Friendly service with a pretty decent craft beer selection. Above average selection of IPA's, Stouts and Porters, as well as beers imported from Germany and Belgium and I even tried a pale ale from Japan (didn't like it though). The only thing I'd like to see is more of the west coast style IPA's.
I've talked to the owner or manager a couple of times and he was very excited about expanding their craft beers at the time and offering the mix-a-six. He seemed pretty passionate about his beer.
No problem finding a beer you like or one you'd like to try. Prices are about in line with what you'd pay at other stores for the same product. My only knock would be that they often keep beers shelved that are well out of date. I bought a beer their that tasted off for whatever reason and they were more than accomodating about taking it back and letting me get whatever I wanted in it's place. Overall a pretty good store.

Town Wine was my regular for years. I've moved but I still make it by every now and then.

They have a good selection of beer with lots from Belgium and the Northeastern US and a fair number from England and Germany. I find them a bit weak on beers from other parts of the US though; especially west coast IPAs. I hear that's due in large part to availability in RI. Many of them are available in MA though so RI stores are at a real disadvantage.

They offer lots of singles of all sizes and a fair amount of six packs. Most of the craft beer is kept at room temperature. The refrigerated sections tend to be reserved for the BMC, Sam Adams, etc. The service is good, the prices are a bit on the low side and they do know their beer and wine.

Town Wine is worth a try but it doesn't quite compare to Yankee Spirits.

Wow,

Been shopping around for a nice local beer shop.

A place where business at least seems appreciated.

I finally found it. Smart and helpful staff. The lady at the register was nice. Asked if I found everything I was looking for. This has not happened to me for a while. Refreshing.

Had a ton of craft beers. All kinds of stuff. Got a great buy on a 12 pack of bottled Gansett. Like 8 bucks.

Found my new beer store, and it took longer than it should have.
Great place for beer drinkers on the East Bay. Check it out.

Town Wine & Spirits has shown a dedicated commitment to import and craft beers. they make the most of their shelf space to include a variety of brands, styles, and countries. their beer manager (Taylor) is happy to help with any questions and offers free tastings most Friday evenings. he is always up to date on the latest beer news and upcoming releases. the beer prices are very competitive, and in many cases special releases/bottles here are at least a dollar less than Nikki's. i would definitely recommend stopping in - whether it is to try something new or just restock your favorite 750ml or six pack.

Town Wine and Spirits has done a great job bringing in a selection of beer in the past few years, especially given the square footage they have. The greatest compliment I can give them is that I never have to worry if they'll have the beer I want. Obviously posting on this board
I look for more than the mainstream.

Everytime I've gone in I've received friendly service, and the beer manager,Taylor really has a passion for great tasting beer...and it shows in the selection...kudos to them...well done!

This is my go-to beer store. Why you might ask?

Well I'll tell ya...

Great service. Taylor is the beer manager and has always taken time to help and is always willing to talk about beer. He is always trying to bring in new stuff and is eager for the opinion of beer lovers. Everyone there is always friendly and willing to help if you need it.

Great Prices. Town has simply the best prices around. They have a mix a six program with a discount which is great for trying new beers.

Selection. Especially when you consider the fact that they don't have an overabundance of space they really pack in an exceptional selection. Lots of tasty foreigns and a very nice choosing of American craft beer.

It is also very convenient for me coming from the Eat side of Providence. It's even easier coming off of 95. It's just a couple of miles south of 95 on Newport Ave.

Stopped in last night after hearing that I had to check it out. They were doing a tasting, which was part of my motivation.

The beer section is a little cramped, especially when they do a tasting. It's stuck awkwardly in the middle of the wines. I was told they will be moving the beer towards the end of the store, which will hopefully allow them more space for more selection.

The quality of the selection is awesome. They have a good mix of domestic and imported beers, lots of Belgians, and a bunch of larger bottles. The selection isn't the best I've seen in RI, but it's still pretty impressive. The amount of craft beer in the cooler is the biggest downside. The cooler is overrun by macros and most of the craft beer is from just a couple of breweries.

The service is great. Taylor, the beer manager, knows his stuff and is quite helpful.

The most impressive part of the visit was the prices. They are absolutely unbeatable. I have never seen some of the beers at those prices before. They also do a mix-a-six for 10% off the individual bottle prices. It's well worth a trip and looks like it'll only be getting better.

Grew up next door to the store. Probably the best beer store in RI other than Nikki's. Very friendly service. The new beer manager is very friendly and enthusiastic, and we talked beer for 20 minutes. They have a mix-a-six program. Really nice selection of Belgians. Starting to get distribution on Nogne, Mikkeller, Ballast Point, and Oskar Blue's. Prices are the best for craft beer in the area. New tastings on Friday night have been really good, including one with Mikkeller and Nogne. Defintely a store on the upswing.

Re-rate 4/18 I'm re-rating the selection because the inventory keeps getting better and better. In the past month, there has been an influx of exceptional beer, including De Dolle, Bredog, Stone RIS, Kasteel, and a bunch of others. Tastings have been very high quality, including an oak-aged serioes, a St. Bernardus, and a Brewdog.

OK, Taylor, you owe me a six-pack :)

just kidding.

