Poured from a can into a pint glass. Good golden orange color and lots of citrus scents including grapefruit and orange. A medium bodied beer with lots of good flavors with the hops producing a nice bittnerness at the end. Overall a pretty nice IPA especially from a can --- I'm still not a big fan of cans --- convenience yes, but no to the flavors.

12oz brown stubby. Clear, bright, rich copper color, topped with a frothy, white head. A good finger of foam retains for while, then settles to a healthy lace with plenty of clinging stick to the glass.

Nose is quite aromatic, perfume-y, floral, and full of fresh sweet grains.

Medium-bodied with a hard water mouthfeel. Actually, watery all around with a weak malt character that’s quickly subdued by a dominant grainy flavor and feel, and a lackluster thinned hop character lurking beneath. Some bready notes as the beer warms. Quick citric flash, but that’s about it. Palate is left dry with notes of dusty herbal and grain.

A pretty boring offering, and not much of an IPA.

This may be their regular IPA under a different name or a special park brew--was on tap in Yosemite National Park

Appearance: minimal head, clear, brownish/gold in color, low carbonation

Smell: pine hops

Taste: toasted malt, big pine hops and a touch of citrus hops.

Mouthfeel: light bodied--borderline watery, moderate carbonation, slightly bitter.

Drinkability: This one is an average to slightly above average west coast ipa. I would not pass this one up as I like pine ipas and this one hit the notes. However, there are much better ipas and brews from this brewery.

Pours a nice, fairly clear, amber color; but with very little head and no lacing. Smell has some nice juicy citrus hops, balanced well with the some sweet caramel from the malt. This one has a very nice aroma to it, but not quite a 4.5 for me. Taste comes off a little more floral, but still retaining an excellent balance of malt and hops. By balance, I mean that hops are dominant, as it is an IPA, but the malt keeps it from being one sided. Less than medium level of carbonation, with a medium body. This is a beer that beginners can love as well as the experienced hophead. I think this would be a staple beer of mine if it were available in my area.

Tap @ the Clocktower. Pours orange with a moderate off-white head. Aroma is nice; hoppy, piney, and sweet. More pine than citrus, but both are prevalent. The taste is very smooth for an IPA with this many hops. A good call when you're back in Mammoth, but the 395 blows this away.

Another dark orange beer from Mammoth. Aroma is lacking, not dry hopped like the pale.

Taste, much more bitter than the pale, hop bill is forward, just seemingly more high alpha acid feel and bitterness as opposed to the dry hop feel of the pale. A little sweeter than desired.

Mouthfeel, a little thick downward, would love this beer with more/some dry hopping. A little expensive.

Pours from a 12 ounce can with a High Sierra Mountain seen with a green labeled background and logo, description on the back. Appears a pale copper hue with bright off white sandy beige head, forms intricate even lacing throughout the sides of my pint glass. Aroma has citrus back ground grapefruit and vegetal tones a bit of backend caramel malts. Spicy peppery notes are very subtle but evident. Flavor has a notable fruity character going on with spicy herbal peppery blend of hops with backend caramel tones. Mouthfeel is going with a nice moderate carbonation, a bit sticky/slick with hops. Drinkability is nice subtle not the craziest aggressive west coast hop, but solid drinkability not anything offensive.

This beer pours a slightly hazy golden color, with a thin white head. The head fades fast, leaving a good lace.

This beer has a mild piney hop aroma. It also has a slight citrusy lemon scent to it. A slight malty sweetness is present as well.

This beer tastes much like it smells. Mild. Some pine and citrus hops. A slight malty caramel flavor is also present.

This beer is crisp and refreshing. It leaves a mild piney aroma. Carbonation is good.

This beer would make a great session beer. It is mild and refreshing. The alcohol contene is low enough to enjoy a few.

Overall: This is a pretty good beer. I picked up a pack while at Yosemite. It is great to be able to get this walking distance from my campsite. I will buy it every time I am in the park.

12oz. stubby brown bottle poured into an imperial pint.

A: Pours an average amber with decent clarity. About a finger worth of off white head. Some retention. Decent lacing.

S: Not much aroma. Not really getting much hops. Some light malt sweetness. There's a.... burnt plastic?.... aroma there... somehow.

