Golden Trout Pilsner: Crisp and refreshing as a high Sierra stream, High Country Pilsner/ Golden Trout Pilsner combines a light malty body with a floral hop finish. Pilsner malt, Vienna malt, and noble hops make this a beer of exceptional flavor.

My throat has beem semi-dry all day. Time for an after work beer:

A nice pour into my glass. At first look, the beer is golden sunlight blonde in color with a glow, and a finger's thick of quality head on top. Great retnetion. Dried grapefruit, lemongrass, grains....those aromas tease the nose. slightly rough at times. But in the mouth, the overall flavor melds better. A slight twist of lemon appears first, then lemongrass takes over from there. The lemon has a bit of an astringent edge to it. Surprisingly flavorful for just a 4.2% ABV lager beer. Medium bodied, creamy in the mouth... good pilsner.

Wow. The Bro's straight doing this like a 50/50 bar. Raul ain't pumped, but it's not like he's going to take one bite and throw his Popsicle on the ground for the sun to eat the rest.

Raul drank it and he'd have another; but he won't tap a keg of it for his gramama's birthday.

Peace!

Appearance - Pours a crystal clear golden color with a slight orange tinge. White, half finger head. Sub-par retention. Spotty lacing.

Smell - Aroma consists of grain, with touches of honey, caramel and a floral hop character.

Taste - Moderate notes of grain and honey upfront while hops come across lightly, as floral with a minor grassy bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium in body, with moderate, somewhat lively carbonation. Nice crispness. Goes down easy.

Overall - A fair to good pilsner. Flavors are there, but don't necessarily hit the mark quite where they should. I don't know that I'd buy it again, but I have no problem with drinking this, and on a hot summer day, who knows? Without better options, I'd give this another swing.

Mammoth probably has a stronger presence in my area than many here, so I've tried their beers on more than one occasion as the better alternative or to mix it up some. In most cases I'm pleased, though never wowed.

I feel like the Bros' review of this one is a bit harsh. While the Golden Trout Pilsener isn't by any means phenominal, it's a quietly tasty offering that's easy to take down by the mug on a casual summer night. There's a solid head with retention per usual, smooth mouthfeel with a little brothiness on the tongue it seems and a very mild hop character. I'd like the beer to be more crisp though.

I also get the feeling from reading these other reviews that it's not very good out of the can or bottle. I've only had this one on tap and it's been alright.

843rd Review on BA
Bottle to Pilsner
22 oz

No bottle date

Purchased at Shell Station, Bishop, CA

App- Very clear yellow with a moderate amount of bubble activity from the bottom up. Only about a 1/2” head formed. As it fell a small amount of lines formed.

Smell- A true bit of pilsner was there. That lemony, earthy, dank note. A bit of butter.

Taste- It's light, but not very flavorful. Its a tad run of the mill, but I guess most pilsners are. Has some lemon, wheat, and a bit of flavored water. A little balanced malt not for flavor depth.

Mouth- A light bodied beer with a high carbonation. A little lemon, and malt residual flavor.

Drink- It wasn't too bad and it wasn't too good. I keep trying to like pilsners and lagers and they just fall short for me. I have a few more Mammoth at home and hopefully they are more like the BA 2011 Bluesapooloza.