This is my neighborhood beer store and boy am I lucky. They have the mix-a-six deal (10% off) on all the beer in the store. They have a center aisle of a good group of craft beers that runs about 15' long on both sides. They have a cooler on the end of this aisle which is my biggest negative with this store. It is very rarely stocked with much craft beer. I'd love to see them have a larger mix of six-packs and bombers like Dogfish, Oskar Blues, Ommegang, Beamish, Chimay and Duvel. All this does is cause me to plan ahead so that my beer can be cold at home, which is fine. The prices are mixed. Some high and some low. The service is always very helpful (often looking for cold beers or offering cases that I ask for). Look for the bargain bin near the door. I often find some good deals there. I've done a few tastings here as well (Oskar and Stone), which is always great to go to.

**Newly added - BA reviews on display with each corresponding beer. Great addition to the beer shelves.

**1/5/09 Update - This has been my go-to place for beer for the past two years. The prices are unbeatable. They just added another level of shelves which means more Belgians! I'm thankful to have bought a house so close to this beer mecca a couple years ago.

I used to visit Town Wine frequently several years ago. They always had a nice selection of Unibroue, especially the gift packs, but when I moved, it dropped off my radar. Was in the neighborhood today and stopped in for the mix-a-six deal (10% off). The entire craft beer section takes up an aisle in the center of the store (3 shelves each side about 8' to 10' long), which included a few too many Sixers, in my opinion. Cooler stock was somewhat unimpressive, with your standard of Sam, Sea Dog, Magic Hat, etc. Shelf selection was pretty good. Had some of the harder to find DFH (120 Minute IPA, Chateau Jiahu, Fort), bombers of Ommegang (Hennipen & Rare Vos), Chimay, Duvel, Berkshire and a few Unibroue (although not as many as I remembered). Mix-a-Six was decent, but a little thin. A few Averys, Allagash, Northcoast, Victory and Ipswich, as well as Haverhill. Had a decent selection of Stone Brewing which took up quite a bit of one shelf. Not a bad selection of Belgians and Germans, but I am somewhat new to those scenes so can't really rate for quality or depth. Prices were reasonable; however, some things were a bit overpriced. Couldn't really rate service because I didn't ask for any, but since I was the only customer in the store, I kind of expected someone to take an interest. Not a bad little store for the area, and definitely worth stopping by.

11/10 - Update: Received an email from Taylor the manager - very receptive to feedback and clarified for me that singles can be taken from intact 6 packs for the mix-a-six. With that in mind, definitely a wider selection than I initially described. Taylor, thanks for the excellent customer service.

1/3/08 - Update: Belgian selection has grown and they have a couple Chimay gift sets left at $17.99. Had a nice conversation with Taylor the beer manager. Very knowledgeable and customer-service oriented. You'll definitely find something you're looking for.

6/13/2008 - Update: I've been consistently going to Town, and it's my regular stop now. Taylor constantly works hard at keeping it fresh and interesting. Well worth your time.

12/27/2008 - Upate: More shelf space has been added, which means more craft beer :) Belgian section has expanded greatly.

Not a bad place. Nice selction in beer and lot of 750ml bottles.
Spoke with the manager who wants to expand the beer selection like its' mix it six, and beer tasteing sessions. The mix it six selection is small but he said that they are testing it out. He said it was ok to pull some other bottle from 6 packs if I liked. I grabbed a Blue Moon Spring Ale. Prices are not bad. I saw a Rogue Chocolate Stout that was $1 cheaper then other places. Nice place to go if you live in the area and from what the manager said it looks to get even better in time. I picked up a fwe thing. Purchased some Russian made porter in a pint for $1.99 on sale.

There's not as much cooler space as most places but they make the most of it by packing stuff in tight. There's one full aisle for the craft brew and there's a pretty decent selection. They carry mostly the same quality brewers that you normally see around here with a couple of exceptions, but the difference is that they more of them. What made the selection good was that there were some beers from those brewers that you normally do NOT see around here.

As good as the selection is you still get the sense that the focus is more on wine. I couldn't tell whether that's a good thing or a bad thing in this case. It's just an observation.

While I didn't ask for any service, nor was I offered any, I could tell from overhearing the staff with other patrons that they were friendly and helpful.

The pricing for the most part was reasonable. You may find a couple of things over-priced by a bit, but each one of them that you find; there'll be another that is slightly under-priced.

Edit 5/11/07: I've been in the store several times since writing the review and the selection continues to expand. They also added the "mix your own six pack" option with a 10% discount.

This is a pretty good liquor store for stocking up on Three Floyds, which isn't available in Massachusetts. I hit this place up to pick up Gumballhead this winter, because I knew it was one of the few places that still had it in stock. I asked the beer manager about it, and he was very helpful, offering to give me a few bottles out of a fresh case instead of those that were sitting on the shelf. He also told me about some new arrivals from Southampton that were not on the shelves yet. There is a nice selection of stuff, although some of it is a bit dusty. On the whole, an good and easy experience.

I used to shop here for Imports many years ago when I lived in Pawtucket. I have recently rediscovered Town. This is another small gem of a liquor store that has limited shelf space. But thanks to the keen beer manager Mike, it continues to have little suprises show up on the shelves. Case in point tomorrow he will be putting out a case (possibly the only case in RI) of Uerige Sticke as soon as he gets pricing for it. I found, for the first time in RI , from Unibroue Eau Benite. They are also interested in getting The distributor of Unibroue to bring "2004" to The Littlest State.

this is a pretty good store to buy beer at. the people are knowledgeable, the beer selection is decent and the prices are pretty good. keep an eye out for sales. i found 750 ml bottles of ommegang at 2 for $7 and other six-packs for around 5 or 6 bucks. their selection is pretty good, but not as good as Yankee in attleboro. overall, a nice store to find good beer at.
