this is quality, one of the best beers we had in here last weekend, pretty simple but also pretty flavorful, i think its well refined, cleanly fermented, and shows some skill. i believe this is one of the ones that makes the rounds at all locations, and i can see why. deep brown color to it, frothy tan head from the tap, looks right on with a little shine to it. nose of dark chocolate and deep roast, pretty robust, just a bit of caramel malt richness to it, not too much, and very little from yeast or hops, a cool dark grain spectrum here, warming coffee notes as well, almost has a milk stout smell to it, but i do not reckon there is actually lactose in this. flavor is about the same, deep roast but the usual late bitterness is countered instead by some sweeter malts, definitely not fermented down to dry, but it works. coffee notes all through this, light tobacco and raisin, not overly complex but has good flow, enough bitterness at the end, and a smooth, almost creamy feeling body. some light roasted bitterness lingers too, and its not so full that it cant be an all evening pint beer. classically styled and very well executed, one of their better common recipes for my money, especially this time of year...

Draft at Boise brewpub. Dark brown, mahogany pour, small skin of head. Aroma is straight up roast grains. Taste, too. Roasty bitterness. Standard porter characteristics.

Growler of Total Disorder Porter, split into mugs.

A: Pours opaque dark brown with caramel tan highlights. A massive khaki head leaves behind a little lace.

S: Smells of coffee, chocolate malt, roast sweetness...caramel as well, and some light hops.

T: Follows the nose initially, and as it warms the coffee flavors really come to the forefront. Finishes with a good, hoppy coffee-grounds bitterness.

MF: Light/medium body. prickly carbonation but relatively smooth.

O: A good porter, relatively balanced and easy drinking.

A: Very dark, almost black. Good amount of carbonation and a tan head make it look like I'm drinking a Coke.

S: Pretty typical porter smell, with toasted chocolate and a bit of smokiness at the forefront.

T: The sweetness is king in this delicious porter. That smokier aspect sticks around and just the right amount carbonation without drawing attention to itself. Surprisingly clean, with nothing really lingering on the palate. A little cream can be tasted after a few sips.

M: Surprisingly light and crisp for a porter. A bit too light for my tastes.

D: A rather good flavor and a clean finish make this highly drinkable. It's probably my favorite beer in C.B. and Potts' collection, so a few would not be out of the question.

So I am NOT a fan of CHAIN beer ike the RAM and Rock Bottom but I actually liked this Porter. I have visited Boise, Tacoma, Puyallup and Seattle.Poured a nice deep brown color with a good tannish head.Tasted a caramel and the some chocolate hints. Lots of roasted malts here. Mouthfeel is nice and toasty, easy drinking and pretty good.

As with all beers at the Boise Ram, it is served in an oversized shaker, guessing its 18 oz or so. The beer is dark brown with a skim of beige foam.

The beer smells of brown sugar, lightly roasted malts and raisins.

The beer tastes of molasses, whole grain bread and a bit of wood smoke.
As I work through the beer some dark fruit emerges.

The beer was served to cold, but as it warmed, the flavors jelled.

The mouth is bordering on thickish and helps make the beer an easy drinker.

For a porter, this is almost bland. It's not bad, it has a decent flavor, but it's not a very strong flavor.

In appearance, it's dark, but not as opaque as I would expect. Little or no head, little or no carbonation.

Smells slightly smokey, slightly caramelly, but not very strong. Taste follows the smell to some extent, both smokey and caramelly, and also not very strong. Again, tastes good, but not as powerful as I expect from a porter.

Feels light and thin. Again, not what I expect from a porter.

Now, even though I wrote "not what I expect" for a lot of things, I find this pretty drinkable, especially for a porter. Normally, when I think of porter, I think of one or two in a night. I could make a session out of this one.

I got this at the Ram Restaurant & Brewery in Kent, WA.

I've had this porter many times. It varys a little from keg to keg, but overall a very good porter.

A: Very dark with a slight bit of garnet showing through against the light. Thick brown head which left nice lacing as it went down.

S: Malty aromas including chocolate and a little anise. Spicey hops in the back.

T: Big malt flavors take the forefront. The sweetness is nicely blended with a small amount of bitterness. Roasted flavors with chocolate and anise, finishing with a light amount of hops. Nice balance overall.

M: This is a thicker beer but not overly heavy. Well carbonated and finishes dry.

D: This beer goes down way to easy for me. The flavors are blended well enough to make this very easy to drink.

A- extremely dark brown brew with mahogany hues, served with practically no head

S- chocolate, caramel, roasted malts, cream

T- malty with little hop presence, chocolate, toasted caramel, sweet chocolate as after

M- medium body with a smooth, filmy after, way too much carbonation, soda like in that respect

D- strong and simple flavors, nothing to hunt down, unless you are at the Ram and want dark beer
