Appearance:
Pours a disquieting, dark yellow that makes my bladder uncomfortable. A flock of big bubbles press their loony, misshapen faces against the glass in an attempt to escape a beer that looks like it resulted from a horse with a UTI. No head, no lacing, nothing classy going on here. To make matters worse, an unappetizing, sandy grit has settled at the bottom of the glass
Bouquet:
I hesitantly lowered my nostrils to gather more intel on what awaited my tongue, expecting the dry, sulfide-laden B.O. of Corona Extra. You can imagine my relief, when instead, my olfactory was greeted by the heady scent of honeyed wheat. The sticky sweet honey aroma is layered thick atop an unobtrusive presence of soft wheat bread.
Feel:
A pelting, hailstorm of hyper-aggressive carbonation that swarms and stings on the way down, like you swallowed a handful of hornets. This unwelcome barrage dissipates in mere minutes, but offers no improvement because once those angry bubbles are gone, the lager is instantly flattened like a sad balloon. What remains is a stone-smooth, light bodied ale that lacks vibrance... but at least it doesn’t hurt anymore.
Taste:
Like biting into a crisp, wheat pretzel that’s been exuberantly dipped in clover honey. While practically lip-smacking upfront, the sweetness dulls down to damn-near dreary after just a few minutes of air time.
Overall:
A remarkably capricious lager that goes out of its way to make any enjoyment difficult.

This DelMarVa (+ DC) adventure of mine has morphed into my latest CANQuest (tm) focus! I really had no idea that MaryCANd, especially, was putting out so much beer. 8=O It seems as though every time I feel like I a close, some more beers from that area Pop! up from out of hiding to surprise me. Further, I am back to work so I CANnot keep up the pace that I set during the Christmas/Winter Break. 8=( On top of all of that, even New Beer Sunday is off-limits due to prior CANmitments. 8=( Inna meantime, a shout-out to my local, in-person trader, @tone77 who recently dropped this off for me.
From the CAN: "Fordham & Dominion [-] A Mid-Atlantic Tradition Since 1995"; "This Munich-style Helles Lager is brewed in the tradition of great German Lagers. Munich and Vienna malts provide a honeyed backbone that is contrasted with the clean bitterness of Perle Hops."
This one had me won from the time that I plucked it from the box in which it arrived. First, it came in a Slimline CAN, which was supposed to be the CANming trend, but pint CANs won the day. 8=( SeCANdly, the Crack! of the vent gave me a light spritz, revealing a brimful craft CAN. Next, the slow, gentle C-Line Glug resulted in the formation of two-plus fingers of fizzy, foamy, rocky, light-tan head with modest retention, quickly falling away to wisps. Color was a gorgeous Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity, forcing The Gelt Gang of Midas, Mammon & Croesus to have to get off my couch where they were watching the Penguins at the Montreal CANadiens on TV & come into the kitchen for a taste. Haha! Nose was definitely honey & biscuit malt with a light grassy hoppy undertone. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium, big for a Lager. The taste was like honey drizzled over fresh biscuits at supper after an afternoon of helping my maternal grandfather mow the upper lot! OMFG, this was great! Finish was in that twilight zone between semi-sweet & semi-dry. You CAN have your pick. I don't feel like arguing when I am really enjoying myself. YMMV.

My old neighbor and good friend from The 'Wego gave me a bottle of this beer. It poured a slightly hazy copper with no head and no lace. The scent had faint yeast notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet malt base and some grain finishes. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a decent beer.

Good craft helles is terribly hard to find. This is a pretty good specimen. Nothing "off" with this one. Could use more head and crusty bready goodness. Seems a wee bit dark in color for a helles. But that's just getting picky. I'll take it.

Gypsy Lager pours a copper color, with no head. Grainy and cheap chemically aroma. Flavor starts with a off, chemically flavor, but finishes with a smooth creamy bright and malty flavor: Very sweet. Lighter body, fizzy. Overall, off flavors, but a nice finish, on the sweeter side.

Hazy gold color, barely covering white collar that reduces quickly to edge-only. Good carbonation. Slightly bread aroma. Nice beer/bread taste with slight bitter aftertaste.
