Old Credit's Amber Ale ("OCAA") is 5.0% alcohol by volume and we sampled it in a 680 ml bottle purchased from the brewery's on-premises retail store.

We poured the bottle according to the recommendation on the company's web site (a nice touch on Old Credit's part...click on "How to Pour A Premium Beer"), and OCAA poured a clear, deep copper colour with about 2 centimetres of foamy beige head. The head lasted for about 5 minutes before resolving itself into a ring that left no lacing or spotting down the glass. Caramel malts dominate the aroma with just a hint of floral hops and fruit. As hard as I try, I just can't identify the type of fruit though. The flavour is of toasted caramel malts up front, with a hint of fruitiness that again I just can't pin down, transitioning to a dry and slightly bitter finish with a mild toasted malt/bitter aftertaste. Carbonation was fairly light which contributed to the smoothness of the beer, and OCAA was light to medium bodied. When all's said and done, a respectable, refreshing beer, but personally I would have preferred a cleaner finish. As with Old Credit's Pilsner, take this one out of the fridge 10-15 minutes before sampling for a much better experience

Very pale copper with weak, fast-fading head. Soft aroma of sour molasses, rather unconventional as well. The taste and mouthfeel redeem it: several layers of gentle malt, and a nice crisp, balanced finish with a linger of faint copper. Mouthfeel is excellent, round yet refreshing. Not a great amber overall, and lacking in any striking flavours.

A bright clear ruby brown colour, creamy white head, average lacing. 3.5

S - honey malts, nuttiness. Soft toffee caramels, butterscotch, some lemon hop character but mostly sweet malts. Good round aroma. 3.75

T - more bitterness, some sourish malt, lots of caramel and grainy nuttiness, butterscotch, light apricot fruitiness. Leads to a quite dry finish, average and too malt dominated.

M - light with a caramel malt body, fairly high carbonation leading to a crisp finish, easy session amber, malty forward 3.25

A malty sweet amber with light bitterness and some sour bitterness and mineral finish. Good beer, fairly average profile, could be more interesting and have a more balanced body.

Got this one at the LCBO.

From a bomber into a snifter.

APPEARANCE: Pours a small, thin film that quickly recedes to a splotchy wisp and ring. Perfectly clear burnt orange in color with next to no carbonation evident. Only a ring remains leaving no lacing down the glass. Lousy head for sure.

SMELL: Lots of caramel, toffee and butterscotch notes. Some bubble gum and hints of melon on the nose. Alright here.

TASTE: Lots of caramel and grainy, sweet malts up front, with a sweet and grainy finish again. Bold aftertaste is sweet toffee, sweet grains, bread and notes of floral hop bitterness. Lots of bread and sweet toffee.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Pretty creamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes crisp. A touch of sweetness lingers. Pretty decent feel for the style.

OVERALL: Noting wrong with this one, though nothing remarkable about it either. It's perhaps a little too grainy and sweet for my palate and the head could definitely use some work, but I would certainly drink it again if it was offered to me. Cheers!

Revisited this with a review on October 5, 2016. 650 ml bomber into a pint glass.

Appearance - not quite as Amber as I ember but still generally Amber hued. Clear with modest carbonation and a decent finger of white head which recedes quickly.

Smell - some grain and caramel, not too interesting and slightly solvent smelling.

Taste - pretty much like the nose, fairly clean but many ambers are better than this. Coarse grain, but flavours are slightly metallic and nearing adjunct territory.

Mouthfeel - smooth and light bodied, good carbonation, nothing wrong here.

Overall - had this pegged as a 3.25, not much has changed, other than despite a reasonable price, the beer just isn't good enough to make it into my rotation. An ok beer for cheap Canadian craft for a relatively straightforward style.
