The addition of natural maple brings this premium Stout a softer, smoother mouth feel and adds a touch of sweetness to balance the dark rich malts. It is a truly Canadian version of an old British classic.

Heist Maple Stout - recall having I past as Maple Stout.
Pours a dark brown with finger of creamy dark tan to brown head.
Roasty malt, coffee, vanilla, and maple on the nose - more prominent as warmed.
Taste is malty with a roasty coffee character along with strong notes of sweet maple/maple syrup - slight bitterness at the end.
Medium creamy mouthfeel with active carbonation - nicely bittersweet at the end.

Revamped can artwork and its called Heist Maple Stout.

Appearance - Pours a dark brownish black with three fingers of mocha tan head.

Smell - maple syrup, coffee, cocoa, earthy and leafy hops, roasted malts, and earthy yeast.

Taste - maple syrup, coffee, and cocoa upfront. It's as if I'm having french toast and coffee at the moment. The earthy and leafy hops come through next. The roasted malts and earthy yeast finish off the brew.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes smooth and creamy with the maple syrup, coffee, and cocoa lingering.

Overall - One of the best maple brews I've sampled to date. Cannery delivers on all fronts. If you find a can of this at your local liqour/beer store do yourself a favour a pick a can or a few up. A flavourful and unique brew that has my mind on french toast and coffee!

Smells of sweet maple, pours a delightful creamy head (not as good as Guinness's). Long, coffee like maple finish. A good drink on a cold autumn evening. More complex flavor than Guinness, but could be heavier and more filling for the style.

Poured from a bomber into a tulip.
L- Nearly pitch black with a tan head that quickly dissipates to almost nothing.
S- Strong smell of espresso, maple, molasses, dark fruit, caramel, vanilla, smoke.
T- Espresso and maple with a prominent chocolate finish. Nice balance of sweet and smoky but the nose gave off indication of stronger flavor.
F- A little watery and it is quite low in carbonation. It does have a nice creaminess that makes it quite warming.
O- Quality stout that delivers on the maple.

Purchased in a 650ml bottle. Pours black with a slim head. Smells strongly of coffee. Tastes quite a bit like coffee, as well, but with a subtle maple aftertaste. Ultimately, I was hoping for more maple, but it is quite delicious for what it is.

Great webby tan cream over ruby black that speckles. 4.25
Sweet roast and smoke with definite wood and sugar i.e. maple - tasty nose! 4.5
Tar and char, treacle and Baker’s chocolate, and threads of candy sweet maple. 4.25
Chocolaty finish and clean linger.
Medium, creamy, round. 4

Nails the concept and then some. A mean black stout underneath, coupled with deep maple notes. Packs in lots of flavor for 5.5%, and 35 IBUs tidies up nicely. Top of Canadian craft. 4.25

Picked this one up from my store today after sampling the Sap Sucker from Fernie yesterday. They seem very similar, despite that one being a porter and this is, of course, a stout. I'll be referencing Sap Sucker a lot, since it's fresh in my mind, and is similar to this in many ways.

The beers both look nice, and this one has a good three fingers of brown head, although I noticed this faded away rather quickly. Sap Sucker looked like an ice cream float, and certainly wins the appearance battle.

One thing that this beer deserves a lot of credit for over it's maple BC brother is that it actually has a good bit of maple in the aroma and in the taste. The usual coffee aroma and taste of these sorts of dark beers is present of course, but this one really makes me feel like I'm having a cup of coffee with some pancakes. The aroma is akin to taking a good huff from a maple syrup bottle, and it's certainly something I'm glad is there. The taste is not overly sweet, although it is noticeably less bitter than Sap Sucker. The feel is very tingly, despite not having a whole lot of carbonation.

Very good beer, nearly equal with Sap Sucker, I'd say.
