Bottle: Poured a bright yellow/orangey color ale with a nice thick white foamy head with good retention and some great lacing. Aroma of citrus notes is quite nice with some residual sugar notes noticeable. Taste is also dominated by citrus notes with fresh floral notes that are somewhat offset by too much residual sugar. Body is about average for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Nice IIPA but I would say that there is too much residual sugar for my own personal taste.

Poured into an oversized wine glass a deep burnt orange tinged copper with a lacy 1/2 finger white head, aromas of sweet alcohol dipped fruit, caramel, and sticky, resiny hops.Pretty sweet on the palate with the big sugary sweetness bigger than than the herbal, citric hops in my mind. The hops play a late role but its a little boozy, and pretty sweet. Not a horrible beer but just not enough hop flavor and or dryness to the beer.

Reading reviews on this site has convinced me that I'm a handicapped person. Reason: my sense of smell is actually very limited. I have never before really felt that this was a problem in my life, but of course, it has to do with more than just scent, since the subtleties of flavor are also dependent on a refined sniffer to differentiate the finer distinctions of taste. Thus my reviews, more dependent on drinkability than flavor.

This particular offering seems to me to be pretty much the usual DIPA, since my perceptions are somewhat limited, but what I don't like about it is the obvious alcohol content, undisguised by maltiness, hops or flavor. So many other DIPA's do a much better job at this... sometimes to my detriment (I'm thinking of you, Lagunitas Maximus!)

12oz bottle. Pours a clean golden amber with a smallish creamy white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet caramel malts, some melon and a little resiny piney hops.

The flavor is crystal malts with a little fruit and some resiny piney hops with decent bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a solid but not spectacular DIPA. Good value.

12oz brown bottle with no freshness date, this was a fresh sample though.

Nice heady start, three fingers high of dense head followed by a spectacle of lacing. Clear golden amber color. Piny, minty and citric hop nose ... strength in that order and a burst of tropical fruit within. Smooth and slick with a full-ish body. Bitterness is aggressive but not abusive, hop flavor jumps from herbal / tobacco to pine resin to mint to citric. Nothing hot here, alcohol is noticeable for sure but it does not get in the way. Oh yeah, there is malt here too ... slab of bread, toasted a bit. Finishes with a big hop flavor and lingering bitterness as well as the alcohol warmth.

While other limited batches of DIPA's garner all of the hype this sleeper has awakened my palate. Highly recommended especially at the prices it will be selling at.

12 oz twist off bottle at fridge temp poured into a snifter. No freshness info.

Pours out a hazy dark orange almost red color with a skim, somewhat retentive off white colored layer of head. Spotty lace only after a sip. Just a touch of alcohol legs are noticeable if you look hard enough.

Smells almost more malty than it does hoppy, similar to an American barleywine. Some old, maybe faded herbaly hops, woody pine. Becomes more leafy and a hint boozey as it warms.

Again, very malty, lots of chewy, sweet caramel malts are almost in balance with herbal, woody pine hops. A bit of dry grapefruit citrus bitterness in the finish. Quite a bit of alcohol warmth considering what this is.

Thick, sweet, and chewy. Resiny. It has an IPA bitterness, but the sweetness from the malt seems to throw that off a bit.

This might be a touch more hoppy if it was really fresh, but still probably not so in a way that it would become anymore enjoyable. Not my thing and not something ill come back to.

I'm tasting it head-to-head with three other IPA's: Boulder Beer MOJO, Anderson Valley Heelch O'Hops and Oskar Blues Deviant Dales. Of the four, this is probably my third favorite, but at $7 per six pack, it's also the cheapest.

It's fairly well balanced, with dominant pine hops, but doesn't have a really strong hops presence that I look for in IIPA's. At this price point, my go-to IIPA is still New Belgium Rampant IPA.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice.

Appearance: Pours a deep amber golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. About two fingers of white head that slowly recede into a thinner creamy layer. Leaves a good amount of lacing.

Smell: A juicy and earthy hop forward aroma with hints of citrus, pine, and caramel malt. Upfront hints of citrus hops with some grapefruit, orange peel, lemon, pineapple, and apricot. Earthy hints of grass and some pine resin. Solid bready malt backing with hints of sweet caramel, biscuit, grains, toffee, and yeast. A solid juicy aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma hints at, a juicy, earthy, and moderately sweet hop forward taste with good notes of citrus, pine, and caramel malt. Upfront taste of citrus hops with notes of grapefruit, orange peel, pineapple, mango, lemon, and apricot. Earthy and floral notes with some grass and pine. Good malt presence with bready notes of caramel, biscuit, yeast, toffee, and grains. A pretty solid taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, slightly sticky, and nicely smooth on the finish.

Overall: A solid take on a Double IPA. Nice citrus notes with a good sweet malt balance.

A cool little orange and amber pour, minimal head to it, but impressive lace. Big citrus hop aroma, no pine up in this one.

Taste, a solid double ipa, all about the hops, not too long of a boil so as to just boost ibus (a seemingly more prevalent practice/taste from upstart brewers). Floral, citrusy, orange and grapefruit. Despite not being around in the nose, the pine couples with an almost mild tobacco mouthfeel making this quite interesting.

You can't beat the price on these, and the availability. Hides the alcohol quite nicely.

Aroma has pungent notes of hop inspired madness appears in body a golden apricot orange hue of deep amber malt goodness. Full on off white head forms thick with a delicious layer of complexity coming in once again. Aroma has huge apricot citrus layers of hops to balance out malts from the past. Flavor has big pink fruits and other tropical notes hanging out with the initial hoppy flavor going on. In fact it's quite bad, between big malts and alcohol layers, a medium bodied carbonation flows thick. WIth the overall mouthfeel bringing in a thick flow of harsh carbonation. Not my favorite beer by any means but it is what it is.

12 oz bottle served in a Samuel Smith nonic.
This "imperial: IPA is nicely crafted but lacks the punch of a typical American DIPA. A bit too much alcohol in the aroma; it dominates over the rather evenly alanced caramel malt and hops. Hops finally come to the fore in tasting and linger on afterwards. Exceptional head.

Poured from above the glass about an inch or so gave this beer a super big off white head that slowly died above a clear honey copper colored beer.

A light soapy sour citrus hops with a pretty descent amount of pine tree aroma with just a tad bit of a light sweet malt creeping in.

Dry light bitter citrus, pine sap, and a light sweet caramel malt taste, a well balanced IPA taste, quite enjoyable.

This medium bodied beer finishes with a with a dry aftertaste with some bitter citrus hanging around.
