Poured with no head.
Taste is a medicine hop flavor. Flat and thick tasting. In the glass, it appears to be nothing more than a glass of colored water. This is either a bad bottle of a fair beer or just an overall bad beer.
Not worth trying again to find out. (262 characters)

Thanks to AndrewNations for bringing this bottle back. Served in a tulip.

Pours a clear golden color with a pretty good white head and some spotty lacing. The nose is dominated by DMS and the accompanying creamed corn character. Not much else. Maybe some grain. The taste is nothing but corn and quite gross. Really just bad. Feel is creamy and full of things reminding me of vegetables. Light with not enough carbonation. Drinks very, very poorly. (449 characters)

I had high hopes for this one and it fell short. I was hoping it was surprisingly tasty like PBR but it wasn't. It looked like most of these lagers do with a pale gold color and a small, white, fizzy head. No lacing. The smell and taste were mostly corn and unappealing bitterness. An okay mouthfeel, crisp, sharp and very light. This is not worth trying unless you are attempting to sample every beer around. (409 characters)

Appearance: No head at all, looks like a soft drink. Pale yellow colour.

Smell: Only a very faint smell, of hops I think

Taste: Tangy and somewhat unpleasant. Sharpness at the back of the mouth, doesn't really even taste like beer.

Mouthfeel: Flat and insipid

Drinkability: NothIng about this drink would encourage me to have another bottle. I'm not even sure if I want to finish this one. (393 characters)

Below average lager (?). Not really sure what to make of this one, as I could detect none of the attributes touted on the label. Guess I'll have to try it on its home turf some time to see if it is any better. I'll drink it with some gumbo. (240 characters)

Sickly pale yellow, very small whitish soapy head, spotty lace. Odd nose, very sweet like honey mixed with corn and cooked veggies... plus it is rather potent (a bad thing). Poor palate; malty but cloyingly sweet, no detectable hops, it gets husky at the end. Smooth, weakly carbonated, light bodied, watery. This is just an awful beer. Avoid it, one of the worst beers I have tried. (383 characters)

This beer pours a clear medium orange/yellow with a slowly dissipating white head. The smell is metallic, sulphurous, and sour. The taste(while trying not to breath in) is sweet and malty with a mild hoppy and metalic finish with a thin mouthfeel. This beer looks bad, smells bad, taste bad, and drinks bad but it could be a Hidden River Pale. I will give it another shot-maybe I got a bad one. (394 characters)

Poured into oversized wine glass (not to sure why though)

Pours clear brownish yellow with a lot of bubbles and no lace. Smell is mostly corn, but very little. Taste is rather blah, a bit of corn and maybe some malt. Mouthfeel is light and sticky. Overall I'd rather not have to many of these, although not sure I'd notice the difference. (339 characters)

The clear darker straw / light golden hued brew is topped by a meager head. Sweet yellow corn in aroma w/ mild notes of sulfur and cooked veggies. A touch of 6- row huskiness is perceptible towards the end of the aroma. The flavor profile is comprised of borderline cloying corn sweetness since hop bitterness is very subdued. The malt foundation is sorely lacking in this brew, most likely due to the highly fermentable but body lightening effect of ample rice in the grist. There's no hop flavor whatsoever. Dixie finishes sweet, w/ mild grainy notes and lingering unappealing generic American lager DMS. This is quite a dissapointing brew and is certainly no better than macroswill. (690 characters)

12oz bottle, at Pizza Brew in Calgary.

This beer pours a somewhat hazy, medium golden yellow colour, with one finger of weakly foamy, and mostly bubbly dirty white head, which leaves a few specks of islet lace around the glass as it quickly burns off.

It smells of rancid butter, turned corn mush, paint thinner, and little else. The taste is musty corn and rice cakes, diacetyl up the yin yang, stale yeast, a touch of plastic phenols, and a dry, non-hop oriented mustiness.

The bubbles are pretty low-key, barely registering on any level, the body medium-light in weight, and way more pithy than smooth. It finishes semi-sweet, the corniness sort of apologetic, but hardly making up for the lingering musty plastic notes.

Another Minhas contract brew, where they seemingly just rename one (I'm not about to investigate which) of their large stable of skanky adjunct lagers. This time, it appears to be one whose corners are thoroughly and duly ravaged. (958 characters)

Beautiful bottle, nostalgic of New Orleans and the Old South.

No head to speak of; no real smell (or taste)

Absolutely, positively, without a doubt, the worst beer I have ever tasted. Light, like water (or piss). Touch of metal and chemicals. The cypress is long gone due to floods, factory problems, etc.

I was with a friend in New Orleans who just had to try it, despite my warnings, and the bartender described it as a "novelty" because of the bottle and name, and strongly advised him not to try it. Despite our protests, he did, and we all three agreed it is the worst beer you can get. Nice bartender, gave him something else anyways. (644 characters)

Hoo boy. This might be the worst beer I've yet had.

Typical golden adjunct lager appearance; smelled like simple syrup with some artificial fruit juice notes.

Tasted like Welch's white grape juice that had spoiled. So vinously sweet; no hops to speak of. Cloyingly syrupy mouthfeel. Boo. (290 characters)

Appearance- Pours with a clear yellow body like the color of straw. Thin white head which disappears quickly.

Smell- Very yeasty with a slight hint of malts.

Taste- Very crisp with a bitter taste and dry finish. Has a dry finish.

