Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Ithaca glass. It poured dark brown in color with a thin, spotty head scattered across the top of the beer.

The aroma has a moderate hoppiness with a little citrus mixing with some herbal bitterness. I some roasted and chocolaty malts coming out as well.

The taste shows a little more of the roasted flavors to it. There is a herbal and grapefruit like bitterness coming out more in the finish. A little chocolate is there as well. Feels pretty balanced actually.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall it was a decent beer, but not an outstanding one in the style. The hops felt a little subdued and even a little overshadowed at times for an IPA, even a dark IPA. It did feel pretty balanced and easy drinking though. Not a bad beer overall.

Appearance is a very dark brown supporting an off white head and light spotty lace. Smell initially has a nice balance of the citrusy, piney hops with the lightly roasted and caramel malt. Taste has the grapefruit citrusy hops, but not overpowering. The roasted malt stands out the most in this IPA also having a dry, biscuity flavor. Mouthfeel is a bit thin on the medium side with good carbonation. Not a bad brew, but nothing too complex, could use a little sweetness to round things out.

Trying a big Magic Hat/Pyramid conglomerate products dark IPA. Dark cola color with ruby tinted hues, light khaki head forms thick. Aroma has an earthy ripe hop note with dark malts wrapped around your standard earthy/citric hoppy IPA accents. Flavor is like a watered down porter with alcoholic notes and black licorice that make it nearly undrinkable pine resinous, earthy, dirt ridden hops collide with a dark dry roasted malt character coming off medicinal and unpalatable. Wow, this is bad beer I'm hanging it up as far as Pyramid beers go. Harsh from the first to last sip, carbonation is on but oily resins with the dark malts pretty much ruin the style for me. Terrible simply terrible beer.

Purchased as part of a Pyramid spring sampler case. Poured in to a pint glass.

Pours a walnut black color, translucent with red hues shining through the glass. Creamy off white head.

Smell is roasted grain aroma, with a sweet caramel scent.

Taste is a charcoal and sweet caramel flavor with a dry bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly cloying with a bitter aftertaste.

Overall a good beer. More of a dry hopped porter in my book, but good just the same.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Enjoy by 06/14/12.

A: Pours a black body that allows some light through turning it dark dark brown. 1 finger yellowish-tan-white head that disspates to a film. Can actually see a little carbonation when held up to a light.

S: Some great citrus hops coming through on this aroma. Somebody said peach and I can definitely smell that too. A little roasted malt in there.

T: Floral and citrus hops to start, some malt tries to balance it out but gets overwhelmed. Lingering hop aftertaste.

M: Would never picture this beer being so dark with how it feels on the palette. Hops dont leave any unwanted sticky resins.

Overall a pretty enjoyable brew. Probably the most drinkable Dark IPA i've had.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Look - dark brown color, with about a finger and a half's worth of khaki-colored foam that dissipates somewhat quickly.

Smell - hoppy, but seemingly with a higher dose of malt. Maybe some caramel or vanilla notes? Something else a little earthier there.

Taste - very much like the smell, it's hoppy tasting, but not overwhelmingly so. Likewise, the bitterness is felt just near the beginning of the middle part of the tasting. It finishes with a slight musky quality.

Mouthfeel - very well balanced, not leaning more on the watery or creamy sides.

Overall - not a bad tasting brew. Not terribly intriguing, but not at all dull either.

The spring seasonal. A dark and stormy brew with a fresh hop tang. Chestnut brown with a white cap and plenty of carbonation.

Seems to be another entry in the "Cascadian" dark IPA crowd. No so big on the fragrant hops, but it does have a pleasant nose of resins. More of the herbal bitters, and an unusual spicy note from the five hop mix, apparently. Some deep roasted malt. Light body. Bitter aftertaste. Fairly austere as the malt fades quickly.

From the 12 oz screw-cap bottle.

Pyramid continues to disappoint. Smell is intriguing enough, with nice notes of toasted caramel, toffee, and even licorice, but that's where the appeal ends. Taste is a bit thin, with lingering notes of gas station drip coffee and burnt grain. This is not a beer I'll be coming back to...

A- pours a deep. Rown color with a finger of light tan head. Ok retention.

S- soft roasted malt and a touch of chocolate blend with a piney earthy hop aroma on the nose.

T- more light chocolate and roast malt flavors on the front end. Pine hop flavors with a light hop bitterness in the middle. Finishes weak with a touch of caramel like sweetness.

MF- slick mouthfeel. Light body and average carbonation.

D- ok drinkability.

Overall a pretty one dimensional brew.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: dark ruby brown with a haze-free body and a thick finger of frothy tan foam. A good-looking dark IPA.

Smell: resiney and citrusy hop aromas are at the forefront here. The malt in the background seems to have a bit of a caramelly or crystal malt character. It actually works pretty well, in my opinion.

Taste: nicely rich malt background with a strong bitterness atop. Some of the resiny hop flavors come through, but it's mostly bitterness and a little bit of sour thrown in. Not bad, but not wonderful.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a surprisingly well-integrated carbonation and a very good creaminess. I like it.

Overall: the bitterness and light sourness don't work great for me, but otherwise it's a pretty tasty and well-crafted beer.

Glass - Pint

A - A dark mahogany colored brew with little clarity. It produced a 2-finger head that fizzled away quickly. No lacing left on my glass.

S - I pick up licorice, herbal hops, and grapes upfront. I also get brown sugar and molasses underneath. Not much going on here.

T - Upfront I get licorice and brown sugar with, you guessed it, herbal hop notes. It's very similar to the smell, and it finishes with a bit of bark, charcoal, brown sugar and moderate bitterness. Malty flavors linger on the tongue a bit.

M - Lite-moderate crispness with a rather thin lite-medium body.

O - I thought the beer was just okay. The bitterness is rather low for an IPA, and I can't help but to think that it tastes a little watered down because Iv had a few Black IPA's with allot more flavor. The price is right for it but I don't think I'd buy this one again.

glass: pint

Appears to be a dark, deep ruby color with only a small ring atop the glass. No lacing. Smells of soft cocoa, grapes, kiwi, lemon rind and floral/pungent hops.

Body a bit thin, medium carbonation. Taste is a bit dry, some black cherry, grape, and a mild, dank hop flavor. Overall, this beer is meh.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. The color was reddish brown. About two fingers of head. Not too much lacing and the uneven amount didn’t stay too long. Good amount of film on the sides.

Smelled of dark chocolate malts. Also some toffee and caramel.

Tasted a bit lighter than the smell indicated. Fairly smooth and not too dark. Nothing really jumps out here, it seems to be fairly watery. I got some weak dark chocolate malts, but that was it.

Medium body. Creamy texture. Lively (above average) carbonation. Abrupt finish.

Nothing really excited me about this beer, especially after just having an Outburst Imperial IPA. Maybe I should have rated that a bit higher.

Picked this up tonight at the COOP... Poured into my little CC goblet.. very clear deep brown... nice tan head with good lacing.

Citrus zest with bits of pine ... a nice mix of chocolate and dark roast malt let you know this is dark without ever being overbearing.

Flavor pretty much mirrors the nose.... a bit of pithy bitterness trails out on the finish.

Body is a light/medium... good small bubble carbonation makes me want another sip.... Pretty good and cheap... I dig it.

All 4's.

Pours a very nice black color, very nice carbonation, with a nice thick creamy one-finger plus head, which then leaves some nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, with some nice malt notes, slight citrus. The taste is pretty hoppy, slightly malty, with a nice citrus note. Medium body, with a nice dry/bitter finish. This one surprised me, definitely worth checking out.