T/M: Low bitterness, might not even be APA levels. Hardly any American hop flavor, or any hop flavor for that matter. Malts are lightly biscuity with a touch of sweetness. Body is medium with mild carbonation.

D: This beer sucks...

Solid IPA - Drank the same day as bottling, then again 3 days after. No bottle on date to Mammoth's bottles, how do you back that statement up you ask??? I have my resources...

A - Very good. A little darker than your typical west coast IPAs, copper colored and very active in the tulip glass and solid white eggshell head and lacing follows suit.

S - Damn. Same day bottled IPA...not your typical citrusy hops. Pungent, Resinous, dank grapefruit and pine. Smells sticky like a double might. The grassiness and dank smells also hold a small bit sage in the background but you really have to look for it.

T - Yum. Same day bottled IPAs I'd image after this one can replace that hop fix needed from Double IPAs. Follows nose perfectly and the pine is almost prickly rather than grassy in a good way.Caramel malt just a bit more apparent here than in your traditional West Coast IPAs. Blends very well in a beer this fresh. Taste would warrant a 5 if that bright sunshine citrus that many west coast IPAs provide were more vibrant here. Juuust about as good as the nose.

M - freaking solid. bitter on the back end and creamy at the same time, almost like extremely well balanced double IPAs around 8-8.5% Love the dry finish it provides.

O - The problem with reviews on this beer is that I feel it gets reviewed on average into the 2-3 month age mark. Mammoth locals I'm sure appreciate this beer much more than those outside the immediate area. If you understand where Mammoth is located geographically, you will understand what I mean. I'd assume malts take over with this one a bit too much after 6-7 weeks of bottling.

Thanks to baybassoby for this one!

A: Pours a dark orange with a two finger off-white head on top. Decent detention leaving a ring of foam on top. Randomly forming lace coats the sides.

S: Good amount of grapefruit and some faint pine. The hops give off an herbal aroma, slightly dank.

T: More grapefruit mixed with some caramel and a little bready malt. Slightly soapy.

M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Pretty easy drinking. Slightly dry and bitter finish.

O: Easy drinking with a nice hop profile. Not over the top, but solid.

Appearance - Pours a hazy golden orange with an off-white, finger width head and fair retention. Lacing is spotty, with little stick.

Smell - Strong, deep caramel notes. Hints of floral hop character.

Taste - Follows the nose. Deep caramel malt character upfront and throughout. Hops are laid back, playing on floral vibes mid-taste, before a mild orange pith bitterness hits in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium in body with moderate carbonation. Goes down smooth and easy. Quite quaffable.

Overall - A well-balanced IPA. Fits in closer to an APA by today's standards. I love the flavor. These deep caramel brews get me every time. Reminiscent of Mad River Steelhead DIPA, with less hop bite. Definitely a future buy... especially when Red Chair goes out of season!

Had a bottle while in Mammoth. The hazy orange beer had a tall white head. The hop character was a had a fresh herb-citrus character and was backed by a doughy malt taste. Really, this was a fine IPA, but there was nothing spectacular or stand-out about it. It's certainly not a bad option if you're working with a limited beer list, but it's not the first IPA I'd pick.

It poured a half finger of head on a clear, amber colored body.
The aroma is nice with lemon and straw.
The taste is smooth with mild bitterness.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
A fine IPA and a really easy drinker, nothing special but good.

Pours a deep orange from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass with a half inch head; reducing to a thin film and showing standard lacing.

Piney hops on the nose couple with some light citrus tones and a touch of hempy hops, not atypical to California IPA's. Seems reminiscent of their IPA 395 but a bit more subdued and without herbal adjuncts and the malty cover of a such a DIPA

Taste is slightly sweet, though not very complex, and with a bit of dry hop smokiness on the finish. Otherwise follows suit from the aroma. Carbonation is a bit light, giving the beer a slightly thin mouthfeel at times. A smooth bottle conditioned brew that drinks like a highly hopped pale ale.

Hmm, dont know if the previous rater had a bad bottle as I really like this beer. Its a very drinkable session beer. Its clean and crisp with plenty of hop flavor, but without going overboard with it.

Its a great treat to have had this beer. I am sure glad that its rather local to me and that I can easily get 6 packs.