Mouthfeel- Thin with high carbonation.

Drinkability- None. Lets be honest this beer is garbage. The fact that they aren't brewing this in New Orleans anymore makes it suck more. Dixie was never very good and now it is riding on the coat of nostalgia. (485 characters)

whooo put the skunk in the bottle? Poured with a huge thick foamy white head. Plenty of lace. Flavor wasn't quite as bad. Not saying a lot. Decent body. pale gold color. Think this one was light struck and woulda been a whole lot better before the dastardly deed. Too bad as this is a sample and therefore won't be carried. (323 characters)

I bought this as a mix and match 6-pack from Everhett's in South Beloit, IL for $9.99.

A rather basic beer here. Pours a golden amber with a pretty thick head. Has the scent of very grassy grains which continues into the taste as well as having a slight bitterness. Really comes down to an average beer of average quality. Considering the taste for the price, you might as well go with Red Dog. Same taste just a thinner texture. (431 characters)

I remember Dixie Beer from the old beer can collecting days of my youth. I guess that lead to a curiosity to try the brew. I got a 12oz bottle of this brew from the local beer/wine superstore. I chilled it overnight and poured a sample into a 12 oz. weizen glass. The rest that I decided to drink was from the bottle.

Appearance: golden hue, clear and with a head of white froth. Nothing special.

Smell: Typical sweet corn/grain smell of an American adjunct lager.

Taste: The taste was sweet and the carbonation was noticeable. Not much of an aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, carbonated, and light.

Overall: Nothing came out in the taste to make me want to buy this beer again. Why it could be anything more than a local favorite is beyond me. (746 characters)

Poured a clear and bubble pale golden color with a nice cap of white head taht quickly faded and had very little glass cling.

The hops were a bit skunked and the scent of cheap grain left an undesirable impact on the nose.

The taste was kind of present, watered down grainy malt and stale hops. I bought just one bottle but I can't help feeling a bit put off that it cost $1.25.

Mouthfeel was consistant with water save for the carbonation. Slightly sour taste stays on the palate after swallowing.

If I were to sum the overall experience of this beer up with one word, that word would be "stale". (601 characters)

This is pretty bad...not terrable, just bad.
Colour is a very thin golden...the crown was weak to begin and lessened quickly.
Carbonation was lively resulting in a thin lace and large island lace...(this was its strong point)
The body was thin.
The nose was non descript.
The taste was sweet start to finish with a minor linger.
Not impressive. (351 characters)

Appearance: Light golden color with a modest white head with poor retention, poor lacing, and small streams of slow rising carbonation.

Aroma: Oppressively sweet aroma of honey and caramel corn, with no hop presence whatsoever.

Taste: Begins with a sweet honey-like malt note, followed by a more substantial malt presence, and finishing with a low level medicinal bitterness that just will not go away.

Mouth feel: Fairly sharp carbonation on the tip of the tongue, with a decent body.

Drinkability/notes: Not that good, I am afraid, perhaps my sample had not traveled well. But I have had much better light lagers. In my opinion, a lawnmower beer, nothing more. (674 characters)

Light alcohol brew (4.5%) in a lager bottle. Still, not a bad looking pour of lemon yellow, with a firm white head. Bit of euro skunk in the aroma, but the whole rotten skunk is in the beer. Whoo, this one rates as a rough one if we're suppose to think this captures the southern way of life.

There's enough cooked veggies, which have been sitting in the sun for a couple days, to feed a family of 4. This one would be hard to drink, even after a hard day of lawn mowing. (473 characters)

Out of a bottle at NCED/Marriot bar in Norman, Oklahoma...

Gold color with a foamy adjunct head. Some sense of berries in the mostly sweetish aroma. Lacks overcarbonation -- an OK thing to me but helps stress a slightly woody corn husk flavor in the malts. Hopping is poor to non-existent. The aftertaste is sweetly cloying and unpleasant. Aside from the mouthfeel, there's nothing to recommend this brew over any macro I've run across. (444 characters)

12 ounce bottle. Dixie beer pours out a clear golden color with half an inch of white head. The aroma is pretty bad. It makes me think of spoiled milk. The flavor isn't quite so bad, although it does have a little bit of sour milk. Besides that, I taste honey, malt, and sweet corn. Mouthfeel is light. Drinkability is a little weak. The flavor of this beer isn't terrible, but the smell almost makes me sick, and it ruins this beer for me. (440 characters)

I guess they use city water to brew this beer. New Orleans is not known for its water quality. This is an alright lager. But to be honest it is overprice for what it is and I am not sure how old it was. It might be much better should I be in NOLA drinking it.

Color: Lager yellow, straw clear and faint in depth.

Aroma: Adjuncts, malts, not much else. Smells like an American adjunct lager.

Taste: I would rather have a Miller High life over this one. Like I said I may not have gotten this the freshest in the world but its not really that good of a beer. I swear I can taste swamp water in this beer. Maybe that is part of the character.

Overall: Not the best, certainly not the worst beer I have had, but I have been spoiled lately. (741 characters)

Pours a slightly fogged straw gold with a minimal white head. Nose is like roasted malts with a sweet tone to it. Flavor has a roasted edge to it, but it just doesn't seem clean at all. Pretty uneven and out of balance. I don't like it. Feel is standard. I can't really say this is that drinkable. (297 characters)
