with just a hint of earthiness. A hint of breadiness and citrus. You really have to look for those 2 tho.

Taste- Not much taste at all. You can definately taste the wheat, but there just is not much else there. After the complexity of the smell, the taste is a bit dissapointing.

Mouthfeel- Light to medium body. Over-carbonated. This may explain the lack of taste. The over-carbonation kills your taste-buds.

Drinkability- I'll finish this one, but I'm glad I didn't buy a sixer.

12oz bottle into pint glass.

Murky dark amber appearance with a light tan thin head that doesn't last long.

Hints of sweet brown sugar from a long wort boil. Bits of a wheat base.

Thin maltiness with a little bit of caramel flavor. Not much else. The finish is mostly clean with a bit of grain flavor.

Same as their Hefewezien, almost tasteless and not very drinkable.

This beer was good except for the head which faded fairly quickly and wasn't anything to write home about. Thick wheaty and caramel malt flavor. Not very much bitterness. Comes out on the nose fairly nicely. Good crispness and nice drinkability. Worth a try. Not complex, but it tasted great. Very sweet. For malty wheat beer lovers.

Appearance changes a lot with from a pint glass to a weizen glass. This beer needs a weizen glass to pour properly. The pint glass gives it zero head. The weizen glass gives it a bunch.

Pyramid Amber Weizen was a cloudy amber color with an off-white head. The head quickly dissipated to a thin layer leaving a litttle lacing behind. The aroma was mainly sweet malt. The taste was sweet malt and a little yeast and a hint of lemon. The body was medium and fairly heavily carbonated. The drinkabilty was average. It's basically just an average beer.

Just finishing off the last couple of bottles that I still have of this. A dark amber colour with very little head. Moderately carbonated, no lacing in the glass. Barely noticable, but lighty sweet and fruity aroma. Sweet caramel flavour to start but finishes a bit tart and dry. Not necessarily a bad beer, just not highly drinkable one.
