12 fl oz brown glass bottle with twist-off pressure cap and generic uninspired label acquired as part of a pyramid variety box at my local Vons grocery store this past Friday and served into a conical Samuel Smith's pint glass in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are average given the brewery - which I'm not all that impressed with. 4.9% ABV confirmed. Brewed with 5 different hops. Enjoy by 06/07/13. Reviewing as a Bock.

Served cold, straight from the fridge. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a one finger white colour head of okay cream, okay thickness, and average (~2 minute) retention. Body colour is a clear translucent yellow. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. No overt flaws. I honestly think it looks better than most bocks I've seen. I'm looking forward to trying it. Forgettable light lacing.

Sm: Nectary honey, clove, pale malts, and minimal floral hops. Pleasantly sweet without pushing it. A mild strength aroma. No yeast character or alcohol is detectable.

T: Honey, nectary malts, clove, pale malts, and simple generic floral hops. Pretty simple, but interestingly built for a bock. The honey does add a nice touch. A bit grassy. Not too grainy. On the sweeter end of the sweet/bitter scale. Very approachable in its simplicity. No yeast character or alcohol comes through. Very pleasant to drink; there's just not much going on here.

Mf: Smooth. Wet. Overcarbonated. A touch too thick for the lack of flavour diversity and depth. Decent presence on the palate. I'd stop short of calling it refreshing, but it's pleasant to drink. Suits the flavour profile decently. Gets the job done.

Dr: Drinkable but forgettable. An above average bock, to be sure. I like the honey; it's a nice touch that I wouldn't have considered for a bock. I wouldn't get this again unless is was the only good option at a bar, but it's well priced and enjoyable. A good pizza night or barbecue beer. One of pyramid's better beers. Low ABV for a bock; it kind of misses the point of the style if we examine it in terms of tradition. All in all, I like it but I'm unimpressed.

Low C+

Pours a clear polished golden... very short lived white head... spotty lacing.

Nose is pretty standard clean maltiness... very light perfumy hoppiness... Perhaps some honey essence, but am not too sure.

Flavor has a more pronounced fermented out honey component that is put more in line by the residual pale malt.

Body is light/medium, but feels a bit heavier because the carbonation is pretty light.

Very clean... very drinkable... very boring unfortunately... but no real flaws.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Manzanita pint glass
From: VONS in Normal Heights (San Diego, Calif.)
Price: $13.97 for a summer variety 12-pack
Purchased: March 30, 2013
Consumed: April 1, 2013
Misc.: N/A

Poured a honey pale clear color with one finger of white head that dissipated very quickly. Average lacing on the side. Minimal retention.

Smelled honey, caramel, bread, cereal and toast.

Tasted pretty close to the nose. Got honey obviously, as well as some cereal, lemon grass, hay and toast. Nothing stood out here.

Light body. Thin texture. Soft (below average)-to-flat carbonation. Abrupt finish, but somewhat refreshing.

Not a big fan of this beer. Nothing stood out, pretty ordinary.

Handsome golden amber in the glass. Modest head but nice swirls of lacing. Fairly spritzy on the tongue. Faint aroma of something like honey.

Slight tanginess and a light but distinct honey flavor. Not as sweet as I feared. There is not a lot of flavor going on; to be charitable, I'd call it subtle. Perfectly clean. This would be the beer to offer someone new to hop flavors. It's really not bitter at all. Still, it's a step up from malt liquor, it's just so simple.

From the 12 oz screw-cap bottle bought at Ralph's supermarket in San Clemente.

Gold colored beer with a very minimal white head.

Smells sweet with a little honey pollen scent. Soda cracker malt with a slight perfume from hops. Caramel and honeysuckle scents.

Starts out a little sweet with a cracker and honey flavor. The taste of hard water and a little caramel and that is about it.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Overall a completely forgettable beer.
